Cambelt Help!

I recently bought an ex fleet Focus 2 that was main dealer serviced right up to nearly 150K miles. After realising that there was a gap in the service history I contacted the Ford main dealer to ask if they could do a printout of all the works carried out while under their care and asked if the cambelt had been changed. The answer came back over the phone was 'for some reason it doesn't look like it has been done' which is amazing considering this is a Ford main dealer!!!!. They very kindly faxed through the service schedule and the only pointer I have is that it recieved a 125,000 mile service. Q: Could it have been done then?.

Who knows? Does it indicate how much the service was?

I would say no it hadnt been done with the 125000 mle service, the cam belt would have been a seperate job and there for would have been listed on an invoice, if in doubt, change it

Yes, I'm going to have it replaced. My main beef is that it was that the bars...d wide boy dealer who sold it to me said it had been replaced at 116K. Should have done my own research before handing over the spons but time is of the essence when you've got a full time job and family to support. Just makes me more cynical than ever that you can't believe anyone!!!.

if the dealer said it had been replaced at 116k, it may have been. he might have misplaced the receipt for it, worth a call back to him and asking if he forgot to give you any receipts, slim chance but maybe. if not, than you should get the cam belt replaced for sure.

Get Ford to check the cambel and make sure it looks new, if not, you can tell the seller (hopefully a business) that the car is not as descrivbed, thus not fit for purpose, either get your money back or they should pay to / rectify the problems!

I think the dealer thought it had been done as had been serviced by a main Ford Dealer (2 in fact) right up to the end of the lease at 149K so by rights it should have been done (so much for main dealers eh!). It was however, a lie to say "It's been done" so I'm going to write to the dealer and mention trading standards. I just hate being lied to.
