2021 Fiesta StLine X 155 Mhev

Door edge protectors are part of the driver assistance pack on the Fiesta, not standard even on ST Line X.  They're really annoying though, make it sound like an old car as they rattle their way in or out and snap into place, not like the delicate 'doink' of opening/closing the door on most new cars.

The Scirocco is a bigger car and has independent rear suspension, it's basically a Golf underneath, the Fiesta is more like a Polo.

Ahh yeah good point!

  • I can't comment on the Fiesta but the width of those damn front pillars on the Focus particularly the drivers one almost had me running over another old dear today.

  • With the state of the roads atm it's very hard to tell if it's a speed bump or something/one else 😮

Lol, I was being lighthearted there, but I'm sure it does.😀 Can't help thinking though, it's a shame we can't have cars nowadays that meet crash resistance legislation, without compromising visib

I noticed on the posted video that the panel behind the Sync unit doesn't match the shiny carbon fibre effect dash trim. My MK8 Stlx does match and it finishes the dash off nicely, be a shame if they have used a cheap bit of plastic instead to save a few pennies.

I'm looking at an upgrade in the New Year so reading this thread with interest.

A few parts around the gear gator are now matt black plastic whereas they used to be chrome which makes it look cheaper.

I guess the MHEV system must add cost which they are trying to recoup elsewhere?

From what I've seen so far, there doesn't seem to be a great benefit in mpg or emissions from MHEV. I was wondering whether the various manufacturers had seen this as a way of dodging the ICE bans proposed by our and other governments.

Original wording on these, was something like "cars wholly powered by a petrol or diesel engine", which would have exempted any form of hybrid. It's now turned into hybrids being temporarily exempt only if they are capable of travelling a "significant distance" (yet to be defined) under non-ICE power which obviously rules out MHEV and probably self-charging hybrids also.

I think it's more for the current manufacturer emissions limits rather than the ICE ban.  A few CO2s saved here and there adds up over the whole range.  Otherwise they could've just MHEV'd the 1.5EB instead of dropping it entirely.  I also wonder how long they've been working on MHEV tech seeing as the ban and reduced limits seem to be coming in ever more quickly nowadays.

The WLTP MPG is surprisingly good though.  I'm not fussed about MPG this time so hadn't bothered looking but noticed yesterday that the 155ps in the Focus Active did 52-55mpg on the test.  I might have expected that from the old style test but not the newer one!

That's returning better than our diesel focus atm. With only doing short runs to work and back its hitting under 50mpg ( 49.4 to be exact).

For the 20 miles of B road and dual carriageway driving I did last night it averaged 36.9, not sure if thats good or not but it hasn't been on a decent run yet.

It is surprisingly close to the diesel figure.  WLTP figure for the 1.5 EcoBlue Active is 62.8MPG.  Only about 10% difference.  I've generally been averaging around 50mpg in diesels with more capacity but less power...so if I drop 10% and could average 45mpg in the 155ps MHEV I'd be happy with that.

Well I wouldn't say it's particularly good for a cruise, but it sounds like you were giving it some in Sport mode lol?  As you say, it's not run in yet either.  I wouldn't really expect less than 40mpg over a whole tankful myself but only time will tell!

Erm, I may have been driving exuberantly maybe lol Will see how it averages out over a full tank 🙂

It'll need a good few thousand under its belt too, to get loosened up and the best mpg.

Yes, "every little helps" as the supermarkets tell us!😀

MHEV by one name or another has been around for almost 20 years in some markets (we had the Honda CRZ sold here about 10 years ago, for instance) but has seemed to come to prominence in the last 3 or 4 years, particularly since Audi started pushing it.

Still seems odd that Ford haven't applied it to the 1.5 which has similar architecture to the revised 1.0 - it would please @Guy HeatonI'm sure!

I guess they're only trying to rival the Golf...  Although they've kept the 1.5 TSI for the Mk8, it's still only 130 or 150bhp.

The Corolla hybrid 2.0 is 197bhp.  It's definitely possible 😃

Just been reading about the possibility of a non-hybrid Corolla with the 275hp drivetrain from the GR Yaris. Now that does sound interesting!😀

Wife was driving home from work this evening, she put driver window up and down, now the window keeps dropping down slightly.

Putting both hands on the glass, inside and out, you can move the window up and down approx 10mm or so.

Contacted dealer when she got in and they said that they have had several of exactly the same issues already..... they are ringing back tomorrow to organise collection and leaving a courtesy car.

That's not good, hope they sort it for you.

That and a couple of other comments on this thread seem to suggest there's been some drop in build quality. Wondering if this latest car might have been built in a different plant from the earlier Mk 8s?

Could be a failure in the obstruction sensor.

We checked that today with dealer on the phone. The driver window went up and over a couple of minutes was slowly moving down until approx half open.. The window is now staying shut but they want to collect the car and take it in on Monday to check the windows as I can put both half way down , put one hand outside and one inside on the window and lift them up and down approx 20mm.

My 2019 doesn't do this.... But I am thinking this is normal on the new model with both Windows being the same.

Is the 2021 ST-Line X 155 MHEV worth buying and is it a good car?

I'm looking to upgrade from my 2017 MK7.5 ST-Line 140 to a 71 plate (late 2021 reg) ST-Line X Edition with 15k miles and lots of extras.

I've just picked one up so have only had it a couple of hours with a long drive home to test things.

Little things that have anoyed me so far : - no heated or power fold mirrors, No blind spot detection, no cd player, elec windows arent one shot, arm rest box is smaller than the 7.5. keyless entry 🍆

Apart from that its great ..... so far 😄

Not sure if that's a very late Mk 8 or early Mk 8.5 facelift, Nick?

Whatever, there are 2 main points imo. One is that you are moving from a Mk 7.5 to a Mk 8 which has a different "feel" in some ways, perhaps a bit more sophisticated but also (imo) a bit less fun to drive.

Second point as Mark has mentioned above is that the specs were progressively reduced, so you might find some stuff you would like is not there. Other things that disappeared included acoustic windscreen, sunglasses holder, leather handbrake grip, illuminated cup holders.

As was mentioned right at the start of the thread the 155 certainly has more pull than the 140, and the 6 speed box seems less prone to problems than the old 5 speed.

Best thing would be to try and get a decent test drive if you can.

Thanks Eric.
I'm off to see it and test drive it on Wednesday morning (tomorrow).
It was registered in late October 2021 and according to the listing, this one has the following with it being the ST-Line X Edition (5 door).

* Rear parking distance sensors                                                       * Driver and passenger lumbar support
* Selectable drive modes (eco, sport)                                              * EATC - climate control with AC
* Traffic sign recognition                                                                   * Leather gaiter
* Cornering front fog lights                                                                * Overhead console with sunglasses holder
* Auto high beam (which I'd switch off and use manual mode)      * Body coloured electric operated and heated door mirrors
* Electric front and rear windows                                                      * Powerfold door mirrors
* LED night signature to rear lights                                                   * Rain sensing wipers and auto dim rear view mirror
* Rear privacy glass                                                                           * B&O sound
* Sat Nav                                                                                            * Cruise control
* Quickclear windscreen (I assume rear also is it has the button) * 2 tone horn
* Agate black paint (premium paint)

No mention of acoustic windscreen (whatever that is).
I'm assuming this one has the later ecoboost engine with the cam chain rather than wetbelt.

Personally I need something that will happily cruise at 70 at under 3500 rpm up the A1 to the heritage railway where I volunteer a few times a week (cruise control also a bonus for that) and also be economical too as my current Mk7.5 goes through a full tank a week when doing 3 shifts per week (110 mile round trip each day). Also I want to keep the power so I can have a bit of fun with my right foot.

No, it won't have the acoustic windscreen (or "soundscreen".) My 18 plate did, my neighbours 21 plate doesn't, nor does mine.Supposed to cut noise.

It is the revised engine with chain (but still a belt for the oil pump).

You won't, it works really well

Sounds like it might be a late Mk 8 rather than an early Mk 8.5, then. The Mk 8.5 has fogs integrated with the headlights, rather than separate lamps. The spec reduction really got going after the facelift.

I was sceptical of those, but found, as you say, it worked really well on my 2018 ST-Line X.

I've not been as impressed with its operation on the matrix LEDs fitted to my current Mk 8.5, though.

It is a late Mk8 and not the 8.5 facelift. It does have lower front bumper fog lights.
Insurance seems to be in the same group (17E) so that's not bad.
The only things that would worry me are the regen thing where it feels lie it's braking and also the fact that it's keyless entry and start.
The iPad sync screen plonked on the dash and repositioning of the vents also might bother me too.
