Wet belt replacement help!

Featured Replies

Apologies for the hijack of the thread but mine doesn't seem to be getting any traction, but that is probs due to the title.
When I am asking for quotes I want to make sure that everything that is supposed to be done, gets done. So after looking around and doing some research, I've made a list of what people say needs to be done and just want to double check on here too.

I'll just make a list but please correct me if I have missed something and also named something wrong. It would be highly appreciated 🙏

My advice is to get it to an Ecoboost specialist for a diagnostic and then see what you want to do. There are two that I'm aware of, Ecopro in Lincoln and North West Engines in Rochdale. I h

Thanks guys - great feedback

I checked with the garage and they were indeed intending to change the oil pump belt

Hello,

Just thought I'd provide an update in case anyone finds it useful. Had the job completed - *touch wood* - all seems fine about 6 weeks on. The garage did a great job.

I thought - for the sake of a couple of emails - I'd apply to that Ecoboost goodwill support as I had FSH etc. To cut a long story short - your engine has to fail to be eligible! If you take pre-emptive action to avoid a potential catastrophe then that's on you. It's like a food recall but you have to have eaten the food and become ill in order to get your money back 😆

That's good news! Don't think you mentioned the garage in your earlier post? Might help others in your area. Was it: https://www.cedargarage.co.uk/project/ford-ecoboost-wet-belt-replacement/

I think that's logical, tbh.

That's the garage I took it to. Hit and miss with them. As the mega fuse mistakenly blew the work took longer than booked, gave me a free courtesy car until fixed, and my final invoice was twice as long;

While I can't fault the timing belt job and the car runs well, there was about £1000 worth of extras added to the invoice the booking system tried to not let me avoid including repairs of a "weeping rear suspension", amongst other issues which my local garage later confirmed to be false.

I think I paid the extra £200 for the thermostat housing replacement (likely also a rip off given the engine was probably already out!) I just think they were trying to recoup the 2 days of extra labour.

It was https://stanfordgarage.wixsite.com/stanfordgarage in Brighton - as above, they were very good.

I had the - unconnected in the end - engine light come on a day or two afterwards and they took it straight back in to diagnose

Bought my Fiesta Ecoboost 2 years ago, 2015 plate, only have learnt the wet belt and the so called 'ecoboom' in recent MOT. Mine is 92K now and Im uncomfortable every time driving it in thinking that there is a wet rubber belt in hot oil ........

It was so shocking to me but what can I do.

Done 50k on my 2013 and no problems whatsoever. Had the belt changed last year. As long as they use the right oil it should be fine . If you have service history you should see if it was changed . I think it's well due if it hasn't already been done.

Sounds as if your car has been well looked after up till now if it has done 92k without issues, but now it is due it's scheduled cambelt change at 10 years (unless you can find proof it's been done) as Matt mentions.

I don't think we've seen any specific recommendations near Reading on here, as yet, though there are local Ford dealers of course. Presumably your usual service/ MoT garage doesn't offer this.

Really interesting thread. My son is buying a used focus, was aware the belt will need to be replaced (and I'm paying for it!)

Can anyone recommend someone in East London or Essex area. I did get a quote from a local ford dealership £2540 didn't release it was so expensive when I agreed to help him out.

I've just googled it for you and found these guys...???

Ok so just had sons Focus wet belt changed (new water pump, pulleys and all the other valves etc etc plus new NGK plugs). Cost in total was £840 in total. Was able to drop of at his place on Sunday and was ready for pick up on Tuesday. Excellent communications by Matt, kept me up to date, sent whats app videos of what he did, gave me back old parts. Didn't even have to chase him up. So far i can't fault him! Please use him if near by for you, always happy to give my money to the small guy.

Hope this helps someone out

My God !!!

Poor bloke is working for free. That is one of the cheapest prices seen, and it included new plugs. I hope you gave him a good tip 😉

If nothing else is required, special offer price on the website is only £650 for just the belts and associated work!

If you have the time I'd recommend you do a search for Ecoboost problems on the Forum and read the many threads. The 1.0L Ecoboost is not one of Fords finest moments. Unless the service requirements are strictly adhered to, using the specified oil and avoiding engine flushes, the wetbelt will degrade and block the oil pump strainer. At that point it's game over.

You speak of 'not one of Ford's finest moments' However, not just one, but most Ford models, with the exception of all-electric and some hybrid/plug-in hybrid versions, offer EcoBoost engines. This includes popular models like the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Kuga, and EcoSport, as well as larger vehicles like the F-150, Explorer, and Expedition.
