Kodukoer
Hello, my dear old escort has not started for several weeks by now. At first it started with quick start, but now even that is no use. If I remove a plug and crank, it has frequent spark and looks like it should work, but no cylinders are firing at all. After cranking, plugs are wet with gas. I should mention that it probably has a failed MAF sensor because when it ran, it ran miles better with MAF unplugged. I truly hope that someone has some suggestions and any advice is greatly appreciated. Best wishes Taavet
Ianb117
Have you checked the cylinder compressions mate

It ran great and had proper power before it died. The day it died I took it to work that morning, after work drove home, went to sleep, next morning just would not fire up. Do you think that a compression problem could occur like that?
isetta
is it carb or injection. have you checked air filter or intake is not clogged, or tried it with air filter element removed. is it a good spark and not a weak spark. eg faulty electronic ignition unit. on mk5 escorts they had problems with soldering in the fuse box and many needed to have the electronic ignition rewired to bypass the fusebox to get a good solid stable voltage to the electronic ignition unit. I don't know if mk6 ever suffers the same. I might be tempted for the purpose of testing, to take a live feed straight from battery to the electronic ignition unit. is this 16 valve twin cam engine? i dont know what ignition system is like on these, can the timing be moved? I had 2 mk5 CVH engined cars and knew them well (how it all worked). I did have a mk6 1.6 16valve but it never went wrong so I never really learnt how it all worked. Air supply is not an issue. Yes it is a 16v. From what I understand, the ignition module is integrated into ECU and this then controls the ignition coil. I ordered an ignition coil and new cam, crank and MAF sensors (I know MAF does not cause an issue like this, the old one is just toast). I am going to receive them on tuesday and see if anything helps. If not, then I am starting to suspect the ECU itself since the ignition module is integrated in there so I might source a new ecu (seriously hope I dont have to do that because of the PATS stuff...)
