  2. but you still need to check the fan motor spins freely and is not stiff. otherwise you will have a problem again. if the fuse has blown and on another occasion the resistor pack blew (most likely the thermal fuse within it) it does suggest there is a problem tt you have not got t the bottom of. My 2001 focus had a stiff motor which I found after two resistor packs (thermal fuses within them) blowing. there was water in the bottom of the fan motor causing bearing to seize. (and I did also find where the water was coming from to stop that happening again)

  4. I won a set of these off Ebay and got an absolute bargain! They're immaculate, not a mark on them. I fitted them in the dark. I finished work late and was to excited not too. Couple of powerful torches helped me out though. I took a couple of pics. However they're not the best. You know what its like trying to take pictures of lights. Both new led lights fitted with the silver indicator bulb. This makes a massive difference to the back end. Looks more modern. Pictures dont do justice and highly recommend doing this little upgrade. Massive thanks Lenny, This is easy to follow and appreciate the guide. Left normal and right LED Left normal and right LED. Side view. Both LEDs

  5. Picked up the multimeter. For £8 actually haha. However I didn't use it. Looked at the auxiliary fuse box and the fuse was blown. Changed it and it works

  7. Hi all, I am considering installing a 5000k hid dipped beam kit, and possibly a foglight kit, but I believe they can put pressure on the wiring and fry my fuses or fuse box. Any thoughts on the matter would be a great help also any recomended (not too expensive) brands? Cheers

  8. Hi guys, So my car (bright white) was parked and someone managed to reverse into it 😫 Long story short, they've accepted liability and thankfully they're insured so I'll be claiming on theirinsurance. However, I want a proper job done. Can anyone vouch / recommended a legitimate Bodywork company located around the Birmingham area? I'm still yet to see which company the insurance want to go through. If the reviews are average or worse then that, I won't be using them.

  9. hello, i've have my car for arround 3 weeks now and i've decided that i would try and enable auto locking so i bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122269834510?euid=66057eeea35e4967802ff7eb5d2d6899&bu=43453693169&cp=1&sojTags=bu=bu the drivers that came on a disk with the cable would not install so i downloaded them directly from http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx the laptop i use is running on windows 8 when i try and connect to the car using foCCus or ELMConfig ... nothing ive contacted the seller from ebay ... nothing ... can anyone whos used this kind of setup before offer me any help before it all goes in the bin ... thanks ....

  11. Indeed, all my other bench vices are, and have not had anything fail on them I was wrongly lured by this one's ability to swivel and rotate in three planes and yet be portable. This is the second time something has broken on it. The main vice screw sheared, under very little tension. Which I replaced with an M16 high tensile steel bolt for now

  18. As Dez says but i have mine set just slightly off windscreen rather than the double option setting so it keeps more air going to the screen. The air con helps demist the screen quicker, thats why it comes on each time the heater is switched on when the dial is set fully to windscreen.

  20. Yup battery is turned the right way :-) Anyway, yesterday I picked up the remote I ordered at the locksmith and it worked fine after pogramming it in the car by turning the ignition to slot II four times as previously described. In order to get it to work for the ignition as well I needed to cut out a small glass-rod (some ID-chip-thingie) from the old remote and put it in a dedicated space in the new remote. It wasn't hard at all. Thanks for all the tips! Now finally I have a working remote and ignition key! And for USD 50:- from the locksmith instead of 300:- from Ford! Horray! :-D

  22. That maybe so, but the MOT is a little less black and white.... "Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given. Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch" https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518634/mot-inspection-manual-for-class-3-4-5-and-7-vehicles.pdf and is nicely summarised in this article.... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/35636/watchdog-unfair-mot-failures the whole thing is as clear as mud but I suspect the spirit of the law is as Autoexpress depicts. Reflector HIDs = Bad, Projector HIDs with correct pattern = Fine, Projected HIDs on cars after 2010 = Should have working levellers and washers. Interestingly my local garage was telling me that there isn't any guidelines at all of what constitutes as "working" he reckons you could tape up some silicone hose to the outside of the car with a squeezy bottle in the car and it would constitute as a washer system and they cant test for the levellers properly either.

  27. the gear change. if I recall correctly there are two cables (like thick bicycle brake cables) that go from gear lever to gearbox. I can't remember if these have adjusters on to set them up properly when new. I am wondering if the cable needs adjusting slightly so that when you put the gear lever into 2nd it pulls the lever on the gearbox a little further. I once had a Capri that kept popping out of 2nd but only on the overrun like if going down steep hill with foot off throttle. Gearbox was also noisy. That definitely was a gearbox fault, but on that type of gearbox the gear lever went into the gearbox with nothing in between so there was not really anything else that could be wrong. If I tried to hold the lever in 2nd gear position it felt like something hitting it to knock it forward with quite a jerk.

  29. It's not replica . I've spoken to Ford this morning. They said for Bodywork repairs, they use an independent garage that are Ford approved. They're called PJ Rhodes. Anyone heard of them? They're Birmingham based.

  38. The cam pulleys are metal not plastic. Both cams and crank are floating so you need to loosen them off to achieve perfect timing but also you'll need to replace the bolts - which should be in the kit. But as I mentioned above (I think) one of the kits never does everytime I buy one, despite them being same manufacturer!

  39. As a side note it was about -8c last night and I do get ice inside my car
    1 point
  40. Would that affect just the blower? The car has been started now and I drove to work fine. Is there any way I can test that by myself?

  41. the washers and levellers "law" in England Scotland and wales isn't strictly speaking true. since there are cars out there with factory xenon's and no levellers and washers it would be a bit harsh to make them illegal. the MOT guide lines state that IF the car has levellers and washers then they must be working, it doesn't say they must have them. The biggest problem is those stupid reflector kits which will fail an MOT and blind the buggery out of other cars. But my retro fitted morimoto mini H1s with 4300k bulbs have a fantastic beam pattern, they look OEM and the beam is sport on, no problems yes. I suspect the wiring fails are more to do with 55w HIDs, the current draw on those are pretty high as is the heat they generate. 35w HIDs shouldn't cause you any bother and if you do it right, then you should only use the headlight harness to power a relay and not the blubs, the blubs get powered directly from the battery with a separate inline fuse and controlled via the relay. basically, if someone has melted a harness or fuse box, they did it wrong.

  42. When I had my Focus bumper scuffed when a knob pulled out in front of me and I stopped yet he still caught my bumper. Through the insurance mine went to Advance Accident repair which is local to me but I believe it is also part of GK Ford as in their accident repair business. There is certainly some link to GK Ford. So insist it goes to a Ford body shop or at least a Ford approved body shop that uses genuine parts.

  43. +1 for the main dealers. Insurance company will try use a local cheap garage. However you have the right to refuse and say you want it doing to a high professional finish and want it doing where it was born.

  44. I don't know how the laws differ in Ireland, but in the UK including NI, HID conversion kits are illegal without washers, and auto leveling, and will effectively render your insurance policy void. There are plenty of threads about explaining this :) This is a very detailed and useful thread:

  45. Yup, I tried programming my current remote in the car (serveral times) but the current remote seems to be dead, since nothing happens when I press any buttons still. Yes, I have changed batteries twice but to no avail. But I ordered a new remote yesterday so hopefully that will work. I will return when I get it in a few days and report if it works! Thanks for the information on WD40/white lithium grease as well. Thanks for now and Happy New Year guys! :-)

  47. Thank you for your advice fellows! Ok, so here is an update: Today it was warmer outside -5 C (23 F), so I went out to the car and tried to unlock the doors and today it worked without problems in both doors! (spare key worked only for locking though) So undeniably it appears to have something to do with the temperature. I drove directly to a Ford service shop and talked to a mechanic. They looked at my keys and said they look very worn and told me that in cold weather the locks are more sensitive to worn keys. To change a key with remote would cost over about USD 350 which is more than I can afford! They said with a new remote I'm likely to get into the car even if it is cold because it goes directly to the "lock-motor" (or whatever it is called in English). I went to a common locksmith and they told me that they can copy the remote to work with my car for only USD 50. Could that really be true, or is that unlikely to work in practice for some reason?

  49. In 2 years of no use it could've got damp inside and broken tbh. Bit of a long shot but do you know anyone else with a Mk7 Fiesta that could borrow their radio to test? Also have you definitely pressed the on button? It's the volume knob on them iirc.
