So that's it I've managed to kerb every single alloy!

All jokes aside, how annoying is this! Need to get a job lot repair on them all. Shows up horribly on the black allots.

How have you actually mnaged to do all of them?

Where abouts are you? Cant see as on mobile as i know of a company that does them fairly cheap, they repaired my car after it was in a crash so ive had some dealing with them.

Honestly no idea mate. First car so still new to driving. Its my car park in my work, its a mufti story thing and the kerbs are ridiculous. Im based in Edinburgh pal.

Also any idea about damage to the tires from the kerb, are they pretty durable or if i get any little nick should i change them?

Not being funny but maybe take the corners at a wider angle?  If you already know it's a tight car park I don't see how you can do it more than once in the same place in a few months!

I kerbed one of mine on a high kerb over a year ago now.  Really want it fixed but it costs too much.

Okay, sorry about the crap pic but, the tire is damaged there, its around 2 inches in length and probably less than a cm deep, i didnt pull the rubber part off but does this look risky? Could i glue it down or should I get a new tire?

That tyre doesn't look roadworthy to me.

+1

I'd be very wary of driving on that; as costly as replacement may be it's not worth the risk.

Pretty bad right..

Yeah that's ruined.  Judging by that you should probably slow down as well as taking a wider angle!!

New tire plus fitting costing me £90, that's doable. And I will certainly be taking more care........

Rims will get done 2 at a time as they are costly. Might wait for a bit too.

So went to a tire specialist at lunch there, he said it was okay and if I wanted it to look like normal I should just super glue it down.

So I did that and it looks fine! Going to get the alloys sorted very soon lolimage1.JPG

Glad your tyre is okay. Maybe wait until you stop driving into things before you think about giving those wheels a refurb!!!

ScotWheels do a mobile service to your door and will do all 4 at the same time. I had mine done on my focus. If you have Facebook have a look  https://www.facebook.com/scotwheels/  or their website  http://www.scotwheels.biz  they're based in Perth but will come down with a van and do it all at your door.

(btw I have nothing to do with them, just one of his satisfied customers)

He said the tyre is fine?! I wouldn't risk it I thought any damage to the wall of a tyre is just asking for trouble.

He said it was just cosmetic as it was on the "kerbing wall" of the tire and that it was fine....

I don't really know what to do, tire man said it was fine. you lot saying its not....

It's called a sidewall for most of us, though I guess you can call it a kerbing wall!

Did you look under the tear?  If it's literally just nipped the rubber and there aren't any metal or cords showing under there then it should be ok just to glue back down.

Also, with black alloys, couldn't you just colour in the kerb mark with a black sharpie or something?  Would look better than alloy grinning through underneath!

Yeah i lifted the bit of rubber up and its just rubber underneath, no wires or anything showing, probably about 3.5mm deep, really nothing.

And lol I've tried that but when you jetwash the rimes boom its comes off!

I had the same thing as you, but mine was a deeper cut, not showing any wires or anything but it was letting air out very slowly but surely. I've also noticed these cars (Zetec S' and St's) tend to attract a lot attention from the Police, so I would get it replaced just in case. Peace of mind as well.

I got mine fitted a new Continental for £104, the guy was mobile to so he done it at my house whilst I was at work.

Might do it in the future. For now, its completely not noticeable and its glued down with gorilla glue, super strong stuff.

I had a sidewall blowout when I was 17 in my 750cc Fiat Panda. Thankfully I was only doing about 25-30mph at the time but it was still pretty scary and not something I'd like to repeat! I never take any chances when it comes to the things which keep me safe in a car. I only buy good quality tyres and change them well before they reach the legal minimum tread.

As long as you can't see any wires/cords under the tear then the sidewall is OK.  Almost all of our cars have suffered similar damage over the years (my Mother is a serial kerb scraper!) and never had a blow out.  Not to say it couldn't happen though, so if you are concerned then replace it to be safe.  Otherwise, leave it on and just take care.

I think this thread bit back at me yesterday. Was with other half and my two dogs tooting along to go delemere forest next thing i feel my steering pull to one side, thought that was strange - no noise nothing. I was still able to gain full on power. Comes again pulls to one side. So pulled over and had a look right in middle of a busy road - tyre blown completely. Luckily there was a layby about 50 yards pull in and who be knows my alloy locking key has gone missing.

Stuck in middle of no where and small amount of signal in and out. Managed to get my mom to come see if her key worked nope called rac and they came luckily pretty fast and managed to get the wheel off for me. £6 for the tool but a lot cheaper than a tow lol.

So a simple day out went from been soaked, my dogs not been able to have a day out £6 for rac £24 for ford to order me a new bolt and whatever for a tyre. The joys of a car.

Was it the damaged tyre that blew?
