Local mechanic or even body shop should be fine. How long have you had it, if you've not had it long then take it back and get them to sort it.

The tailgate won’t open more than 60% or the struts won’t open the hatch fully? Temperature will affect the struts and they are there to hold it open not move it. Any mechanic can look at them for you.

Did the brakes need replacing?

I am bemused at this comment. If the struts are not there to move the hatch to a fully open position, what else does it?

LOL, gravity works downwards, unless of course you have parked the car on it's roof so the tailgate can fall open 🤣

Hence my 😆

If you do have to get them replaced, which i think the dealer should pay for, then take a look at these Emerald struts It was the first thing i did when I got the MK8, no more putting down the shopping to open the boot.

so on the Australian models the gas struts keep the tailgate closed, now I understand !! 🤣

When it's really cold, the oil inside the strut will make the opening action sluggish, my struts (new last year) will still open 100% but will take much longer than on a hot sunny day... If only opening to 60%, time to get them replaced, they are a relatively cheap repair, and plenty of YouTubes show how easy they are to do.

What a spoiled car LOL I'm sitting here with coat & scarf on, it's a balmy 16c now in my living room! 🤣

Here's how the struts are replaced (same technique on most cars) If a garage does it for you, no more than 10 minute job, so you know you're not being ripped off!

All sorts of horror stories out there about Emerald Struts if you dig about- I wouldn't touch them.

I did read some of these but can't fault them yet and no bent bracket or any other problems.

I do know they have improved them what i read and being on a few months the pressure has got a lot less.

After trying a nice few i had to try these after hearing more good than bad.

I bought sgs engineering replacements last September, like for like, and they're way too hard

I just went for real cheapies on Ebay, less than £10 inc P&P! They were a bit lively for a couple of months, but have now settled into what an original strut does... (though I am, 'cheap' LOL)
