Is there any way to reinstall the large map update? The one before the Map_49418_Update?

  • Even when Ford do release map updates they are always from 12 months earlier.    If you want up to date maps then use CarPlay or android auto.

I still have this F11 on my USB pen drive if anyone wants it.

<p:OTAModuleSnapShot xsi:schemaLocation="urn:ford/Vehicle/Module/Information/v3.0 ModuleSnapshot.xsd" version="2023-02-18"

It's what I last installed and seems to be working fine. I can upload on to my Google drive if it's needed.

Yes I have the same issue, since applying the update 49418 my voice guidance is hit & miss, some of the speech is broken. Hopefully a fix will appear soon.

The 49kb update doesn’t install anything. Have you tried rebooting the apim?

the APIM ??, do you mean a full shut down & reboot by switching off and full shutdown with engine off?

From the Ford website:

Before performing a SYNC 3 master reset, try a system reset to restore functionality. The system reset does not delete any data you have stored.

Performing a System Reset

  1. Press and hold the Seek up and the audio unit Power buttons simultaneously until the screen goes black.
  2. Wait for the system reset to complete.
  3. Press the audio unit Power button to switch the system on.

If the system reset does not resolve the issue, continue with a master reset.

Performing a Master Reset

On your vehicle's SYNC screen:

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Choose General.
  3. Scroll down and press Master Reset. A message confirming that all system settings will be erased and reset to factory defaults will appear.
  4. Press Continue. A "Resetting to factory defaults" message will appear, the system will turn off, and the screen will go blank. It may take a few minutes for the system to reset and resume normal operation.

Where you will be ignored.....

  • Author

I have raised this Ford on Twitter - they have asked for a direct mail with details of the problem, I have sent it (late Friday afternoon) - I'll let you know if anything happens.

I'm not holding my breath.....

Following on from my post on May 20th on page 1 of this thread, , where I'd opened a case with Ford [email protected]

I've been assured that 'higher management' are aware of the issues with the map update web pages ie downloading the interrogator package (49K), with a name  including the word map & no adequate explanation on the web page informing the user why they are doing this.

The response from the the technical team was 'This is to gain the relevant latest information from the SYNC unit.'

Mmmmm. I'd sent a logfile when I last upgraded SYNC (13 May 2023). Also I've left on Automatic Updates over WIFI and can see that the vehicle checks in periodically - so they ought to have that info from two sources already !

The technical department have confirmed that I am on the latest SYNC for my vehicle & F11 maps - and once an update becomes available - it will show. They also seem to indicate that the logfile request can be ignored - a bit of a contradiction in here somewhere !

I've pointed out that this situation creates serious unnecessary grief for the customer & for Ford support. It should be simple to fix/mitigate (at least change the words on the web page !)

For the inconvenience I have experienced Ford customer relationship centre offered me a goodwill payment - which I accepted & have just received.

Just to update the thread; as expected no further response from Ford since I escalated 2 weeks ago.

The maps update is still not updated on my portal.

However, satnav voice is now fixed and speaking at me normally! No more breakups / glitching. I did not do anything to fix it, no system reset. No updates applied unless it was a silent OTA.

Back to waiting for genuine maps F12 like everybody else.

On the subject of maps - when and where are the 3d buildings expected to appear? I've seen them once so far in Hove, I live just within the M25 and never see anything, just a flat map.

Or is this just because I'm on an older APIM?

They work in Manchester city centre, but as soon as you move out it's back to flat maps, so I guess it's only major cities for how.  Personally I see little, if any advantage in them.

How do you know which APIM you are on?

Well you could simply check with FORScan but I remember you don't like wasting time using that.

Totally taking comments right out of context from a post months ago.

Pleased to report that I just tried the Ford SYNC website today (been 1 month since I raised the issue) and I've downloaded Map_8580509305_Update.zip @ 7.92 GB

I will do the update manually, just to close on this project to be honest. Send her off as the perfect specimen to a very lucky future owner!

It's only nav voice files and most people get an error trying to install it. I wouldn't even bother wasting time on it if you are selling it.

Id raise the file you have now downloaded as your next 'issue' - as the file will not install.

Yikes! Okay guys, thanks for the heads up! hmmm it just doesn't install? Maybe I shouldn't make more work for myself and quit while I'm ahead.

Confirming that this is the case for me too.

Sync aborts the installation with error code mem_err01.

I have tried to re-download the zip file, changed usb sitck, but to no avail.

I also had the issue mentioned with the log file of the previous tiny update.

Cool, trying that now. Says updating software at top of screen in car. Fingers crossed it works

I always get this mem 01 code. Had it for over 12 months and just can't sort.

Something to do with the memory or not having enough space. Tried all sorts and now had to resort to using a cable with Android Auto.

With rumours of Ford potentially not allowing Android Auto or Apple Carplay in the future, as they want you to invest in their paid ecosystem, this isn't a great sign.

Thank you for your reply.

I never had an error before, let alone a mem_err01. Of course, there is a first time for everything...

That being said, the zip extraction was correct, the same stands for the file structure inside the USB, as always.

Inside file "autoinstall.lst" there was:

Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

I have changed it, according to a previous one, to:

Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include,Transaction

But it made no difference.

I wonder what is the error that other people get when they fail to install this update.

It's the same, mem_err01

It means there is not enough space to extract all the files it is trying to install.

But again, it's not worth the hassle of updating, you're unlikely to be able to notice any difference just from the nav voice files. I'm waiting for Ford to release something else, such as F12 maps or a new system software version.

I thought that this might be the first update for the F12 maps system, ie. doing the map voice update first and then the maps files in the download after.

(Although I have noticed that the voice files in the Ford download are version H, but the latest leaked F12 map voice files are version K)

Suppose we will have to sit and wait for Ford to get their @rse in gear.
