casuk
I installed an android head unit a few weeks back, and this morning I plugged a new USB drive with some music on it and the engine light came on music played fine, went round the garage and the code was po42f, cleared the code and drove about 500meters, all was fine, Couldn't find the music through the head unit but files were there when I plugged bit into laptop, formatted the drive added music files and plugged it into the car USB, and engine light came back on, nothing on the drive back to the garage same code and wiped, took it a drive for 3/4 miles no lights, car seems fine, I did have the erg valve replaced on the 22nd but no lights untill I plugged in the USB drive Any thoughts on what it could be
Luke4efc
The drive has to be formatted in FAT32 usually. I don't see how that should trigger a fault code though... is there definitely nothing wrong with that new EGR valve? You should probably get your own code reader for £15 max to clear codes instead of going to the garage lol.
casuk
Yeah came formatted I redone it anyway, twice I plugged the drive in and twice the code came up, cleared and hasn't came back since the drives been removed, I think the egr is ok I wouldn't know really car seems fine He never charged me since they fitted it, I'm going buy one what one would you suggest for a 2009 fiesta
Luke4efc
Chances are it won't come formatted in FAT32, most new drives come in NTFS. FAT32 is only possible up to 32GB. If you have a laptop the get this Modified ELM327 from Tunnelrat. Coupled with Forscan, it'll read Ford specific codes that a normal reader won't and be it'll be able to program modules, injectors etc.
casuk
I formatted it to FAT32 for the the second attempt, its a 64gb drive i used, I'll have a look at that reader
isetta
I agree everyone should have their own code reader. I got the modified tunnel rat one for usb and used on laptop with free forscan . Then I bought the WiFi version to keep in glovebox to use with phone. Forscan is free for windows and about six quid for Apple/android app. Well worth having. Fat 32 can be Used up to 2 terabyte drives. For some reason windows disc management restricts to 32gb but other software can format much larger drives as fat32. But for some people fat32 is not ideal as no single file can exceed 4gb with fat32
