Mk4 Frozen screenwash nozzles

No. Just penny pinching !!

Heated jets do exist for the Mk4, it's just you have to be Royalty to get them 🤣

The Mk4 did have then but it was dropped to save money when a lot of other things were dropped.

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike the Mk4? :whistling:

On a serious note though, one of the main reasons for me choosing another Ford was the quickclear windscreen.  Didn't realise they'd dropped the heated jets!

I'm not sure buying decent screenwash is the answer either.  Damp will get into/over the nozzle outlets from outside as it does with the rest of the car exterior.  I have had frozen nozzles on the Golf a couple of times using neat Halfords screenwash.

  • that would be because there's no heated eyelids on the Cambridgeshire model 🤣

  • LONG LIVE THE 70'S!!!

  • You'll need to remove a few of the clips that hold the sound deadening on the underside of the Bonnet and pull it back to be able to see the jets.

No, it was the berry one in fairness.  But that's claimed as -10c and it was only about -2 at the time.

I'm old enough to remember 1963

I was commuting 20 miles each way on a motorbike. The pain when my hands were thawing out was excruciating.

I've ridden in snow , ice and freezing fog. The fog was the worst as it stuck to my visor and had to keep scrapping off with my glove while riding along .

And the hands thawing were painfull !!!

Just back from the dealership, confirmed no heated jet nozzles on my mk4 . They’ve clearly been dropped for cost cutting reasons which is mad cause Ford Focus  mk3 had them, can buy them direct from Ford… £25. smh

if earlier mk4s had them then buying them on eBay and fitting them shouldn’t be a problem 🧐. I can’t as it’s motability rules .. no modifications at all.
I think the last 3 winters haven’t been cold enough to be a problem. Why I’ve not noticed before

The bad news is that the wiring is not there for them, at least not on my car unless it is taped up somewhere that I did not look. I only took one side off.

Seems daft on Fords behalf to remove a fairly cheap part that’s very useful.

we get the same cars as go to Australia, they’re not needing heated jets. 🧐 Scandinavia will definitely need them on theirs. On the continent in general tend to have higher spec cars than rip off Britain.

So, how do we tell if the washers are heated or not ?

If they're heated, water will squirt out of them when it's well below freezing...

Apart from the obvious I don’t know! Lady at the dealership put my reg/vin number into her computer, took a few minutes but gave me a definite answer. We did have very mild winters last few years……

Open the bonnet and have a look.  Heated washers have a wire going to them.

Yep I couldn’t see an obvious or easy way to see

Just checked ETIS - My Active Vignale doesn't have them.

In the original 2018 brochure that I still have and was not updated until a long time after the downgrades if it was ever updated, everything above the Style had them.

The Style did not have a Heated Windscreen either.

Not a good suggestion at the moment, but I got some heated jets and some of the loom from a scrappy.  Finding a suitable way to supply them with an under the bonnet switched 12V seems to get more difficult the newer the car.

I do keep a spray full of concentrated washer fluid (along with the salt and shovel in the boot) in the car just in case.

I remember a dreadful drive up the then A74 in a Mk1 Escort where the conditions were such that the wipers became a bar of ice scraping across the screen.  Stopping about every 20miles to get the ice of the blades.

Happy Xmas......

Aye, an optional extra!

I've had that too. On one occasion because I couldn't see I flipped my visor up and then my eyelids started to freeze shut when I blinked. That was really scary!

Well, I put the heated screens on this morning and after the ice had melted I tried the washer jets and errr NO, no water 😄 but it was minus 7 and yes I'm still in shorts 😆

It might be cheap to you but it will cost Ford millions.
