Fiesta 1.0 100ps remap. Is it safe? Recommendations?

Featured Replies

A quick google search bought up a place called celtic tuning which quotes a stage 1 remap of 158ps. That seems a bit high no? Ive done a bit of research on this and found out that the 100ps has a different head gasket and turbo alloy than other power levels of the fiesta so I as wondering if the 100ps can handle it. My car has a brand new ford engine in if that makes any difference. Also montune not offering a warrenty friendly map for the 100ps rings some alarm bells as there must be a reason for that. I probobly wouldnt be pushing the car that often anyway I just like the extra power there for when I want it and I have seen other people have remaps on this car and have been fine but those threads are pretty old so I thought id ask here just for some more up to date advice.

Someone will probably chime in with the specifics but I thought the 140ps variant had a different head. Needless to say adding that much extra power wouldn’t be something I’d do. Check other remap places to see where they settle on power figures then decide off of that, I wouldn’t do anything massive with a generic map.

Yeah I am not sure on specifics and I think it changed at some point to what stuff is on what power level. Pumaspeed give up to 150hp stage 1 and apparently  have all the ford OE saftey features still included or 160hp with 99ron fuel so thats around the same. I cant find the bluefin one that some people talk about but I think that was around 140.

Found it, bluefin is 153hp and you do it yourself by plugging in the powergate unit.

Superchips who use Powergate too list our 100ps 2018 Fiesta as only going to 138 so I’m surprised it’d take more without more modifications.

Celtic have been around a long time.  If that particular map wasn't safe, I'm sure we'd have heard about it by now.

The 1.0EB engine can take more power quite well.  The cooling system and wet-belts are still just as flawed regardless of whether it's kept standard or boosted a bit.  In the early days, re-mappers did pop a few of these by pushing too far, but that's how they find the limits, I haven't heard of any failing due to a remap for years now.

@iantt Had the Bluefin on his 99ps for a few years iirc.

I believe Superchips base their claims on "before" and "after" dyno runs and it appears that the Mk 7 they used was a good 'un (already 14 bhp up on Ford's claim even before remap) compared to the Mk 8 test car. The headline bhp figures can look "sexy" but more importantly in both cases the torque figure shows a healthy increase of 70+ Nm

Manufacturers

Base BHP & Torque

BHP 99.00bhp
TORQUE 170.00Nm

POWER BHP

Actual Tested

ORIGINAL 112.00bhp
MODIFIED 153.00bhp
DIFFERENCE +41.00bhp

TORQUE NM

Actual Tested

ORIGINAL 170.00Nm
MODIFIED 245.00Nm
DIFFERENCE +75.00

Alright thanks. Guess I masewell go for it then if the cooling system and the belt are more likley to go before the map would even do anything anyway haha. But being a fresh engine I'm hoping the belt lasts a long time. I guess the only other thing is if the extra power from the map it kills the gearbox but Im guessing you could avoid any gearbox damage by just not pushing 1st and mabye 2nd gear too hard.

Yes, unfortunately there does seem to be a history of the 5 speed box wilting, even on a standard 140, so I'd take it easy through first and second as you suggest.

The 6 speed in the Mk 8 is supposedly stronger, but a few cases of issues with that seem to be emerging now. Whatever, I always treated mine with care in first and second.

There is a very interesting thread on here by @Eatonm112 on doing a conversion to a stronger Focus 6 speed, Pumaspeed also offer a similar conversion.

I never ended up remapping the car due to some circumstance at the time but I am thinking about it again and I found one from pumaspeed who claim its super safe and have all the Ford OE built in safety features still included. Does this mean it would still have a torque limit on 1st gear protecting the gearbox? I'd assume a map from pumaspeed wouldnt go around blowing gearboxes and I'd issues with the gearbox are well known by now?  https://pumaspeed.co.uk/product-MAXD-Flash-Programmer---Fiesta-Mk7-10l-Stage-1R_17817.jsp
