Engine Fan Removal?

Hi guys,

Changing DPF tomorrow and just skimming the Haynes and it says the engine fan needs removing for access.

But it says the rad needs removing with the fan? That can't be right surely? Doesn't the fan shroud just clip in and lift out?

1.6 TDCi but I'd assume the Mk2.5s are all the same.

Cheers

Tom

Eeek! that's what I had read and was the final nail in the coffin of me trying to take the sump off on my own.

Its almost as if the designer specifically put all the parts youd likely need access to for frequent servicing in the most awkward positions that often need multiple other parts removed to gain proper access.

Even the oil and pollen filters are a pain in the !Removed!!

Hi, on my 1.8 tdci it came out from the top complete with the shroud and just clipped in, it was a bit of a fiddle to get it in and out. my car is an older one on a 05 plate, this may help.

Thanks Al, I can see the top clips, but cant see the bottom until I've removed some other bits, just seems mad that the rad would need to be drained for a DPF change lol.

Darren, I agree. I previously owned a Mk4 Golf, similar size to the Focus, but everything was easily accessible! Even a turbo change was easy enough despite being mounted behind the engine. I'll do my best not to have to drain the rad for the DPF, with any luck it'll be the same as above and just clip out...

when I had my work done to the DPF they cut a hole in the bottom of it to access it, made a right mess of the engine bay with dust an crap, every garage I took it o asking for quotes said the same thing, pain in the !Removed! to remove it. Hopefully they were just being lazy though, good luck an keep us posted!

So just to update this...its an excellent designed fan housing - ruined by a pipe clip on the front crossmember/grill thing.

You CAN remove it with brute force without removing the rad....but I cant get the fan back in now! :(

ah that sucks mate, it doesn't surprise me though, just another poorly design layout to add to the list!

Yeah, the fan cowling would literally just slide upwards after unclipping.

But they stick this lump in the way. All it does is provide a mount for the rubber ring of the air box and hold a coolant pipe. They could've used a removable mount for that!

May be hard to see but the blasck plastic running along the bottom of the pic is the fan cowl. The mount is above it.
