HELP I HAVE A LEAK!!

Featured Replies

Help

I have a 2022 focus and it has a real bad leak

its running along the windscreen run off into the passenger wing and into the car through the glove box and the bonnet pull!!

The inner wing had a plastic bag double sided taped into inner wing and full of foam that had split and gone all over the  engine bay.!

Ford have told me it’s due to a rodent.!!

and not covered by warranty!!

how can I correct this please any ideas welcome

So regardless of whether or not you car is a 2020 or as your profile says 2022 the car would normally be covered by the manufactures warranty.

If as your dealer claims the damage has been caused by a rodent then of course you can hardly expect Ford to pay for the repairs.

Which brings us to the repair. Regardless of who is paying, you need a garage to repair the car and stop the leak, which by the sounds of it is going to be paid for by you.

Book the car in to a dealership and get an estimate to have the repair work done. Then it's up to you if you get it fixed or live with the water.

Sorry, my mistake with year of car! To me it’s brand new and o don’t expect a leak as bad as it is.!

My 1st ford! And I’m not impressed!

would like to know why it’s leaking so bad? I don’t believe it’s a rodent

Never  had this problem on any make of car I’ve owned  before

Sounds like the 'bin bag' in the wing that shocked many of us when we first saw it on the Mk4 isn't up to the job after all!

You're in a difficult situation though...  So far I haven't heard of any others splitting, which does suggest an external issue like pest damage.

Take it to a different Ford dealer (not one from the same group). Do not say that it has already been looked at. Tell them as little as possible and ask them to take a look at this problem you have with water.

If they report back the finding that the damage has been caused by a rodent then you have to accept that is probably true. You can hardly hold that against Ford.

You are going to need it repaired as quick as possible because behind the glove box is the fusebox but far more importantly the Body Control Module (BCM) which hates getting wet and will cause you major problems if that fails.

It is of course possible that the drip tray is missing, which I know did happen to models after 2019. Here are the photos of my car with the drip trays, and some with the passenger side tray removed. Does your car look like these photos ?

Thanks for that x

Exactly the same run offs but it has no drip tray? What is that an optional extra.?

the drip tray is defo missing on mine x

The drip trays (which in my opinion and most others is critical to stop water running down the side of the inner wing) were omitted for a time by Ford. Either as a cost cutting exercise or because they couldn't get them.

I remember someone else complaining about a water leak back in 2020 which is why I took photos of my 2019 model.

Very quick and easy to fit if you can get them, just one spring clip holds each of them in place

Also just remembered that the same person who had the leak and the missing drip trays, was also missing a very large rubber grommet in the inner wing between the inside of the car and the outside.

I've tried to find the old post but so far no good. I will keep looking

@unofix You seem to have a nice piece of carpet type waterproofing instead of the budget bin bag too?

This is mine...

Oh I have a plastic bin bag full of what seems like expanding foam under the 'nice piece' of carpet.

On mine and also probably on yours the back up sounder for the car alarm is in with all that lot getting quite wet I should think.

Does any1 know if any part numbers.? For the baggy.? 😂 and the drip tray.?

how can they get away with selling cars like this… literally dripping over parts 😞 like you say important electrical parts..!

surly this is something that needs a re call ?

Tbf we don't know the sounder is there on the later cars, they probably left that out to save costs too... :whistling:

Sadly the parts catalogue we usually use (7Zap) doesn't cover the Mk4 Focus.

Well the numbers I have for the two trays are as follows:

Drivers side (RH)    JX7B-A22476-A

Passenger side (LH)     JX7B-A02477-A

These are not the normal Ford part number but it may be possible to work back from them.

Each side needs one small metal clip and one plastic plug.

Just found these on eBay, they are for the Focus MK3 / MK3.5 - definitely will not fit MK4.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272837956468

They are being sold by a company who specialise in breaking up Ford Focus, might be worth giving them a call

Even if it was the passenger side I think you are looking at the part that connects to the drip tray, not the actual drip tray itself

Edit: just noticed its both parts

Well found !!! 😀

It takes less than a minute to fit. I see they have the clip with them. There should also be a small plastic plug/bung to help hold them in place but you will be able to get something to do the job.

I would buy both sides if you can before the drivers side also leaks

As far as I can tell it's only purpose is sound deadening. I've never been able to get mine out, I can move it about a bit but I suspect that an empty plastic bin bag is pushed in to the wing and then filled with expanding foam. Hence the reason I can't pull it out. The lack of it possibly might increase a bit of noise but I don't expect by much.

Maybe @iantt knows a bit more about the bin bag with the foam ?

It’s foam pieces.((( it was everywhere in the engine bay. 😞 like an old sofa filling.!!! stuck down with double sided tape/! Never gonna last long.!

Are Ford actually having a laugh.!!

This car cost me a lot of money.. 😞 and I find this unacceptable 😠 1B056403-1376-4404-9700-0E917FBD741C.jpeg.718b02f27ea742076153dcfc1e5bb13f.jpeg

That does look like rodent damage. I don't think mine is in bits like that on my 2019 model although I do have the gutters on mine so maybe things have changed.
