Fenners
Hi all, May remember a while ago I was asking about number plates and transferring well I've now got one on a V778 retention document. Can I transfer this online?? I'm really struggling how to go about this, Thanks
mills705
Yes- there is a cert number on the retnetion doc and there is a v5c number also. Go onto the DVLA website and process it then hey presto its done and new v5 is sent out

StornowayBlue
Also at what point can I get my plates made up? Thanks Officially, you cant get plates until you display the new V5 to the shop - but you can buy show-plates online, eg eBay, that are fine. mills705
If you do it online I believe shoeing the certificate, v5 nd confirmation email would allow plates to be done
Willy
Do you still need the V948 form to get your plates made

Fenners
I've now transferd the plate whoop! What about my old plates do I just keep them and put back on the car before selling it? Also are the plates still ok to use until I get the new v5 through the post to get my new ones made? Thanks all
mills705
Just store them until they are needed again- as you will get that number back when you do the retention again. Yes there fine to use, keep ahold of the email incase of any issues

winemart2
Beats me why anyone would want to change plates. Who gives a toss if others can tell what year the car is? "The Major", next door, has private plates, he's driving around in a 10 year old Lexus (bought last year), why bother? I must be difficult to impress. MONDEO TXS 2.2
Private plates can be seen as a mod' - so that's probably why some people choose to personalise their car in that way
