Broadband Deals (2?)

Featured Replies

Pretty sure I created a similar thread about 18 months ago before starting my current contract!

But are there any good deals about atm?

I currently pay £19.95 a month for 'Faster Fibre' which is around 35MB and has totally unlimited downloads.  I don't use the telephone and don't have any TV services so it's just Broadband.

I'm not finding any deals cheaper than about £25 a month now though, has BB really gone up that much in a year and a half!? 😮

I simply wouldn't go near them since the data leak they had a few years ago, plus we were with them about 7 years ago and as you say the customer service was abysmal.

have you checked the comparison websites?

Yep, that's where I'm getting the ~£25 from, was hoping for some underground deals on here... :ninja:

Cheapest major provider I could get was talk talk, £22.95. I renewed mine early when I saw the price drop.

That's what I've currently got, I can renew at £23.50 but that seems a big jump from £19.95.

Have just seen Vodafone are doing 63MB for £22.95 but that deal ends today and I won't rush in.  I'll keep an eye out for other 'faster' ones for the same price, but looks like I won't get any for £20 or less now.

PS - You're only 2 posts away from 10k!

I've never needed to contact them so far.  Switch was seamless, I'm not even sure it's dropped connection at all.  They're less sneaky than Sky that used to put my bill up at the end of contract without even an email reminder!

I've never really needed customer service from talk talk. Had broadband and mobile SIM for probably 6-7 years an never had any connection issues as such. Pay £3 a month for my mobile SIM .

Just long enough to appreciate the satisfaction of a perfect 10k!

There's always that awkward moment when I stop on a perfectly round mileage and don't want to drive any further and ruin it!

Nah, it's there all the time, just there's the odd occasion where something is actually perfect for a brief moment!

TalkTalk are offering new customers superfast (70mb) for £21.95 in some areas.

Re: customer services

They sent me an email offering an upgrade to superfast for £3.50 extra a month, so I agreed (14 day cooling off). Later read all the small print and they couldn't guarantee a faster speed than what I was getting already so cancelled through their website. Got no confirmation emails at any point although their website said I hadn't opted into the offer.

Low and behold I've now been billed for the upgrade, even though I cancelled it, and CS is unreachable due to the current pandemic. Worst still, they're offering the same broadband for £4 cheaper to new customers - I'd have rather stayed on my old contract!

Has anyone got Vodafone?  They're still doing thier weird deal where both 'fast' and 'faster' are the same price...why would anyone choose the slower one...?

I think I'm on the same as you, Talk Talk Faster Fibre 38MB, but I'm paying £27.50!!
My contract is up on the 25th and just received an email from them.

"You’re currently paying £27.50 a month. After this date your monthly charge will be £29.95"

It makes their new 18 Month plan of £23.50 look like a bargain,
but feels like I have a gun to my head because it will be £6.45 more if I don't commit to a new contract.

I can't see any better prices right now anyway, I've had no problem with the Broadband for the last 2 years.
Although I did have a problem with their Service last year after they suddenly tagged on £4 for TV which I didn't notice for 7 months,
They seemed to have a problem understanding I'd never asked for TV, I was transferred over from Tesco Broadband and the 'TV' was added a year later.
I went on a rant on their online Chat and vowed to change once my Contract was up lol.

Wow, looks like they saw you coming!

Mine was a Black Friday deal tbf, which tend to be better deals than normal.  Just a bit annoying it was an 18 month contract so ends half way between 2 Black Fridays!

Is the Vodafone Superfast 2 not available in your area?  I think I am going to go for that one myself.  Nearly double my current speed for 50p less a month than the 'retention deal' I've been offered.  But yes, as you say, we have to commit to something either way due to the way the prices jump at the end of the contract.

Yeh I can get it with a minimum of 55MB,
But I rarely max out my 38MB and I'm always watching YouTube on TV and have the PC downloading,
Unless I was saving more than a few quid I'm not one to change a product I'm happy with (ignoring their customer service lol).

Do any of you guys keep the same email address when you swop companies, or do you change to a new address ?  this has been a drawback for me to change supplier BT who seem a lot lot dearer than any of the above posts .

You need to set up email with someone other than your ISP.

I haven't used ISP email for yours, then you're not tied down and can move every 12-18 months if you wanted to.

Gmail, Hotmail/Outlook are the two big free ones, although especially with Gmail, free for a reason.

There are paid options, Proton Mail, for the privacy conscious (offers free but small amount of storage, good if you use something like iCloud to store messages instead)

I have a few different email addresses and use them for different things, depending on the "sensitivity" of what it is.

I keep mine because they aren't tied to my Broadband, I've not used a providers address for a very long time.
I use Google Gmail for social & random things and Microsoft Outlook for more private things like buying and accounts.

Sign up to those and slowly break away, you will be able to change to a cheaper plan without feeling trapped.
An added benefit is keeping all your Phone Contacts on a Google Account, every time I setup my phone I log in and all my contacts are imported.
And with both Google & Microsoft you get free online storage, so you can auto Back Up important things like documents from your PC to the Cloud.

Thanks Guys for that info I'll look into them options. Trouble is I just signed an 18 month deal  ( BT . HALO ) I .pay £68 month to include TV free calls etc
