In my view they should curb drinking and remove cheap booze from sale. Most of my work involves picking up the pieces due to drink induced stupidity. Hospital A&E departments are overrun most nights with drunks and their resultant injuries. Smokers pay 82% tax on every pack they buy of which most goes directly to the NHS to fund cancer treatments (all treatments not just smoking related cancers) so if they banned smoking altogether then cancer treatments in the UK would be unfundable. 150,000 hospital admissions and 15-22,000 deaths nationally are associated with alcohol each year The cost to the NHS of treating the chronic and acute effects of alcohol misuse is up to £1.7 billion per year (12% of all NHS spend) Smokers give money to the NHS, drinkers cost the NHS. So who are the resource drains here?4 points

Tar and nicotine info no longer listed, plain grey packs and large prominent anti-smoking messages / pictures. Brand name is small and buried at the lower part of the pack. Making the packs bland is not going to stop smokers, I guess they are trying to de-glamourise the idea of smoking for kids but they smoke the cigarette not the wrapping.3 points

I don't like that today has been a total pain in the derriere. Dog had to go to vets again after getting his bloodwork results back and needing a chest x-ray, suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy and refusing to eat and being extremely exercise intolerant. £550 and counting. Coming back from the vets to find a flooded bathroom where grey water has backed up from the drain ruining a new hall carpet and bathroom floor, so waited 4 hours for an emergency plumber. Still needing to keep the other 2 dogs occupied while having to carry the poorly one into the yard for ablutions is wearing me out. I picked a hell of a week to take leave. TBH, lucky i did or it would have been chaos.2 points

I agree with @Jethro_Tull the company offering the warranty would use any excuse to get out of a claim, I think at best the hinges on the bonnet would be covered but not a lot else. I once had a golf, lovely little car but it looked like a sheep in wolfs clothing it was all show and no go. I did a lot to the looks of the car but left the engine completely standard and changed the back box for something better looking but as quiet as OEM. I upgraded the bulbs to Night Breakers and had every intention of upgrading to an HID kit when I had done enough research into them (first time I was going to try it), anyway coil pack caught fire and torched most of the electrics and bubbled the bonnet. Fire brigade were really quick and caught it before it took hold. VW tried to void my claim because "my bulbs had put unnecessary strain on the wiring looms". If I wasn't so angry I'd have laughed! There was a few choice words uttered and a suggestion that perhaps the wrench monkeys might like to come and explain how that could possibly have any bearing on a coil pack. They declined and paid out instead, but goes to show they will try anything! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

Some time ago Mrs Tull was out in my car, a Kia at the time. People kept flashing her and she couldn't figure out why. Eventually she realised the car was on fire.2 points

Problem is, a remap makes more power. More power has an affect on engine, transmission, steering, brakes, suspension. In most cases the effect will be negligible at most, but it'll be sufficient for then to bin any claim. However, unless the engine blows up they're unlikely to scan the ECU for records of the devices that have been plugged into them (they do store that data) so you're probably on safe ground. Probably, not definitely. Conversely, to not tell them of you made a claim would be fraudulent, and as these extended warranties are technically Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Policies, underwritten by one of three or four companies, you'd struggle to get insurance of any kind ever again. The risk is slim. I'd risk it myself, but id then probably punch myself in the face if the engine suffered a major failure. One thing to consider. Any service updates involving the ECU will have them overwriting your map.2 points

I've heard that it could be caused by the wiper mechanism rubbing through the copper wire that goes between the screen and body2 points

I got them at a reasonable price on sale so I can't complain :p Also, I'm always telling people that they need the limiter and they say they've not had any problems without. My car has 17s from the factory so has a limiter but surely ford wouldn't just fit it for no reason?2 points

Pmsl! That is just awesome, I never even thought lol I use the iPad for YouTube, Facebook and Tapatalk because it seems to perform a little better than the android tablets I have tried. My phones have always been Samsung and before that it was Blackberry and before even that it was the trusty Nokia. I've never owned an iPhone, promise [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

I've worked in Palliative care during my career so I know what you mean. However we all have the 'it won't happen to me' attitude, myself included. I'm thankful I have brittle asthma, if I even tried to smoke I'd end up in the back of an ambulance quicker than I could exhale. I do think people forget that smoking is an addiction and isn't something that you can just stop on a whim (for most people anyway) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

If you're lowering it by that much I would. As I said, Ford probably fit them for when there is a bit of weight in the car, so it sits lower, essentially the same circumstance as you.1 point

I agree rears r only for back fill but they can make a dif if upgraded right. Though as ive found out even though it says sony in the headunit it isnt really a sony.. ford have agreement with them for branding but dont confuse it for it bring a premium headunit.. my sony dab in my mk2.5 says sony but its made by ford, and like the speakers its built to a small budget..1 point

I've already done the software update . If I do decide to amp the system up, I've got an old-school Denon DCA 800 sitting here that I could use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That's what I'm hoping to do. My car was a Ford Direct vehicle, and unfortunately the only option missing was the Premium Sound system. The sound from my old Tit X was much better in standard form, mainly due to the fact the speakers were polymer rather than paper. Trust me the difference is quite noticeable. Toying with the idea of doing the rears now, though they are really only fitted to supplement the fronts; otherwise known as rear fill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

There is also an earth strap under the cabin light cover above your rear view mirror. You will have to pull the whole light asy. out to get at it ( just pulls down I think) same as by your window wiper a big copper strip located with a nut. This is the earth end of your screen circuit.Sometimes this gets a bad contact. It you are getting voltage on the straps by the wipers then it may be this. May not be this but worth a look .I found this out when I had my windscreen replaced. As mine is a 2007 and yours a 2009 I would think it is the same.1 point

When the map killed my engine, it was taken into ford for a diagnostics but they obviously said if the car was found to be modified then I'd have to pay for all the work hence told them to leave it. I then fitted a new engine and took it back to ford for a PCM update to remove the map. Because my car was due an update anyway, the first that that happened when they plugged it in was it was automatically updated, the could not touch anything until it had updated and they said there was no trace of a remap. If it's a risk you want to take, go for it If you're gonna moan if it goes wrong and they won't fix it then leave it. Also, who is the extended warranty with? As companies such as warrantywise have an exceptions list as long as the car itself.1 point

My only concern is would it not be to much green lol? Well my friend has a chrome heat shield(his dipstick broke so he had to buy new dipstick tube and shield) and it looks really nice and doesn't look as tacky/cheap as I thought it would. But I suppose with green hoses it would look rather chavy, so I may look at getting a standard one OR if I can buy a stainless steel manifold I'll leave the heatshield off and wrap the exhaust1 point

Possibly so when there is quite a bit of weight in the car (so sits lower) you don't get clearance issues?1 point

I'm a non smoker but my missus is a smoker (I buy her cigs btw) As for the packets I prefer them. The labeling is better I think and I don't make mistakes by getting the wrong pack (my memory is krap too often) because the brand and type is clearly visible.1 point

If you start the car the current should increase to over 12v.. Don't forget that leds are current sensative, Pos must go to Pos and Neg to Neg.1 point

if it was that copper cable that gets caught on the wiper mechanism wouldn't that mean only half of screen does not work? These screens usually have two circuits , one for left and one for right side. I do not know about focus specifically.1 point

I know you say the packs are plain now but what exactly is on the boxes? Are they just blank boxes now or do they still have the manufacturers details on them? Out of interest, why would plain packs make you want to invest in a case? Surely the days of smoking being a status symbol are long gone and any one brand is no different than another. Is Regal more working class than L&B? I'm not being smart asking the question, I'm genuinely interested in what difference the plain packs make to the end user. It's very unlikely that someone would flash you because of your running lights unless you are driving at night with JUST them on. In this case they can be dazzling. But they can be easily disabled using Forscan.1 point

I ended up putting silicone grease around the edges of my display trim and it solved the problem for me. If that doesn't work then remove it, apply foam tape and re seat it. Rattles in the back are a nightmare in the three door because removing the rear quarter trim is a pain. I bit the bullet and removed both, filled them with sound proof foam and taped all the wiring down. It's worth taking the A pillar trim off to have a look as it's really easy to do. It clips in at the top and is then hooked into the dash at the bottom. Get in there and tape the wiring loom down is my advice.1 point

If it was me, I'd have changed the oil, seeing as the timing belt is wet (in the oil) you MUST use the correct oil and absolutely never use an oil flush. I know because my engineering background and I also asked ford dealership a day ago about the flush. Their response was to never use a flush for the belt's sake by the way, if you look at vospers dealership web site for parts, you actually get service parts much cheaper than motor factors! Better to use ford branded stuff cheaper. The oil is Castrol rebranded to ford labelling too. Plugs will be good until 37.5k miles too, look in your service book1 point

I believe they're usually wired with the sidelights or DRLs. You can then change the colours via the remote, and whatever colour they were on when last powered on is the colour they'll be. @M4RC Will be able to confirm1 point

i think someone mentioned in the Focus forum that using FOCCUS software with a OBD codereader you could turn them off. Volvo had them on their cars in the 1970s but they did not catch on . In the 90s I had a 1977 Volvo 244 with them on.1 point

Show them the video. If you have concerns about anything on your car I cannot understand why you wait a month before doing anything about it. A 2014 Fiesta is not a "ST Line".1 point

Personally I would just sign it on his behalf. There would only be an issue if your Brother decided that he didn't want it sold and challenged the sale himself saying he hadn't signed it. I've sold a car to Trade and signed it on behalf of my Daughter and the Traders weren't at all bothered. DVLA do not check the signatures on the V5's as far as I can find. Also in the old days of applying for car tax at a Post Office and having to sign and send off the V5 at the same time if you had just bought the car, you were allowed to sign it in your own name and then in brackets write your relationship to the new owner.1 point

Id guess they claimed the oil was changed? Check your dipstick.. Does it look fresh? (more gold/yellow than brown/black) You could even undo the airbox and check the filter is fresh Other than that you'd be taking plugs out etc which isn't worth the fuss as you'd know from the other two things1 point

I have heard that some on here have used it and its made a difference - works best on the higher mileage cars, what mileage is your car on?1 point

if your going to be sarcastic about it can you refrain from posting any comments please. Its a great guide, not everyone is confident about attacking a car with a screwdriver, it also shows where those clips hide!1 point
