@Foxxyblieu9 , @smartguy69 thanks for your answers!

I'll take a deeper look on this and take the time to search and find the good parts. With priority to parts form France, as it will be "preset" with the good language.

The easiest place to take the MS can is from the heater module. If I remember rightly it's the blue plug.  Pin 18 grey & orange on the heater module goes to pin 16 on the sync module.  P

I've juste found a combo screen/APIM, the APIM is JM5T-14G370-HNC,don't know if it's Nav or not... it has the GPS fakra connector on it, so... can suppose it is Nav version? (is it possible, on a non nav version, to make it nav? )

It's from a french Focus, I have the VIN but don't how to find it's detailed equipment (don't have any picture of the car)🤔

Interesting, maybe I was a tad wrong but with my own (Albeit sync 2 upgrade) I managed to keep my original ACM with the fact that you won’t get traffic updates, but I find personally that this is a non issue, I’ve only used the nav once and it worked fine.

to me it wasn’t worth the upgrade because I have the Sony 9 speaker acm. I could go to a FL acm for relatively cheap but I’d be getting reduced output.

i did take a look at the KUGA acm but the price of them instantly put me off

I think there are not many cars that are alike lol. We have a few members who have done the upgrade on the Kuga and there are noticeable differences. One of our members didn't have to do any programming. His just worked. I was the only one who got sync 1 ACM to work with sync 2 but that was down to someone on Forscan finding out how to do it with one setting change on the ACM. The other guys used a sync 2 ACM as their bluetooth didn't work. Most of us have upgraded to sync 3 now.

I ended up running a sync 3 ACM with my sync 1 system but only because I need the rubber bung to support the back and none of the dealers would sell me one. I personally thought the sync 1 ACM was better but one of our members who upgraded to sync 3 found by changing a few settings it can make the sound more improved. It was said the upgrade for the sync 1 ACM was by Sony. It isn't. They have their name on the panel only. It's made by someone else.

I would advise anyone trying the upgrade not to bother with "plug and play" leads from China. There is mention of it in this thread and we have had others who have ended up buying the leads and they either don't work or need modifying. I would say the ones from 4Dtech will be fine if they ship to the UK. It's not too difficult to make up your own lead using a camera adapter lead and extending it. If the Chinese leads were cheap enough they could be an option just to have the correct plugs but you would need to know how to check it's wired properly. I have  links for the 12 pin connector for the small screen display and 8 pin connector for the radio panel if anyone is interested.

The sync 3 units ending in GNC are definitely navigation. I am not 100% about the HNC. The difference in the lettering is down to a revised product. What the revision is could be anything. I did find a sync 3 unit for a Ford Ranger that ends in HNC that was navigation. The link below maybe useful as well.

When buying any sync 3 unit make sure it has both the touch screen and APIM. A lot of sellers are splitting them up. Some have disguised their pictures so it looks like it's complete but isn't. It needs have both screen and APIM and the yellow to blue fakra connector wired to both parts.

This one is NOT complete as it's missing the touch screen. BAD SELLER lol. If you look the yellow fakra isn't plugged into anything.

This is how it should look from the back.

image.thumb.png.118a4a1c2b0602bb5835c363a9fac6be.png

The navigation unit will be 64gb. The non-nav is 32gb. Ny research shows the one ending in HNC has navigation but it's always best to do your own research as well.

Focus 2016 Mk 3.5 Titanium APIM swap - FORScan forum

@smartguy69,

apparently the combo is APIM and screen (see the pic attached).

I've asked confirmation to the seller.

But... why some APIMS have the white connector near to the big 54 pins connector, and some have an empty space ?

image001.png

@Gregfocus - Not sure about the white connector. It was the same with sync 2. The black connector next to it goes to the usb hub. It's a mini/micro usb connector. There is only one usb lead which comes from the hub. Perhaps some fords have an additional usb hub but you won't need it for your car. Mine only has the black connector.

Thank you @smartguy69.

Sync3 screen and APIM ordered on monday, received today  (a french junkyard on ebay).

Will have to find the other parts pf the puzzle (mainly a front fascia in good condition, some I have found had scratches... so... a no go for me)

Morning all,

This is a great thread, however, spanning 56 pages it is a little tricky to get a full and complete up to date parts list to do this upgrade.

Is it possible someone can repost the part numbers required for all of the components needed to do this upgrade to SYNC3 in a 64 Focus MK3.

Thanks

You might be better off looking for a sync 1 to sync 3 upgrade thread or you can look at what Luke has posted for sync 2 on page 1 and swap out sync 2 screen for sync 3, swap out the sync 2 usb media hub for a sync 3 type and add a GPS antenna. Everything else is the same.

So after reading this thread (and a similar one in a german forum) over and over again, I finally did it. 😀

From this:

This already was an upgrade, because at first the car had Sync 1 without navigation.

Used a china plug & play wiring which works 95%. Only thing is that the doorlock switch does not work. And the cable for the GPSM module is not very long as you can see 😂

And of course the plug for the sub was not included.

So thanks to everyone here for the information and pictures here, that was a big help.

Next thing is the backup camera, already prepared the cable for it.

Well done on completing the upgrade. If I remember correctly the door lock switch isn't a proper switch like it was on the Fiesta circa 2012 but is merely a light. That is how it was on my Kuga when it had sync 1.

On my sync 3 I just put the GPS antenna underneath the top cover and it works fine.

Did the same with the GPS antenna on my Sync 1, never had any problems with it.

Unfortunately Ford changed that for Sync 2, just to change it back for Sync 3 again. 🤣

Hazard light (hope this is the correct term) and doorlock are proper switches here. Only thing is that the wiring is not correct because when i press the doorlock button, the harzard lights turn on. 😁

The button for the hazard light does nothing right now.

With the china wiring came a single cable connecting this switch to the old fascia plug, but it only has 3 pins. So i guess there should be 1 or 2 more to make it work properly.

I made my own loom so I could guarantee it was right. I haven't seen anyone who bought one of those chinese looms say it was 100% plug and play. Your fault will possibly on the 8 pin plug which goes to the radio controls.

On the Kuga the door lock switch is definitely a dummy as it has the door lock switch on the driver's door.

Hello everyone. I followed the instructions and successfully converted sync 1 to sync 2 on Ford focus 2016.
It was not easy and it has been going on for the fourth week.
I already had the gprs module so now i have a working navigation with f11 maps.
I programmed the apim module according to the instructions. But i have one problem.
Because my focus is mk 3.5, focccus won't read my ecu.
I read that these parameters can be changed through the forscan program
123 – Audio Aux Input change the value to 01 (without)
125 – DAB Radio System change the value to 01 (without)
154 – Module USB change the value to 01 (without)
157 – Bluetooth Handsfree change the value to 01 (without)
172 – Front Display change the value to 09 (DM8 with nav)
214 - ICP change the value to 09
I found some of these options in apim asbuilt but I'm not sure that they are correct.
I would be very grateful for your help if you could tell me what should be changed in forscan
because when calling via bluetooth they can hear me but i am not getting any sound through the car speakers.

Well done for getting this far.

Have you got the lates version of FoCCCus which is v0.8.6

FoCCCus was only supported for cars up to 2015 if I remember correctly but I have a theory on getting it to work for later cars. You will be missing the configuration files for your car. You should be able to download these from Forscan but you will need a paid licence. It's £11.00 or so for a year.

I have a theory that if you copy the configuration files into the .vbf folder into the FoCCCus .vbf folder you should be able to use that programme with your car but you may as well just use the central configuration option with Forscan.

You would be better off just using Forscan to make the changes.

MAKE SURE you have a decent battery AND have a battery charger connected. If you have an old style ELM 327 it may not be supported by later versions of Forscan and you need a VGATE VLINKER FS USB.

Thank you.

Yes i have latest version of FoCCCus and Vgate vLinker and another obd cable but it will not read or write the ECU.

You wrote the central configuration option in Forscan is this BMCii main?

I have changed the option Bluetooth handsfree from original setting SYNC G1 to without Bluetooth and then i didnt have voice control.

Now this option is set to SYNC G2/3 but i still do not have sound from speakers when calling.

When i was testing i inserted acm sync1 before i started changing these options in bcm.
Maybe that's why these changes in bcm have no effect. I have an acm module that i got with apim sync2.

Yes, you can make alterations in BCMii Main.

For bluetooth to work on the Focus you need a sync 2 or 3 ACM. I had to change one digit on the ACM on my Kuga for bluetooth to work but you cannot do that on the Focus as the ACM isn't programmable.

  • 2 months later...
Success. Now bluetooth calling works. I returned the ACM sync 2 module.
I also did all the necessary programming in forscan.
All options are in BCMI main, mode: engineering 2 (+ hidden).
Some options in FoCCCus have different names than in Forscan but they are all there.
Thanks everyone.

Don't worry about the programming as anything that doesn't work can be fixed. One of our members upgrading didn't have to change anything, I an the other hand had some issues.

No bluetooth with sync 1 ACM - Sorted by the change of one digit

Incorrect climate settings as sync unit from a titanium X - Sorted by uploading asbuilt from 2016 Titanium

No park pilot on screen - Sorted by changing architecture

No navigation - required nav update file

Mine works 100%. It took me ages to find the solution for the park pilot as I thought I had already changed the architecture lol. Only thing I have noticed is my park pilot only works with engine on and I believe it should work with just ignition on.

@Steevo25- any idea why my park pilot only comes on screen with engine on as opposed to just ignition on which I think is how it's supposed to be.

To get original Sync 1 ACM working with a Sync 2 or 3 APIM then check this in the ACM configuration as this worked for me.

The ACM should have an As-Built change when doing a 4" to 8" conversion.

The very first line, very first box in the as-built of the ACM.

727-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx

If you have a F, make it a B
If you have an E, make it an A
If you have a D, make it a 9
If you have a C, make it an 8
If you have a 6, make it a 2
If you have a 5, make it a 1
If you have a 4, make it a 0

The change choices in bold are most commonly seen... if you don't have one of the values listed above, then hex 4 is already disabled on your ACM.

This change tells the ACM which type of APIM you have. So now it knows you have the 8" Touch Screen APIM version versus the older non-touch 4" screen version.

Hi all, I have a Focus mk3.5 with Sync2 (Normal Audio, Italy).
I installed an expansion card to connect Android (which works very well) but I need to connect the audio through the AUX input that my car does not have (in the media hub there is only the USB socket and the one for the SD card of the navigator).
I have no problem connecting the input on the various pins of the 54-pin connector but my problem is enabling the AUX input on the SYNC2 since this option is not in the list of possible inputs...
Using Foccsus I have 123 – Audio Aux Input 01 (without), if I change (one or two aux inputs) and write in the BCM nothing changes.
Can anyone suggest me something?
(please do not say to use bluetooth... thanks)
