Its a car driven by old codgers that no longer fix thier own cars and can no longer get into mondeos😂5 points

The main problem with spacesavesrs is heat. As long as it's correctly inflated (around 60psi iirc!) and you do not exceed 50mph it should be ok for days or even weeks in theory. They affect handling badly though so I would get it sorted asap, I know of a few people that have crashed on them, they can be lethal in the wet.3 points

You can only answer if you have experienced it, and sometimes the description of the topic is so poor you havnt got a clue as to what it is.3 points

Some fault codes clear with the ignition, you need to ge the code read without switching off, then you stand a chane of seeing why your car has gone into limp mode, your options are to limp to a garage that can read the codes there and then, unlikely, call out road side assistance if you have it or get Forscan a free download and a modifed ELM adapter, and do it yourself youll need a laptop. Dont bother with the cheap elm's of ebay most are rubbish. https://forscan.org/download.html https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/USB_Modified_ELM327/p4541936_17045457.aspx2 points

Tbh I think most CMax owners struggle with a TV remote let alone an online forum. I completely agree though, the Focus & Fiesta forums, as well as the general forums are plenty active enough. This is about the only forum I'm still on now (despite not owning a Ford for the last 8 months!) as the rest have either closed down completely or are so quiet you can just watch the tumble weed rolling through. Facebook groups are where it's at these days, they don't have the same structure as forums but for quick answers and a huge audience they work really well. I wonder why Renault forums are so active...2 points

Save yourself the money and hassle of calling the AA out by using Forscan at home. If you do call them out, dont bother mentioning possible faults you read about online. Nobody likes to be told how to do their job, you know. I mean if you really knew that it could be an o2 sensor, youd be doing the job yourself...1 point
-
I used the AA who came to my home and diagnosed a fault using their system, took 5 mins (was O2 sensor)1 point

Start stop doesn't kick in until the car is in neutral AND the clutch pedal is released for just that reason. Sounds more like a stall than stop start activating. Fyi, if you have stop start then you should also have stall recovery, if you stall then just press the clutch pedal and the engine should restart. Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)1 point

The 1.4 and 1.6 are quite revvy engines, and not much happens at low rpm. The 1.4 is underpowered (1.6 is fine but not quick) but you do need to work the gears more compared to a larger or more torquey engine. Just drive it and figure out where the shift points need to be.1 point

Just bought myself a bluetooth obd reader to check the engine code so i will see what it says.1 point

Yes, I am not too worried about the stress on the spacesaver, my daily run is 23 miles in a 30 zone and 2 mile in a 40 zone and on top of that I just take it easy anyway. Your right, my next day off is when I turn up at my friendly tyre shop first thing in the morning. Interestingly, I cannot detect any change to the noise or ride characteristics when driving to and from work when I fitted the spacesaver. Scania PBman.1 point

there's no limit how far you can go but there's a speed limit 50 miles a hour but you should get your other tyre fixed as soon as1 point

Well it is in my case. Having said that its still fun to drive and suprise lots of other drivers1 point

Don't know if they still do them but bought a couple of sets from Tesco, pretty cheap but effective 😎1 point

Yeah Tapatalk still can't see pictures (except for in the thread preview), but it does allow you to upload them. I'm using Chrome on my Samsung Galaxy and everything seems fine. I've never used any of the built-in Samsung apps. They're all disabled and replaced with better apps from Google...1 point
-
I know what you meant lol, I'm just using standard Samsung Galaxy internet browser, Google. I read Tapatalk has issues too recently.1 point

Nope - I have 2 young kids so watching the qualifying and race live is a distant memory. Channel 4 highlights are just fine for me...1 point

Yeah I agree with the gear difference. Driving around my estate the Octavia (at slow speed) was quite happy in 3rd gear. The Focus needs to be in 2nd to keep the same momentum and needs a little more push on the the accelerator to keep from labouring.1 point
-
The Focus is only around 50Kg lighter...which works out as an extra 3bhp per tonne. Not even noticeable in real world conditions.1 point

I agree with that. I've got F1 and F1 97 for PS1 and his commentary just made the games.1 point

I've been looking into fitting an extra 12v socket in the upper dash of my mk2.5 for a sat nav- so as to avoid having trailing wires down to the standard one. Spotted a guide about fitting one to the dash top storage bin, but being a style trim level mine doesn't have that. Drilling the dash itself should of course give the same result, but is there a way of getting a hole saw in there?1 point

Follow my dash cam guide for a switched live, Just use a piggy back fuse adapter. The feed then becomes live with ignition1 point

I say if you are unsure get it done professionally you can damage your engine if not done right1 point

No, when I click to choose files it just does nothing sometimes, most times it lets me choose a file. Is there a daily or weekly upload limit?1 point

Tbf he did change the tensioner on that programme...held the belt under tension with a cable tie while swapping them over. It was actually a pretty good idea but has now spread across the forums with lots of people thinking they can just swap a cambelt in 30 seconds. It also won't work on a lot of cars because of the lip on the crank pulley lol.1 point

They're just geared differently. Both cars are extremely slow in modern terms (around 14-15 seconds 0-60!!) but the Octy has better low end gearing as it's designed to be nippy around town. This also means you work the engine less hard to get the same result so get better MPG.1 point

I’m afraid that’s just how it is with the Focus, it’s a very heavy car and in reality a 78bhp 1.4 is far too underpowered for the job. Although I can’t imagine a 1.4 Octavia would be much better in all honesty, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your car.1 point
