Stuart jj
I have been sent this email yesterday from PayPal saying there are going to limit my account. It looks real and I had no doubt it was from them but I did a quick search on google first regarding the content and it's an hoax.. You click the link and put your details in and basically your screwed so thought I would just warn you of it case you get the same email... It looks very realistic as the email comes with all the logos etc. it also came with a link but I have removed it just in case anyone clicked it by mistake.. Stuart jj
Like I say the email itself is very realistic looking.. I know what your saying about the name,, that's why I thought I would put it on here as I didn't even take notice of this at the time.. I think I'm getting an old man lol.. Anyway just thought it may just make other people aware too Stu
mgaking
I'm just adding information to your warning. As a general point, if it isn't addressed by name then be suspicious. Think I have had that email as well - and yes it looked very real.
Russ
i always check the 'details' of the e-mail as it shows up the originator which would set alarm bells running
Stoney871
That scam has been running for years. Never believe any email saying your account is locked/limited. Never follow links in emails and always use your own regular links if you need to check facts.

jmurray01
That email is obviously spam in my eyes, but then I am fine-tuned to that kind of thing! I do worry about the uneducated and elderly though who would believe even the most obvious spam emails.

But first i have to transfer him £2k admin fee to make the transfer. Seems legit.
jeebowhite
no matter what the content, my rule is this - if its unexpected don't click it, this includes password changes and requests to update details. To simpligy the matter, my advice is: If it looks real, google it, if you really are paranoid visit the site outside of the email - most financial institutions would due to the FCA regulations I believe, be required to present you with a change of circumstances page, which you must read, tick the box to acknowledge and then proceed. If you are still not sure, contact the organisation via phone! if you really are seriously paranoid, when you are on a website and you dont know if its truly the real deal, it should if it contains any financial data, need a password to access it and have an SSL Certificate. there is normally a padlock icon at the left or right of the website address. Click this, if it has the real companies name, then its almost guaranteed to be fine, if it has a security certificate error of any form, then do not open it!

RAIDER32
I had that PayPal one about a year ago, Had me going for a minute, until I realised (like mentioned) the email wasn't named to me, What got me was how clean my Gmail & Outlook emails are in regards to Spam, and this got through, I use my old addresses for things I don't like or trust. Stoney871
I get legitimate emails from my bank occasionally and they always state my name and account number (ending in ×××× etc). Even then I don't follow any links. Simple rule is to log in using your normal web address and deal with things that way. I get messages from Lloyds and Barclays all the time and have definitely never banked with either of them. On a slight side note, I got a spurious transaction on one of my credit card bill this month, purporting to be a POS transaction to a grooming company (BRPBARBER.CO.UK) for £127, checked with the CC company and it is a spurious company registered abroad. Rang my CC company and they cancelled my card (new one on way) and refunded the payment by 6pm that day. I made enquiries with my forces fraud squad and apparently this scam is becoming quite widespread. Seems it starts with some shonky petrol station staff double swiping your card, eyeballing your cards security code (CSC), and selling your details on. If you carry out any transaction where they drop your card behind the counter and out of your eyeline be very suspicious. Suffice to say, the place where I'm 99% sure my card was pinged is being watched. Anyone in Plymouth are advised to avoid the Shell garage by Mannadon roundabout.
TheRookie
My card was 'done' this way at Shell garage several years ago. However, I think the scammer was the most idiotic person on the planet as they have paid with my card for AOL home broadband access. How dumb some people can be? :)
