Basic Cambelt Change Guide - Mk2.5 Focus 1.6 TDCi

Featured Replies

All sorted. All fitted timed and tensioned and started first turn and sounds just the same as it did before….

I’m happy….5 hours with plenty of coffee breaks.

  • There is a decent Youtube guide done by Dayco themselves showing the belt change on a CMax with the same engine, that ones worth a watch if you can find it, I only found it while looking for something

  • Sorry, missed the latest replies somehow! Flywheel locking pin needs to be about 3 inches long I guess, will try to remember to measure the proper one tomorrow though. Tensioning makes sense

Is it essential to remove the crankshaft pulley to replace the belt? Or is this required to remove the bottom cover to allow belt removal and replacement?

This.  The lower cover can't be removed with the pulley in place.

When I did mine , when reassembling , I sawed the cover in half so that in future if necessary I could remove the bit covering the pulleys / tensioner for inspection if needed without removing crank pulley. Never needed to before sold car but just in case.

There appears to be big difference in torque settings from this guide and the youtube video as below. Can anyone confirm the definitive settings for a 2012 Focus 1.6 tdci?

Video settings:

Torque settings : Crank pulley = Stage 1 - 35NM Stage 2 - 190 Degrees

Tensioner & Idler pulley = 30NM

37NM Engine mount (horizontal bolts)

55NM Engine mount (vertical bolts) = 48NM

Hi, currently doing this job and looking for advice.

I had pinned the crank pulley and camshaft pulley before taking the time belt off, but not the fuel pump pulley.

My fuel pump pulley doesn't have the tab sticking out the side of it to align to the pin hole, it looks like there is a pin hole within the fuel pump pulley and a hole in the crank case which it might align to, but it's about 90 degrees out.  Fuel pump pulley may have rotated as I removed the timing belt....

What do I doooo?  TIA
