  5. We bought a couple of them for our boys last Christmas, think they got fed up with them after a couple of weeks! They've lost the remotes now! I stuck one of the bulbs in the police sign I spoke about the other day, looks quite good with the colours changing

  10. Don't know how true this is but here's a comment from Ford re BP Ultimate - "Dr Wolfgang Schneider, a key development director at Ford of Europe, feels the introduction of the fuel is a big step forward for diesels. “We’ve welcomed BP Ultimate diesel. As the first performance fuel specifically developed to meet the needs of diesel engined vehicles, we can see clearly how it contributes to lower emissions of regulated pollutants, improved cold starting, lower noise, improved economy and performance and improved protection of the engine. This, we’ve found, allows for cleaner, more efficient vehicle operation and helps protect diesel engines for longer life.”"

  11. Using higher spec diesel is good for something like the mk3.5 Focus ST tdci but tbh not much benefit on an engine optimised for standard fuel. I'd say as Lenny did, blank the EGR and then have a Terraclean service done. Sent from my SM-G930F

  12. I believe they are 382's (also known as BA15S or P21W) Best ones are the type with cree bulbs on the end and led's around the sides to utilise the lens reflectors. Sent from my SM-G930F

  14. Something that should be mentioned is that Diesels run lean. Very lean at idle. With a normal petrol engine, the stoichiometric mix means a very high water content in the exhaust gas. Something like 44 parts Nitrogen, 8 parts CO2 and 6 parts water vapour, by volume, for full combustion. The Ecoboost petrol engine can run lean, though I have no idea if and when this option is used. Petrol exhausts corrode rapidly from the inside, due to this water, made worse by any NOx, which can form nitric acid. This will a big problem on short journeys where the exhaust stays cool. Diesel exhausts can last much longer, with minimal internal corrosion, as there is usually a period of lean running (idle or low power) to flush out the water before switching off. Water in the oil can be a problem for petrol engines used for short runs, for the same reason. I would say that without a DPF there is not much in it. If buying secondhand, the initial capital cost is not so much higher, and Diesels on short runs still remain more frugal on fuel than petrol on the same short runs. Long oil warm up time, and long cabin warm up time (!) are the main disadvantages of Diesel that I can think of, in this case. Some Diesels have electric heaters in the coolant system to cure this. As the warmed coolant also goes to the "oil cooler", which also works as an oil warmer from cold, the oil will benefit too. It is the DPF that ruins Diesel for many people. DPFs mean more CO2 for the whole planet in exchange for a tiny reduction in one specific type of possible pollutant in crowed, congested cities. But then the rule makers live in cities!

  17. One point to bear in mind is that, due to the slow warm-up, diesels take a proportionately bigger mpg hit than petrol on short journeys.

  18. Apart from any technical reasons, short trips tends to equal lower mileage, and for the increased price of a diesel, you'll never reap the financial benefits of the better economy.

  19. It's not as daunting as it looks...honest lol Pop off your rear bumper, and mark out where you want the sensors. There might even be marks there already! Drill through and clean up the holes then reattach the bumper. There should be a rubber grommet under the back end somewhere - feed through the wires for the sensors through the bumper holes then through the grommet For the control box you need access to the rear lights. Tap into the reverse light wire (positive) and also the nearest earth point. Plug in the wires to the box and make sure that the sensors are all properly inserted and yer done!

  23. I've yet to get the typical rust on my Mk1, everyone else seem get it, yet mine won't Molly is a very vibrant 5 year old, she too is a rescue, from Cat's Protection. although unlike Brandy she wasn't a abused. Her previous owner lost his job and consequently his house and then his new landlord wouldn't allow pets, so he gave her up for adoption. I got Brandy to drink water from a syringe, she drank around 300ml, 10ml at a time. Following that, I wondered whether she might eat something if I liquidised it first, and fed it to her in the same manner. So I made her a chicken wing and lamb heart smoothie. She ate the first syringe full, started on the second but was reluctant to have any more. Since she had a drink her eyes look brighter I've just carried her upstairs to my office, along with a fresh hot water bottle, her woolly fleece and one of her plush toy dogs, she's partially under my desk resting her head on my right foot

  27. Made it more aerodynamic apparently. It doesn't look as bad in some angles, but it's looking a bit melted there, lol. Perhaps it's better in the metal?

  40. my mate was after a Hyundai coupe but it was a special edition thing (not many around) he asked a dealer to keep a look out at some of their other dealers and if one was available in the near future they would tell him see if he was interested. like guzz said above always worth putting an autotrader search up of the spec you want and see if one comes available some time.

  42. Learning to know when it is doing a Regen and when it is likely to do one will help if you know it's happening and drive it accordingly to complete the Regen. Otherwise your wasting fuel as it injects more fuel amongst other things to help raise the exhaust temps. If you drive it properly and regular oil changes and keep an eye on it, it shouldn't be too bad. Most of the horror stories are from people who don't do enough miles to justify the diesel and don't look after the DPF as they are not clued up on it. Imaging it's like a computer, if you just use it and don't look after it, eventually it will slow right down and stop working hanging etc. Look after it and service it etc and it should be more reliable. The other issue with DPF problems is you don't know how it has been treated by previous owners so may be almost to the point of requiring replacement before you even owned it. 43. You are very welcome :) The car its self is a lovely car and I was devastated when mine went pop. Partly my own fault and lack of knowledge in all honesty, which is why I try and pass on what I have learned from other people here.

  45. this is exactly the kind of thing that annoys me on modern cars, more to go wrong. do we need this type of refuelling system? especially not on petrol cars. you could not accidentally put diesel nozzle in unleaded petrol car anyway as the diesel nozzle is too wide.

  46. i doubt the previous owner realized you need a chip in the key to start the engine you do need the master if you ever do any work on the ignition. pop into fords and ask them about a replacement.

  47. I did not even know such things existed. It is such an obviously stupid and wasteful idea that I really did not believe anyone could sell them! I have learnt something there. The only way to use electricity to provide general space heating is with heat pumps. That way you get back some of the heat lost in the electricity generation and transmission process. But it does not come cheap as a capital investment. The reason gas is 3 to 4 times cheaper than electricity, is that about 70% of the heat in the gas is wasted when used to generate electricity, only 25% to 30% of the energy in the gas gets to the user. About the same as with petrol engine cars, only about 30% of the energy in the fuel gets to the wheels. The Diesel cycle is slightly better (say 5 to 10% better), but at a cost that is much talked about! The 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics are hard and unforgiving, impossible to defeat, and difficult to get around!

  48. the halfords oil is fine at £12 for 4ltrs at the mo so get stocked up, ford oil is always fully synthetic castrol used to be A1 but they changed it to A5 about a yr ago, it can be picked up around £25-£30 for 4ltrs so you`ll be safe useing any of them 2
