Whats missing?

Featured Replies

I know this sounds like a quiz 🙂

On my used Fiesta 2019 Vignale that has spacesaver wheel I noticed this on top off the sparewheel with a supposedly missing item next to the white shewee....ahem I mean funnel 🙂

could it be the locking wheel nut found in my glove compartment ? But surely the slot in the polystyrene is too big for that.

Standard procedure not to jack car up first and to have hand break on - you don't want to take the car for a stroll down the road with your wheel brace lol

It's a very odd shape Steve.   Hard to imagine what would fit in there.

Isn't it just Bob......hold on now we are going to get all sorts of funny answers 🙂

Tow eye removal tool?

Looking at the shape from my police background, I'd say it's probably a cosh.😁

The plot thickens...

It would seem it has previously gone un-noticed 🤔

Now the question is... What's in the bag? 😁

Thanks for posting Tom

As you say the plot thickens, so we have another one with an empty slot and one with the bag

Probably the red car owner had an empty slot and thought like me it was for the locking nut bag, and I guess most end up in the glove compartment after a service.

It's for the optional warning flare or 'PowerGlow' as Ford call it.  If you break down in a remote location with no phone signal, how else are you going to call the AA?  Obviously not much need for it in the UK but it comes as standard in larger, more rural countries.

Well, it's either that or a gherkin for if you get peckish while changing the wheel...

Thanks Tom, that solves that one then.  Its off to the dealer now for me to complain bitterly about the way they nicked my Gherkin before they sold the car to me 🙂 🙂 🙂

but seriously thanks, the powerflare idea makes sense, I seem to remember now a Volvo I had gave a similar battery powered flare device, and since Volvo are part of ford group and all that.

I guess seen as a lot are missing from cars, I bet the Ford dealers have an awesome bonfire night 🙂

Cheers, mystery solved

I was joking about the flare too lol...I have no idea what it's real purpose is I'm afraid!

Haha, Volvo did actually give me a device in a kit which included a really nice blue volvo case with torch, safety vest, warning triangle and a bright flare devive which you can use in an emergency

It's a good idea tbh...  Maybe I should patent it and sell it to Ford...

It's really bugging me, not knowing what goes in that slot though.  I've spent a considerable amount of time searching the internet, 7zap, ebay, ETIS etc trying to find it but nothing comes up at all...someone must know!!

Oh, all right then, It is for along threaded rod that screws into the hub so that when changing a flat tyre, an alloy wheel may be positioned without risk of falling off and getting damaged while you put a couple of bolts in to hold it.

I think it might be for a wheel trim remover

Unfortunately, that wouldn't fit any screws in a Fiesta.

Ford's have studs and nuts so the hub rod idea wouldn't work unfortunately.

Some of the bolts do have flathead sections across a Torx head.  Light clusters for example.  But I can't remember seeing a double ended driver in a Ford spare wheel kit, that's a VAG thing.

The foldable wheel brace has a trim removing section on it, so no need for a separate one of those either.

The mystery continues...

The handbook refers to a wheel trim remover.

Your vehicle jack, wheel brace, screw-in towing eye and wheel trim remover are located in the spare wheel well.

Thanks Tom, I've been looking at the electronic version of the handbook, but it didn't mention the wheel trim remover, guess because it is vignale which had the spare wheel as an option, and it has alloys

I guess all this stuff is new to me seen as I've been in the golden wheels club for 44 years and didn't used to give a damn about what came with those many cars.

After 44 years I've just seen how much fuel costs!!

Thanks Bob.

that will explain why its always missing....desirable for many other uses 🙂
