  1. Hi, I own a Mk2 Focus LX but it has no front foglamps. Is it possible to add these and is it an easy upgrade and if so, what's involved ? Many Thanks

  3. You can use a piggyback fuse from the tow bar module slot as this is unused and is always on - even after the power save relay kicks out. Buy a second piggy back fuse and insert it into to aux port fuse slot, link the two together and you're done.

  7. No I didn't, simply because I wanted to compare the difference between the two sets of speakers. If I decide to amp them up, that maybe a job for the future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. What do you mean by options? You could DIY, get a local bodyshop to do it, stoneacre York might still do this or send it to paintmodz if not painting could try plasicote. Could have a pattern put on by having it hydrodipped paintmodz have a sister company that does this, might be able to wrap it.

  13. Thanks guys. Trying to keep external mods subtle, it's the small things that make the difference. Still got to decide whether to do the whole under bonnet paint job like on the ST or go for performance mods instead.

  16. Being 6ft tall; I do like having successfully raised all of the downstairs; light switches on the walls up from there original height of 43" from floor up to there new more comfortable and aesthetically pleasant height of 54" inches up from the floor.👍 I now need some more expanding foam and pollyfiller, to complete before painting, all switches upstairs are already 54" up from the floor.

  19. The front foglight wiring is not always present on a Focus MK2/MK2.5 without front foglights. If the foglight wiring is not present it needs to be installed. Ford used to sell the front foglight wiring harness as an accessoire part but unfortunately this wiring harness is currently no longer available. This basically means that when the front foglight wiring is not present you either have to take the wiring harness out of a scrap car or you have to make the wiring harness yourself.

  21. I think the wiring is under the front somewhere may need to take a good look around and you may need to uprate the light switch if there is no front fog light marking on your old one

  22. Coil packs are common failures, and the front springs were affected by a recall. Not all vehicles were taken in for the recall which involved the addition of a zinc (I believe) block at the bottom of the spring to prevent corrosion where water sat

  23. Did u fit any sound deadening when you did ur speakers? I had it fitted to my mk2.5 and you can hear the dif when you knock on the door skins on the outside of the car which obv helps with sound quality inside. Im having coaxials fitted in the rear next, same make though. Since its only for back fill dont see point in fitting components there.

  24. I don't think I'm hearing better sound, I know it's better, the bass response is tighter and there's no vibration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. Just to point out MTX are good quality speakers, but they're coaxial and my focus already has seperate tweeters. Maybe thats why you think your hearing such better sound. Essentially your adding 2 speakers. And your right about paper cones. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  27. I had one from new - an 06. The coil pack went inside a month and later had two front springs broken. I ran it for 50,000 miles and it was quite economical. At 50k my son had it and he still has it and it's still going strong with well over 100k on the clock.

  28. I have the fusion 1.4. It has enough to keep you out of trouble, but is no flying machine. However, it is very, very smooth, quiet and vibe free, so 80 mph motorway cruising is perfectly comfortable, provided you accept that sudden bursts of acceleration from that speed won't be happening. Provided you're realistic about what you're getting its a pleasant enough engine option. I get 46/45 mpg overall from the bigger, heavier Fusion (you'll do better in the Fester) but don't need oil changes every 6k, dont have to worry about turbos or DMFs etc, and lighter weight and more progressive power deliver doesn't munch front tyres like the diesel. Its a much better ownership proposition that the diesel, particularly as the cars age - elderlynof high mileage diesels are like used hand grenades, and maintenance and repair costs can massively wipe out any saving made on fuel.

  32. It sounds fine from reading the Ebay entry. If it is not Forscan & Ford compatible, you should get your money back as the trader claims it is! Forscan is not as convenient or easy to use as a simple self-contained OBD2 scanner. But if there are additive or DPF problems, or ABS, steering or body related problems, then Forscan is much more likely to tell you something about them than a simple scanner. I have both, a basic U480 scanner bought quite a few years ago, which is dead easy to hook up for basic engine problems, and Forscan for deeper problems & investigations. And I have used them quite a few times on my 10 and a half year old, 160,000 mile Ford! --------------- This is my standard intro to Forscan: Forscan is a powerful Ford specific system, Cost is about £15.00 for the interface. It needs a computer of some sort. (COM port, USB, Bluetooth or WiFi interfaces available). You will find a lot about ELM327 & Forscan on this site, which together provide a very comprehensive diagnosis & maintenance tool. James (jeebowhite) has done a nice guide: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=21196 The Tunnelrat ELM237s have been reported to work well by several people, and are stated to be compatible with Forscan and ELMConfig. (No personal experience or particular recommendation!) http://www.spanglefish.com/TunnelratElectronics/index.asp?pageid=516992 Forscan works best on a Windows laptop, with a USB ELM. Forscan is also available for iOS & Android for some tablets & phones, using USB if available, or Bluetooth or WiFi ELMs. Wireless ELMs are often not as reliable as the wired ones. Also they are rarer in the "modified" form which is needed to access the 2nd Ford bus system. This 2nd bus is the MS-CAN bus, and links all the car interior electronics like door modules, and the BCM (aka GEM). But a standard ELM will still work with all the Underbonnet Modules (PCM, ABS etc) and with the IC (Instrument Cluster). The Forscan programme is free (in Windows format) and you can get it from: http://forscan.org/download.html Note: Simply reading the codes can do no harm, and does not change anything. Just do not reset the codes (and you would have to ask the scanner to do this) if you are going to take the car to a garage.

I found these, which look the right thing though, but never used the website before so couldn't tell you how accurate the information is or if they're trustworthy enough to put your bank details into. https://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fiesta_steering_rack_limiter_kit_f_1573895_c_416.htm

  34. In regards to reliability Theyre extremely cheap to maintain especially if you're using an independent trusted garage instead of £80 per hour labour at Ford I had one with 126k miles on which was solid till I crashed it One with 96k miles on, again, solid (I did the timing belt and servicing myself Had a family member with one at 110k without issues And my girlfriend currently has one with 89k so you may just have had a bad egg, which unfortunately there out there. A point to remember is we don't have a clue about the history of these cars regardless of what service history is there. If it's had issues in the past these can cause issues (such as engine failure) in the future, as with any car The rattles really are a pain, and the hunt for them really does get boring

  38. Be sure to update your headunit software to version 3.10 (sync 2 update) unless you have sync 3. The sound comes out at the rear much better after the update. Let me know how you get on with the upgraded speakers :-) Jamie

  39. From experiance with living with Ford cars since the 1980's Ford has used a paper mix cone, its nothing new, and tbh theres nothing wrong with paper cones, That is why they offer an upgrade either as an accessory at the dealer or a factory fitted option ie upgraded system for example like mine i chose the Premium Nav option which included 10 Premium Sony Blue Plastic cone speakers, i say plastic but im sure they are not just plastic, Plus, You can fit 1000W speakers in each corner but they will Likely only be fed with 20Watts Each, Due to the power rating of the *amp installed If you want to install a seperate amp then that leads you down the Modified Garden path. And TBH Im impressed by the sound quality from my sound system, Jamie

  43. ive been changing my 1.6 TDCI fuel filter every 12k, it seems that the longer you leave it after that point, the more likely you will run in to issues, I did have a fuel pressure sensor problem 6 months ago that resulted in engine cut outs that was flagged with high and low fuel pressure DTCs get one of these... http://www.spanglefish.com/TunnelratElectronics/ , its well worth getting, I highly recommend the ones above, I have 3 of them now, 2 USB (gave one to a mate) and a Bluetooth, all have been flawless and have helped narrow down a number of issues over the years. Id stay clear of Chinese knock offs, yes they may be cheap but I have a wifi one which temporally broke the car, threw up engine malfunction errors and all sorts, car refused to start, took the cheap wifi device out and all was well in the world . Ill never recommend a cheap fleebay ELM327 again

  44. it is likely there will be an error code recorded. everyone should have a code reader, you never know when you might need it. wifi, bluetooth or usb. they don't cost much. i bought one from here a few days ago. Price included UK postage. Arrived quickly. https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/ I got USB Modified ELM327 Dealer will probably charge you more to check code than the cost of one of these code readers This ebay seller steve.elmer is the same person I believe

  48. The ford set do look 'cleaner' but I'd not want a puddle in the boot
    1 point
  49. Hi MJ, Thanks for your reply. You are correct that it is not the bar I am worried about but rather buying a box that will foul the rear spoiler when the boot is opened. I also don't want to have to worry about opening the boot gently as any passenger could open the boot and not remember to be gentle and I'd worry that could potentially cause damage / cracking to the spoiler to occur. The rack mounts were installed up until May 2013 I think so they will definitely be on the 2009 model. I have heard of the water ingress issues but I am sure I can avoid this with common sense, a bit of time, and maybe some silicone sealant and possibly some lithium grease or similar. Hi Lewie, I have looked everywhere for the information I'm after but I cant find it. I have found pics online and after making some rough calculations scaling them to my own car I reckon the front bar is around 1200mm from the open boot, the rear bar is around 400mm from the open boot and the bars have roughly 700mm centres. Price considerations mean I am looking at Thule's cheaper range of boxes - the "Touring" series. There are 5 boxes in the series. three can be discounted for being too long, too narrow (I want minimum 600mm wide), or both (600-Sport, 700-Alpine, 780-L) Leaving me with two options, either the smallest one or the next one up (100-S or 200-M). Based on my guesses above I believe that I should be able to squeeze the 200-m on without it fouling the boot lid when open (I hope I am right). There are a few reasons why I am not considering the Thule bars: The 09 fiesta has a specific mounting system and a specific rack specifically for the car. Why choose something different? The Ford system is cheaper I am sure (just picked up a new one for under £100, either system will likely become redundant if I get a new car anyway). Ford system looks better. I have a 3 door fiesta so there are no rear doors frames to fix the rear bar to. I don't really like the way it clamps onto the door frame anyway. The clamps seem to foul the door seal. I don't like Thule's solution for three door cars (see Pic below), looks like a bodge with both clamps on the front door and the rear bar just resting on top of the roof. I have also heard stories about this design coming loose! Once I have all the bits I will update this thread with the confirmed detail Thule system: Ford System: Both images from: http://www.ford-accessories.co.uk/fiesta/2012/transportation/roof-transportation?intcmp=other:acc:pdp:prod-list-view::select-product-group# Ford System: above image from: https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-replacement-parts/ford-fiesta-mk7-roof-bars-roof-rack/1187153065 Thule Touring 200-M Box: More information here: https://cdn1.static-tgdp.com/assetloader.axd?pimid=634201&id=562710&brand=Thule&market=GB (link to manual download) Web page: https://www.thule.com/en-gb/gb/cargo-carrier/car-top-carrier/thule-touring-m-_-634200.
