Hi, Please help me if possible.

I have an 56 Mk3 Mondeo 2 Litre Automatic.

Started engine today then a big bang!

Restarted engine and now revving at just over 4000 rpm.

So car is now stuck on driveway.

Any ideas please?

Sounds like servo pipe broke letting in excess air in inlet manifold making it rev up, or another pipe somewhere, go to brake reservoir and follow the black plastic pipe from brake servo to manifold checking for split/broke pipe.

Under vacuum., what you may have heard was servo relieving vacuum quickly, may not be that but thats thr first I would check.

I wouldn't drive an auto stuck at 4000 revs, actually I wouldn't drive a manual stuck at those revs and my local garage is half a mile away

Got a RAC man out and the inlet manifold has sheared (:

RAC man says he has never seen that before (: !!!!!

Not sure it's worth repairing a 9 year old Mondeo using brand new Ford Parts...

I would just go for used parts. to be honest, you could buy a donor car cheap enough and just transplant what you want from it.

even buying a whole second car would be cheaper than ford parts...

Final update. Found a very good mobile mechanic who..

1) Removed Inlet Manifold

2) Obtain a second hand manifold and NEW inlet gaskets

3) Refitted second hand manifold

This all costs £185 (include a £20 tip).

So not too painful. Just hope the repair lasts a couple of years..
