johnmcgee999
hi. My Ford Focus has been playing up for a while now. I'm not getting the power out of it as I used to 2 months ago. Te needle never goes over 3000 revs. It's sluggish from start. I've had a dpf re gen done. A new fuel filter out on. A new turbo put on. Then I had another service done. 1 injector was leaking but had that fixed. I've tried fuel additives. Nothing. Also sometimes when I'm at lights. Loads of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. This also happens when I drive the car at 3000 revs. Please help. I'm at my wits end. Thanx
TomsFocus
If it doesn't go over 3000rpm it's stuck in limp mode. Have you had the fault codes read?
johnmcgee999
There are no fault codes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
johnmcgee999
When I say sluggish. I mean it's not at quick as it used to be. It still keeps up with other cars on the road and I don't use any more fuel than normal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
What did you use to read them? If it was a generic reader they won't show up Ford specific codes. As far as I know limp mode will always produce a code. Without that it's hard to say what's at fault, could be various things. Personally I'd go for a knackered DPF, the white smoke is likely from it failing to regenerate. It could also be from massively overfuelling (knackered injector or glow plugs if cold) or burning oil from knackered turbo seals.
johnmcgee999
I done the cars own diagnostic using the computer reset button. It had a service about 4 weeks ago and the only fault they found was the leaky injector seal. How much do you think it would cost to get the injectors cleaned and tested. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
The dash diagnostics doesn't show all fault codes unfortunately, you need them read properly. I'm not sure if a service would've included a fault read unless it was a main dealer service? If you're handy with a laptop you can buy a modified ELM cable for £15 and use some free software to read the codes yourself. I really wouldn't go ahead with any further expensive work until there is a code to give at least a rough idea of the problem. Personally I'd still say the DPF is at fault. johnmcgee999
Thanks Tom. I'll get it to a garage as soon as I can Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

gers89
at least its not just my car and im sorry to hear that considering yours is 2 years new it does sound like a dpf failure A new turbo put on. you said was the dpf and etc changed flushed and changed again ? cause otherwise the problem will be more maybe turbo broken again and i wouldnt want that for ya or for anyone on here
johnmcgee999
The dpf was re generated in February. I do a lot of motorway miles each day. If it is the turbo. Well it's still under warranty but that error code never come up at the diagnostic service I had done a month ago. When they found the injector was leaking. When I had that done I put cat clean in and the car went like a bullet. Even wen cold. Which it has never done. gers89
You will have to find out from garage who fitted it as if done incorrectly that will void the warranty on turbo
johnmcgee999
It was put on by a car dealership that I bought the car from. Would you suggest taking out the dpf and jet washing it. I've seen a few stories on the web that says this works Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
Can't jet wash the 1.6 DPF due to the shape of it, I'd have tried otherwise. :( If it was manually regen'd back in Feb it may need doing again. I also do a lot of fast miles but doesn't seem to get hot enough to regen passively without needing the active/manual regens.
johnmcgee999
Wot are active manual regens. Can I do that or is that a specialist thing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
johnmcgee999
Also a chap on utube who has the same car as me said that he had jet washed his and it was fine afterwards. I dunno. Any advice is better than mine. I'm clueless with cars Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
It's just not possible I'm afraid, both ends of the DPF pipe are bent over, so you physically can't get the jetwash in there. If he has the 2.0TDCi Focus ythey are straight piped so easy cleaned like that. And if he has the same engine in an older Peugeot/Citroen the DPF on those is the same shape as ours but splits in the middle so again can be cleaned. johnmcgee999
Oh right. Oh well garage it is. Just found out that I'm supposed to put eolys fluid in the car wen its serviced. I thought they would do that automatically until I found out how much it costs. It wasn't done on the last 2 services. Will this be a major factor. I've just got some now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
It does need the Eolys to work, but should last ~35k miles. When it runs out you'll get a fault code to say it's run out. I missed your earlier post about active regens. The cars ECU sets of an active regen when it senses too much pressure in the DPF. You can also do a 'static' active regen yourself with the ELM cable, or the garage can do it for probably an hours labour. Passive regens are what 'should' happen when driving at motorway speed, if the DPF can get hot enough in that situation.
johnmcgee999
Thank you for your knowledge. I don't suppose the egr could be stuck could it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MONDEO TXS 2.2
It should be noted that higher engine / exhaust temps are vital for passive regens, vehicle speed is not always relevant but high engine revolutions are, as it is that which develops heat. johnmcgee999
I'm driving to Manchester and back tomorrow. 80 mile round trip. Wot sort of revs would you say would be safe and what gear for the journey. Thanx Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MONDEO TXS 2.2
80 miles should be enough, at the expense of M.P.G. i'd be tempted to drive as often as possible in, say, 4th instead of 5th, or 5th instead of 6th ( if you have 6 gears ) & therefore develop more heat as the engine revs' are higher. TomsFocus
Yes the EGR could be stuck...but again would produce a code...you really need the codes read... Yes it is correct higher RPM should cause higher temps, but I haven't found a speed/rpm that I can comfortably sit at AND get the DPF hot enough to passively regen with live testing myself. There may be an issue with mine though which I still haven't been able to diagnose yet. Driving at 70 (or more) in 4th still doesn't get it hot enough in mine. You could try 3rd but the noise and MPG of doing that wont be pleasant.
