I have a fiesta 1.4 2003 zetec.

When the engine and weather is cold, usually the morning. It is difficult to start the car. It starts but then immediately cuts out. The second time i would start it and rev slightly and wait until the engine gets warm (if i do not rev the engine would cut out again)

After it is warm the engine is fine.

This is extremely annoying when I'm in a rush to work!

Any ideas why this is?

Is it a diesel or petrol model?

Petrol model

I'd try changing your spark plugs/ht leads first and if that doesn't work you're maybe looking at a coil pack. I had it on my 1.3 and when it was started on a cold morning it would jump and judder for the first 5 mins until it warmed up and then after that it was fine, that turned out to the coil pack, hope this helps mate let me know how you get on. Start off with the plugs and leads first cause they're cheaper, I'd change them both at the same time and make sure you use genuine ford approved spark plugs and leads as after market ones usually cause problems. Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have already changed the coil pack, spark plugs ad HT leads. And serviced the car

Have you checked the power at the battery to make sure the battery's ok?

I have this sort of problem when its a cold wet day first time trying to start the car. I found that usi g GT85 or WD40 to spray leads at spark plug end wile connected the night before helps as I think it stops moisture but it is a temporary fix that works once each time. I have leads which I will be replacing very soon. try and spray them the night before and if it starts well or better the next morning at least you have a rought idea where to start.

Keep us updated and let us know what the problem is when solved :)

I took the car for an MOT today and the mechanic said the problem is due to an induction leak. It costs £130 to fix!!! Does anyone know what this means so i can fix it myself?
