Speed limiters to be fitted on all new cars by 2022

Have I missed it and in fact they are already on new cars ?

Funnily enough, been on a VW Forum today and they were all doing their nuts about it, and wondering if the cars they had on order would come with it or not!

I'm still not clear if it's from the date the car was built, sold, or registered and I've seen various dates from July to September mentioned. This article states 6 July:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/news/mandatory-speed-limiters-on-uk-cars-from-2022

Whatever, with this, Covid, nett zero, blah blah, they've really put me off buying anything vaguely quick for my last new ICE car!😠

It will be on newly homologated vehicles this year . So any brand new models. Not facelifts as I'm led to believe. Ford are not launching any new cars at present so assume none will be fitted as standard as per the requirements.

Edit.

"From 6 July 2022, all newly launched cars will legally have to be fitted with a speed limiter"

And, assuming the Auto Trader article is correct, compulsory on cars already launched from 7 July 2024.

Edit: so thinking about that, If you ordered a new car now you'd still get stuck with a speed limiter as you won't get it for years anyway, due to chip shortages!😀

How will the plods give chase if speed limited like the crims

In the same way that military vehicles will not be produced using battery power, but proper engines! The law doesn't apply to government, or their agencies LOL

Police don't often 'give chase' at excessive speeds nowadays.  Just puts the crims under pressure and makes the whole situation more dangerous for all involved.

However, Police, Ambulance, etc will still be able to break speed limits on blue lights if necessary as above.

I did see on an episode of Cop Car Garage they fitted a new lightbar so that if they got zapped by a speed camera they were let off.
