I am tempted to got the android route on a new head unit, till i read about needing a data sim for them to operate at 100%. i thought i could link it to my phone and hotspot it.

hmmmmmmm , second thought city lol

Hi, Im not sure about this, The pumpkin doesn't need a sim, in fact, it has nowhere to put one unless I've missed a trick! Just had a look in the manual as well, no mention of a sim slot.

So far I only use bluetooth in normal use as I only need the phone call function from the phone. However, when I did connect as a hotspot from the phone to use google maps for example it has worked fine. It has also worked to play youtube vidz via the hotspot on my phone.

Let me know if you want me to test anything specific over the hotspot.

Cheers

Al

Now fella, you just hurt my feelings 🤣 I have a 'stuck on' DAB converter, a 'stuck on' TPMS monitor, a 'stuck on' SatNav, and a 'stuck on' phone grill holder!

  • Well, the GPS antenna is now in. I've decided not to bother with the camera as there's no way I'm making a hole in this car.  It's way too good for that, it really is like new.  The instruct

  • The problem with DAB is they have to lower bitrate as they cram too many stations in. The BBC stations are the only ones to use a high bitrate. Mine takes about 30-40 seconds to come on. It's not

I would recommend one of these:

Octacore CPU, 4gb of ram and 64gb of inbuilt storage.

I've been looking at this one:

I like the fact the screen is larger and it's integrated into the trim to give a more modern look/feel.

Bit like OP said about the Pumpkin, it's Chinese, but more expensive Chinese so should be ok - maybe!

That looks to be the exact same stereo as my link just with a different surround for your Smax

The 1s boot time is a blatant lie, that is the boot time if there's still power in the unit (i.e about 30 seconds after you've switched the ignition off)

Quick update on the 1 second boot time.

I've left the car for longer than 3 full days now and the unit does in fact start up within a second even after such a long rest. I last used the car on Tuesday afternoon and tested the reboot period on Saturday lunchtime which was almost 4 full days. 1 second from turning the key to seeing the home page and being able to hear radio 4 FM was all it took..

therefore the claim does appear to be accurate in the case of this particular example.

Maybe yours has a fault 🤔

I've just bought a Pumpkin unit and set it up today and noticed that sometimes when a door is opened or closed the side lights flick on and off, have you had this at all? Also, I find the ringtone on the 'Bluetooth' phone app to be annoying but can't find a way to change it.
