The only people who wave at me for stopping are 80 year old pensioners... Perhaps it is due to the car I'm driving!!3 points

Hey guys. Just wanted to give the verdict on the new battery since the car, out of the blue, failed to crank over even once yesterday morning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ New Battery Details Voltage check unconnected 12.66v Connected up to car 12.47v Engine running 14.51v (steady) Resting voltage after a start 12.90v 30 min drive up to temp some WOT. Resting voltage 2hr after a drive 12.66v Engine running (still slightly warm) 14.40v ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So it appears a new battery solved it Who would have thought that one day you can come to your car, (which has always started first turn of the key) and find it dead with no prior warning Clearly it's not losing any charge and it wouldn't fire up after 30 minutes yesterday so it's looking like the battery went kaput. The battery looked like the original one and was stamped 07/09 so it lasted well. Can't thank you guys enough for all your help and advice2 points

Same car as mine, only mine is a 3 door and red, really like mine, am a bit disappointed with the fuel consumption (low 30s) but overall a great car, you won't be disappointed, it'll turn heads I'm sure 👍2 points

I do like stopping at a pedestrian crossing to let a couple of teenage/young 20s females cross and getting a wave, the young boy in the car coming the other way who didn't stop for them got the finger!!!2 points

Hi all, so not really posted my motor up, but i passed my test 2 weeks ago (1 minor - ooosh lol) so i've been posting more now (was all kept a secret whilst i learnt to drive from my family/friends) but thought i'd show off my motor, show yer some of the adaption's I've had done to help me (i have achondroplasia which is a form of dwarfism). Still more work to do on how i want it to look, but at the moment getting a lot of compliments. (hope to get it on a stand at some point) Took good few month's as i had to pay for it all (adaptions etc) and arrange it all myself to be done. Some of it was done in house by dad. so as can see, automatic I've gone for as just genuinely more easier for me to deal with. As i was struggling to select the button to release from park etc with belt on, a company made a easy release lever to i can just pull & push's button with ease for me to select. They then made a same sort of lever for the handbrake. And then custom made the pedals with a platform flooring (this is going to be carpeted & made bigger for me) takes less than 5mins to all take out so someone else able to use the vehicle. Then as i was learning to drive i was leaning forward a lot to grab indicator where as most just hit it with there finger when turning, purchased an adaption i see online & we fabricated it more to benefit me. The seating is no different, i have a booster seat just used as a lumbar support but nothing to raise me up as seat is very good, also separate headrest - currently dealing with leather custom interior company who are going to make the lumbar support look better/headrest to match the current leather interior/stitching/style of what's in the vehicle at moment. A hydrualic bonnet strut was added so can go up easier for me, a small metal clip to attach to bonnet latch just before it goes up with tough handle so i'm able to pull bonnet down and unclick it when just about to shut the bonnet. Same sort of thing for the boot. last pics are of the car how it is currently with bit of lowering (30 all round eibach), st spoiler fitted, new gel badges all round changed, private plate (a present), front windows tinted with sun strip & changed from 16" to 17" alloys. Clear indicator bulbs on the way from Autobeam to detango it. Will upload more pics when it start's to take more shape - getting Ariel mast, washer jets, window wiper arms all done panther black. brake calipers to be painted. and ambient light all round inside to be changed (when i can find someone able to do it) then when stopped spending money, will upgrade factory speakers with sub/amp and possibly a new head unit. Sorry if gone on, but having kept it all a secret for last 4 months it just feel's great to show1 point

Morning peeps. Well.... Came to my trusty Focus this morning, turned the key, "wer der der ...der"... and silence My car has always started first turn of the key and recently had a 220 mile round trip, nah I thought, so I tried again, 1 crank and nothing. I got the multimeter on the battery and it was showing +12v, so I got my bro to jump start me and she fired up as usual. I let her get 2 minutes of charge, stopped me car and she fired up again as usual on her own with no leads attached. So what could the problem be? I don't understand it as it has not given me any indication that the battery is on it's way out, after I tried to start it I noticed the rev counter needle wobbling a bit after the attempted start in the bottom position which I thought was odd. It's showing 15+v when engine running so it can't be alternator, so maybe the cold cranking amps of the battery or shot? I dunno what to do now. I guess I need a new battery and breakdown cover. Who do you guys recommend for breakdown and what kinda battery would you recommend if you feel this is a battery issue. Well there goes my Costa coffee morning and air filter fund1 point

I honestly listen to anything and everything. Currently got a mixture from the Buzzcocks, Dire Straits, DJ Sammy, Divinyls, Bon Jovi, Nickelback, Nirvana, Greenday, etc! Not forgetting Avicii and A-ha.1 point

Individual parts are very rare. Tbh you're best off sourcing a full mechanism from a breakers or ebay. If you PM me your VIN I'll price up a new part and then try to point you towards a compatible ebay part. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk1 point

Lenny. I take it the dishwasher waste pipe is connected to the u bend via a tapered pipe which sticks out of it? The way to stop sink water from escaping that pipe is to undo the removable bit. Get some cling film and make a piece 2" square and about 3 or 4 sheets thick. Pace over the pipe and screw back on the tapered part which the dishwasher waste pipe goes on. Trust me it works. No need to buy blanking washers.1 point

Was the top timing belt changed when you said you had your belt changed last year? I would be considering my statutory rights with regards to paying for a belt which supposedly will last many more years than just one.1 point

That's great, appreciate the input everyone. So like you say its a process of elimination, tomorrow I will connect it and fire her up and let you guys know what the volts are reading and try that menu trick and get as much intel as I can at and take it from there.1 point
-
You have to eliminate, and 15V at the battery is high, and is more likely to be indicating an internal battery fault (a cell can be shorted with the lead sulphate build up below the plates on an old battery. The battery is cheaper than the alternator to swap! If the battery voltage doesn't drop back to high 13's low 14's after a couple of minutes, you're not going to bugger the battery in that short time...1 point

Hey guys. OK so battery is in, had a nightmare job of it today, all engine to bits EGR valve off and everything back on, figured now was a good time as any with battery out and airbox off, my lower back is shot. So car is back together battery installed all but the positive terminal, basically I'm scared to connect it What if it is a dodgy alternator thing and I ruin this brand new battery, did I just buy a brand new battery for no reason lol, I am not sure you should totally deplete these calcium ones either. So how would you guys go about this? Will the menu thing tell me whats going wrong. Knowing my luck it will start, I will go for a drive, park up, come back to car and dead battery. Any help on what the next step should be would most welcome.1 point

whilst it is unlikely, it could be alternator. If a diode in the rectifier pack built into the alternator gets dodgy the alternator may still charge fine, but it will allow the power stored in the battery to discharge slowly through the alternator when the car is parked. This can happen and I have had one that did it. Think of the diodes like a valve. It should let power pass out of the alternator towards the battery but not allow any power to go back the other way when parked. They can get a slight leak so the power seeps back the wrong way slowly. In my experience it is rare but it can happen.1 point

I've found this place & it seems quite good. It's about 15 minutes drive from me. The garage itself seems clean & organised, although I know that doesn't always mean much......................... http://www.roadrunnerservicecentre.co.uk/servicing/1 point

Hey guys. Thanks for the comments, I will certainly be extra careful when bleeding the brakes. Something not right with mine, theres pressure but when I press the pedal the car just wants to run on, its not stopping it. I have just ordered new discs and pads for the front but my bro looked at them and said the discs look almost new and theres loads of meat on the pads :( Too late now, got new stuff coming, decided to go first class and replace the rear drums and shoes too then bleed and if that don't fix issues it has to be a server or something, I figure invest in it now for trouble free braking later on, brakes are kinda important lol. I did notice yesterday after a 220 mile round trip, there was a lot of brake dust on the nearside wheel and hardly any on the right, I wonder if I have a sticking caliper or something which might explain things. Sooner its all to bits and cleaned up the better, I'll take some pics as I go :)1 point

A-Ha! I wondered how they did it. OK thanks for that William, I'll put the web to good use. Cheers1 point

Hey guys.. am confused When it comes to bleeding the brakes, I have these nasty old fashioned brake shoes business at the rear, I have never messed with these before and the prospect of doing so with all this clips and springs is rather daunting. I thought brake shoes were just cable operated handbrake? I mean where would a brake caliper sit in a shoe set up, so how can I bleed the rear shoes If someone can explain to me with me having shoes on this model if the rears need bleeding too that would be great. Thanks again1 point
-
Cheers William will do mate :) I just ordered these, I do hope its right one for my car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1720951556611 point

I'll make sure I have an array of tool with me when I do this :) I really wanted to buy a metal detector with the last of me paper but man my brakes are no good, hate being sensible So I've scrapped the idea of toys and gonna blow another wad on the car again Filled her up this morning with Shell V-Power Nitro+ (cool names) and a shot of millers, did the tyre pressures, 36 all round, was 29 fronts and 30 rears, feels a lot livelier and nicer to drive, just need to be able to stop now. Quick look under the bonnet and checked the brake fluid res and the fluid level is bang on min or maybe a mm under, maybe what's happened in the 8k miles I have done in my ownership is pads have gone down and therefore fluid gone down with it. So it looks like its discs n pads n bleed time. I do hope its straight forward. Gonna go with Alberts advice for the mintex discs n pads then I will bleed n report back cap'n1 point

Good morning Albert, yeah I checked in my little black book lol,I replaced mine last year with stainless steel. If I'm wrong I do apologise at least we can agree front and rear are different sizes lol.1 point

Mine is over 2 years old so I have the one before the new wide (C2) lenses came out, I'd definitely get the wider (C2) version, as a Dashcam you want it as wide as possible to capture as much as possible. I've recently bought the JooVuu X Dashcam, similar design to Mobius but a few more fancy features, It's been a royal pain in the bum getting Wi-Fi to work and it not keeping the date settings, also had to dismantle it to manually focus it correctly and the 90min battery lasts a few minutes. If I had to buy again soon I'd just get a Mobius C2.1 point
