Reversing camera Sync 3

Featured Replies

Not all cars have grey plug. Does your car have front and rear parking sensors ?

If the grey plug is fitted then it will be hidden behind the trim in the rear right hand side of the boot.

  • Update here too! I successfully completed my install today, I had to run the cam wire the length of the car and to the back of the Sync3 unit as I had no plug on the wing. All working now [emoji16]

  • Thought I’d update this. Now have a working rear view camera using the grey plug. So easy to do and cost me under £25

This is the standard ford Mk3 prefacelift camera on the sync 3 upgrade.

Yes, it has front and rear sensors i will look for it these days. I will be upgrading from sync 1 to sync 3 and also want to add camera but im not 100% sure yet.  On sync 3 is it possible camera to be with dynamic lanes(aftermarket)?

Also if I have this gray connector-if I take oem camera is it just plug and play?

So i'm still looking into this for the mk4 and i have seen a rear camera loom on ebay and it doesn't go all the way to the APIM. After the circled rubber wiring case(where it goes between head lining and boot) there isn't much more wiring so it must plug into something. Has nobody tried retro fitting an oem camera on the mk4 yet??

I have a Focus MK4 2019 and have retro fitted a 'after market' reverse camera. There is no grey plug in the back of the MK4 and there is no wiring to the APIM. The pins are not even fitted in the connector that plugs in to the APIM.

Other than its a lot of work to dismantle the dashboard to get to the APIM which is so well hidden that even when you get to it you still can't see it, the job is not that difficult.

That harness and camera are for the MK3.5 Focus

Says mk4 on the advert4B87AD61-4F1B-410F-B7F2-976859EC3026.thumb.png.90b525fce87e0cd059d45093aa5226d5.png

I can read that, however its the same module for the Mk3.5

i dont know pal. just the part number is one for a mk4 with jx7t at the start. im wondering if on the mk4 it just has a different harness from camera and lights etc to the roof harness. i found a workshop manual with it in but not sure if the loom it joins to is different, which is a much bigger job. it definitely goes into the headlining.

As I said earlier there are no camera connection pins fitted in the plug that goes in to the APIM on the Mk4 Focus built without a reverse camera.

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread but I'm wondering what the quality of the number plate LEDs on these aftermarket camera units is like, compared with OEM? Are they still working properly?

I have managed to fit the reverse camera and programme th APIM to recognise camera. However it would seem I'm missing to cables from the bottom loom to the sync 3 unit. I think these are pins 14 & 15 from the floor multi plug under the centre console. Does anyone know what pins I would need to and the gauge and colour of these wires. I would assume they are green and blue as per colour of the grey boot plug. Frustrating so near yet so far

@Ginsing64

I had the same on my 2017 Titanium, the floor wiring to APIM was missing, Connector C237  Pins 34 and 35 to APIM C2383A Pins 14 and 15, also there will be a ground missing from that loom too (brown), either populated pin 40 on C237 or ground in the boot area

Actually OK, no perfect like OEM but very much passable

Hi! Also bumping old thread but some might find this helpful.

I have printed camera connector on 3D printer. It saves not only money but also time for replacing the whole harness.

You can find the project here:

The connector requires pins same as for Sync, so just buy more of them 🙂

I have the whole new tailgate harness with camera plug for sale. Focus MK4 tournier (combi). Located : Poland, 35£/41e ship to UK  £12, ship to EU 12e.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, would the adapter in the link above work to retrofit an aftermarket camera into a focus MK3.5, I might be buying one and I am prepping a parts list for things I normally do to a new car (this includes reversing camera if not fitted and a towbar again if not fitted)

Yes it will work for an aftermarket reverse camera (but not for a genuine Ford camera). Many people including myself preferred to just add the missing connector to the existing 54 pin socket as it makes a neater job. You just need to remove the cover from the back of the connector and inset the two wires.

Cheers, I'm only using an aftermarket camera as I had it as a surplus from my fez (I had a android radio in my fez and had to buy another camera to get the RCA adapter but the fez will be returning to stock when it leaves my possession)

Anyone know part number for genuine Reverse Camera for mk3.5 my friend got a focus and has gray adapter in the boot.

Part No:-

F1EB-19B514-BC for Mk3.5 Focus

JX7B-19B514-BC for Mk4 Focus

F1EB-19B514-BG for Mk8 Fiesta

L1TB-19B514-BB for Mk2  Puma

Various on eBay, but they aren't cheap.

Are you sure it is for camera? As far as I know this is number for the handle. Camera is JX7T-19G490-AB.

Sorry for reviving this old thread. Internet brought me to this discussion thread few weeks ago. Following all the information here, I successfully completed installing an aftermarket reverse camera on a mk3.5 focus. I feel obliged to report back one important thing. Having a factory grey plug in the boot doesn't always mean there is an established connection between the SYNC unit and the plug.

Mine is a mk3.5 titanium diesel with rear sensors and SYNC 3. There is a 6-pin grey plug in the right hand side of the boot. Assuming the plug was connected to the front, I went ahead to connect video+ and video- to blue wire and green wire in the grey plug using a RCA adapter. Then I activated rear camera in Forscan, performed a master reset in SYNC and powered on the camera. I could only get blue screen when I shifted into reverse.

Since I could not get video in the display unit, I went on to remove the SYNC unit and checked the APIM connector at the back. Discovered that there was no wire in slot 14 and slot 15 inside the 54-pin APIM connector. I then slotted in the RCA adapter (video+ to pin14 and video- to pin15), finally I could get the camera to work with the display!!

Hope the information will be helpful to whoever reading this thread in future. Good luck!

Since it is expensive and not easy.

I have installed a mirror that is connected to reversing camera.

The mirror is lenovo.

It also contains a dash camera.

The aftermarket camera that I got (integrated with boot release) from ebay was quite affordable (less than £20). Together with the RCA adapter that comes with crimped pins, the component cost is less than £30 for me.

It's true however that the installation process is not for the fainthearted, given the number of trims & screws that one has to remove from the center console in order to get to the back of the SYNC unit to validate the wire & pin arrangement of the 54-pin APIM connector.

But if you are the lucky ones having a grey plug AND (emphasis added) that you are sure your SYNC display can get video feed directly from the grey plug with the car's existing wiring connection, from what I read it is not necessary to mess up anything in the front portion of the car at all. That would save loads of time.

I happened to be the unlucky ones having a grey plug that connects to thin air. if i knew beforehand the connection was not there, I might have suppressed my OCD and gotten myself an additional screen/mirror with integrated display for the reverse camera.

Hope the information helps!

For me I had the same scenario, I had all the wiring from the rear of the car to the centre console plug, but nothing from there, made up a small harness that went from the centre console to the 54 pin APIM connector.

Indeed you are correct, however if you enter JX7B-19B514-BC into eBay it comes up with the fully assembly anyway, as you righty pointed out JX7T-19G490-AB is for the camera itself.
