Not knowing what the current is for your seats, my suggestion would be to use a 7.5A for each seat.

Right, bed time !

Alright cheers mate.

Sorry to keep you all awake 😂

I think that's also a symptom of leaving the seat heater on too long...

Spot on, cheers for all of the help, was quite easy to wire up, considering this is the first time I have dealt with wiring something I'm quite proud of myself 😂 couldn't have done it without the help

  • It's the same switch that was used in the 2012 model Transits. When pressed in the seats are off and the switch is less likely to be knocked. When the seats are on the button sticks out to draw a

Just a quick one, I have been looking at how I'm going to run the wires and where to ground it. I have found a bolt that secures the handbrake assembly down. Will this be a good ground?

Only thing is that the stud is painted black from factory but there is bare metal at the bottom with a bare metal nut

I think I have found a better ground, it's a factory ground point so I will ground it too that instead 😁

Am I definitely alright to use 14 gauge wire. The wires that come from the heated seat are smaller so about 18 gauge. So I will be connecting 14 and 18 gauge wires together.

Will this be alright because surely the seat draws whatever it needs which is what the Ford wiring was designed for so the 14 gauge wire is fine to use? Would it only be dangerous if it was the other way round running 18 gauge from a 14 gauge wire if that makes sense?

Thanks

Got it all wired up, checked it all with a multimeter and there is 14.2 volts at the heated seat plug under the seat but no heat coming from the heated seat. Does this mean the heating element is knackered?

Possibly broken but more likely you have a wiring problem. So are both seats not working ?

Measure the resistance of the heating pad (un-plug them first). Check both of them are they the same ? What resistance value do you get ?

I checked for voltage and was getting 14.2 from the plug. The Continuity is all good aswell. Will check the resistance later

Yeah both seats don't seem to be heating. I have purchased some heating pads so I'm going to strip the seat and put them in, I will put the button on the centre console.

Only cost £30 so worth a try

Please read above

Measure the resistance of the heating pad, NOT the voltage from your car. I do not doubt that you have a voltage of 14.2 but if the heating pad is open circuit then it's not going to get warm.

It's reading this for both seats?

Your meter is on the wrong resistance range. Change the dial to the '200' ohm setting.

Then test your meter by putting the leads together and expect to get a reading of less than 1.0 ohm

Then remeasure the resistance of the heating pad. I don't know what the value will be but I expect anything from 5 to 100 ohms

Looks like it already is, to me?

How hot are the seats meant to get, I got a digital thermometer on it and the base is showing around 30 degrees celcius and the side bolts are around 25 degrees. Does this mean it's working? Maybe I will feel the heat better when it's colder?

Before the edit it was on the 2M ohm scale.

Yes they are working 😀

They will get hotter when you are sitting in them.

Yeah sorry about that, I realised I had it on the wrong setting on the multimeter so changed the photo. My fault 😂

Cheers mate, just a quick one, I have noticed that the button for heated seats works back to front. So if I press the button in, it deactivates the heated seats. So when the button is not pressed that's when the seats heat up. Does that sound right? 😂

Yes that is Correct 👍

Lol, just as well @unofix knew the answer - just glancing at the the owners handbook online which  is not a lot of help with that one!😀

Very strange how the switch seems to be the opposite of what you would expect, but atleast it's all working 😁😂 is it worth me making a tutorial on here about wiring the heated seats up?
