2011 Titx Hatch Curtain Airbag Rusted And Perished

So, new here so forgive me if this is a repeat post or I break any rules.

I have a 2011 Titanium X Hatch. I have recently discovered water in my o/s/r footwell and boot. After stripping out the boot and seats and putting he car on water test whilst sitting in it I found its coming in through the seal that houses the light electrics to the boot. However I also found that the water leaks down the o/s curtain airbag. It's obviously been doing it for a while as its rusted it and perished the bag.

Due to the fact I have two small children I have decided not to drive the car until getting this airbag replaced. Obviously at a large cost. I just wanted to know if anyone else has come across this at all and maybe if anyone knows for Ford themselves are aware of this fault that's quite clearly dangerous. I've owned the vehicle since May 2015 and it was owned by a recruitment agency before me from new. It's always been serviced/repaired at a ford main dealer and it's never had any roof bars or involved in any accident.

If anyone knows or anything I would appreciate the advice, also if anyone knows how to let ford themselves know. Once back at home I will attempt to attach some pictures to this post to show my findings. I am currently on my phone.

This is what i mean by rusted out. It was dripping down the bag and onto this, running down it and dripping of the end. If you look hard enough you can see a droplet on the end.

Welcome along, and wow! Though I know the water runs off my car when I open the boot, I have never seen an airbag in such poor condition!

Your best bet, is to disconnect the battery for at least an hour, then, replace the airbag. I would suggest having a look at breakeryard.com, you can get a "used" (off a breaking vehicle - not deployed!) for about £150. then you can just replace it

Ye, I was going to get a new one. Carrying two children, don't really want to risk it. Have been assured by a ford tech that it's just surface rust and the bag is fine. But I'd rather not risk it. Thankfully working for a ford garage I have the use of a full workshop and advice of ford techs at my disposal.

Lucky you! I would agree with you entirely though. Carrying kids is like carrying bombs. The one time you let your guard down is the one time you know your going to regret it.
