Collision Mitigation On New Mondeo 2015

Featured Replies

Hi.

I have just ordered a brand new Ford Mondeo Estate Titanium X-Pack, with the ACC option (Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Mitigation). I am trying to work out what Collision Mitigation actually is.

- Does it detect both pedestrians and vehicles ?

- Does it warn of a collision at all speeds ?

- Does it perform active braking ?

- Does it operate even with ACC is not operational ?

- Does it effectively supercede Active City Stop (ACS) ? i.e. does it do everything that ACS does, and more?

I have NOT selected the ACS feature and still have a few days to change my order. If I am losing something by not have ACS then please let me know so I can decide whether to add it.

Thankyou all

Best ask the dealer

They are two separate systems.

Active city stop operates at speeds up to 20 or 30 mph (depending on the version fitted). This is when the car will come to a complete stop to try and prevent you rear ending someone at low speeds.

Collision mitigation operates at speeds above active city stop. It uses radar to monitor the car in front at high speeds, if the gap starts closing and you don't react it will warn you, then it will start applying the brakes automatically. (but not attempt to stop).

If collision mitigation causes your speed to drop below 20 or 30mph (again depending on the version), then active city stop takes over (where fitted) and it will attempt to completely stop the vehicle to prevent a collision.

According to the Ford website it is 40km/h for ACS, so the switchover is actually 25 mph for the Mondeo.

Unfortunately though its not designed for pedestrian safety. So you cant drive at your mate so he bricks himself, and tell him "the car wanted to do it and it was going to stop.... honest" :P
