Privacy Glass

Hi guys,

This is my first post on the FOC. I've just taken delivery of my new Fiesta Zetec 1.0L ecoboost, and so far I've been pretty pleased with it.

However, when I collected my vehicle, even though I had paid for privacy glass, apparently there had been delays and it has been delivered without it.

The dealer I've bought it through have said that if I take it in next week they can tint the windows for me.

Is this something that would have been completed in the factory anyway or is the privacy glass indeed tinted glass itself and not film?

My previous car had tinted glass and was definitely not film but it wasn't a Ford.

Also if anyone else has a Fiesta in Deep Impact Blue with the privacy glass, pictures would be much obliged so I can see how it should look!

Many thanks for your help!post-53296-139926911391_thumb.jpg

Factory tinted glass is indeed that, not a film.

Welcome,

This is my focus with tinted film 35% rear and 10% front side windows, really cant tell the difference when fitted but theres a big difference in cost,

My tint cost 180 euro im sure you paid more than 150GBP for privacey glass, so if i was you id get a refund for the privacey glass and get the car tinted by a company yourself.

And this is factory tinted rear glass

Thanks for the replies!

It seems a little fishy, I'm going to speak to the dealer and tell them I'm not that happy about the film idea. I've paid £200 for factory tinted glass, not film!

If they can change the glass to that, I will be happy otherwise I'll probably just get a refund.

Thanks again!

The garage should have asked you if it's ok to supply the car without privacy glass before delivery.

Tinting is ok so long as it doesn't peel or bubble and will scratch easier than privacy glass.

Get them to change the glass or you'll reject the car as it's not what you ordered,

the problem if they use a tinting film is if one of them gets smashed then it will be replaced with non tinted glass.

It's just a personal thing but I am not a fan of it anyway especially on the black cars which just makes them look like a van.

The tint is supposed to be all over but UK regs say you can't put it on the front 3 bits so it ends up looking like a half and half.

Personally I would leave your car as it is and just get the refund.

I personally love my privacy glass. It means people can't see what a state the back of the car is when my daughter has messed it up.

But if you do get tints, beware, they will eventually look rubbish, they end up scratching and peeling

I'd agree with what others have said. Reject the car because it's not what you ordered, and tell them you'll only accept it if they change the glass. It's what you paid for. If you can live without the privacy glass and really want/need the car then demand the money back you paid for the glass and maybe a bit extra by way of compensation. This is probably especially true if the car is on finance - the financed price will include the privacy glass and you'll be paying interest on that and so part of your monthly payment is for the glass. I'd be surprised if you got anywhere with that but if you don't ask......

A question about aftermarket tints - how does it not burn and peel when using the heated screen?

They gave me free mats and a tank of petrol for the trouble, so I accepted it on this basis. I'm inclined to ring them and explain I'm not happy about the film as this isn't what I was paying for! I might just get the refund.

I've just changed from a zetec S to a spirit blue st-2 with privacy glass, will get a side pic of it later on, it does look good and would recommend pushing for them to do it properly! Free mats and a tank of fuel is something you could get with a new car if you push the sales guy hard enough, it's by no means compensation for a car that was incorrectly ordered!

I know, but I got a good deal on it anyway. I'm not accepting film tints so I'm just going to ask them to do the windows properly. It's not too difficult to get the glass replaced and they should be able to order them.

I bought a used zs tdci from tc Harrison.

after a couple of weeks I noticed that the rear screen and one rear window were privacy glass and the other rear window was a normal tint (Don't know how I missed it)

I rang them up and they arranged to have it changed. They reckoned it may have been built like it

The windows are bonded in so they had it for a few hours while the adhesive went off properly

I would insist on replacing the glass

If you ordered it with privacy glass and had paid for it then IMO you should simply not have accepted the car at all.

the fact the dealer says its just how its been delivered etc is not your problem. Its up to them to supply you with the spec you ordered and are paying for, not to fob you off with a 'well that's it, tough luck' attitude.

I 100% would have walked and had my deposit back as well if they did that to me.

I agree with Kathhyp , I would have walked away dealers with my deposit and my finger in the air! ,they look after one thing themselves!, We were told " there weren't doing a batch of 1.4's but we could have a 1.6 as there doing them now ?" when my wide ordered her new '09 1.4 Titanium in panther black , What they were really saying is we've had a 1.6 Titanium cancelled that's just been done so we'll off load it .

Probably a daft question, but having never had tinted glass nor film, is it obvious if film has been used instead? I ask only because I'm due delivery of my Titanium soon and, having read this thread, will now be triple checking to be sure I haven't been stiffed on the glass!

it will be obvious if film after a few years, generally after a bit of condensation / extreme heat exposure it'll peel off in the corners / split.

factory tints generally last a lot lot longer and look better.

you can spot the difference because the tint is in the glass, where as after market stuff is just a film on the inside.
