I think once it gets to around £2 the gov may step in and reduce the vat . But even that won't put much of a dent in the price compared to a few weeks ago.

That's why I'm trying to keep the mpg around this

I don't think this petition has aged very well. I think everyone with electric cars are laughing very hard at all of us right now...

Well, at least when we do full up, we can actually drive somewhere without worrying about having a multiple hour refueling exercise, in addition, to the price of electricity rising 70% in the last 12 weeks. TBH, not much 'laughing' going on at any quarter...

Also, have you seen the convoys of refugees escaping in cars in Ukraine, if they were battery cars, well...

But if you think about it really, that's not true is it?

Most electric cars now have a pretty good range and will take you where you need to go and back just fine. You only have to charge the car for 20 mins if you're doing a stupidly long trip, say you're going on holiday or visiting family 4 hours away..

Even then when you do need to stop on a trip like that, you're stopping anyway to get food, have a stretch etc. And even then the slow charging points are free anyway!

In terms of charging the car at home with electric going up, it would still only cost them 30 over the 70 people are paying now for fuel.

I do not refill my petrol car after every trip - battery owners invariably refill nightly, and in a long journey much anguish & planning is involved. In power cuts, that becomes impossible. In winter temperatures, battery cars are effected detrimentally because batteries hate the cold, losing huge chinks of range, in a proper car, range isn't effected by temperature. Look, you can look through as many rose tinted glasses as you want on battery cars, but currently, they are nowhere near as practical as a proper one. If you live in an urban area, your opinion is totally different to someone that lives in a rural area (like me...)

This video was posted by @Unofix sometime ago, ignore the 1st 8 minutes (just generic Tesla issues) to see why battery cars have such limitations...

You're thinking in a now scenario though.

Technology is ever evolving with batteries, by the time the ban is in place there will probably be a new capacitor that can better store at lower temperatures. But it's not that big of an issue that you're making it out to be.

Even cars suffer in the cold sometimes, starters not wanting to work, my MPG is lower to begin with as the car tries to warm up.

Also, you've clearly not seen the new Mustang, it's been extensively tested in the cold. Which takes me back to my point about newer cars being fine by the ban date.

Had to nip out today seems as my glasses decided to fall apart late in lastnight after 6 months of use 🙄we passed the garage that I mentioned yesterday en route and it's now sat at 175.9 per litre 😲

Think it will hit the 200 mark before the end of the month.

On the plus side we managed to get my glasses replaced (Frames only) after the cheeky s0ds tried to charge me another £150 and also got the Mrs glasses altered whilst there.

Big heavy Mk5 Mondeo 2.0 tdci. Nice and quiet b roads mainly to work and back. Nice steady drive observing the speed limits.

🤣🤣

Said if before, I should never have sold my Micra.🤣

It been said for years, mpg is not what you drive but how you drive.

I bet you're one of those people that drive like snails on the road haha

1 min to leave the line on a green light, gotta save that fuel.

Even then after driving like a granny and maxing at 15mph down a 70, I still wonder how on earth you managed that.

The 110 mpg was on a 150 mile motorway trip.

I certainly can't see the point of gunning it at the light, just to get to the next set 15 seconds before everyone else, nor do I see the point of driving down the m-way off slip road at 70 mph then having to slam the brakes on at the end. 🤣

When I worked my daily commute was 15 miles of m-way each way, at 70 it would take 12min 5o sec, yet at 60 saving a fortune in fuel would take 15min, the money saved was worth the 4 mins a day.

Guy here managed 2000 miles on total charging time of two hours. I doubt if most of us could be *rsed to go to the lengths he did, but impressive nonetheless.

It the same with the super save hyper-eco driving, who can really be bothered to turn the heating and radio off, never open the windows and so on,  but basic thing like don't carry a boot full of heavy crap you don't need and don't wear lead boots are easy ways to save fuel  .

I was wondering about this issue of ICE versus EV fuel cost. Obviously oil prices are shooting up in the current situation, but whichever way we generate electricity is unlikely to get any cheaper in the foreseeable future either. We've all seen our domestic charges rising even pre-Ukraine crisis which will put up the cost of home charging, and no doubt that will be reflected in public chargers also.

Probably the people who are really laughing are in nations like Norway which had the wisdom to put their North Sea gas/oil windfall into a sovereign wealth fund and invested in other forms of power generation.

Yep, our government has always been expert in squandering money! Though to be fair, it's not their money. It's like finding a £10 note on the pavement, a minor windfall that you just enjoy - the same way government treats our taxes...

I know exactly what you were doing - you're new here, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

I wonder if the salesman said the same thing as the poster signed for there Ecosport 🤔

Currently the diesel is costing me 10p a mile . An equivalant electeic car  at the new capped tarrif  rate ( home charging only ) can vary according to driving style but assume same carefull driving as mine should be 6p a mile.

So that's me a convert, save 4p a mile × the 8000 miles.

£320 saved. Result as long as I don't ever use a charger on the road.

That's me sold on an electric. Oh, anyone want to permanently lend me a few ££ to buy one ??

There's a few spend thifty with a wedge to lend on her I'm sure  ...... @stephenford

That'll give you even more range anxiety as you cut the range in half to get back home again 🤣 Still, worth it to save that £320, and of course, all those baby dolphins...

But I never see any baby dolphins to work and back!!

Oh, is that because I've left it to late to convert to electric. Damn.

If I convert to electric , will it stop badgers, pidgeons, pheasants, squirrels and deers from facing me off on my journey to work?

Not necessarily, but, it may stop the 'extinction rebellion' protester from gluing themselves to your bonnet 🤣

Not sure about on your journey to work, but I expect that most of them will be overtaking you on your journey home as you run out of battery 🤣
