Keys

Featured Replies

Hi

Had anyone had issues with MK2 keys.

The remote only one button would work, I've changed the battery's a few times and took it to a shop for a good battery replacement and clean and still the same just the one button works, I've took off the car battery for a hour hope for some kind of reset and was still the same.

Now none of the key buttons work but I can still unlock the car with it manually still and start the car with same key, but none of the buttons work anymore.

Any help guys.

Thanks

EDIT

Aahhh..., just noticed you only have one original key with no remote function. Best bet is to seek out a local independent auto locksmith who should be able to help.

I have one remote key and one normal key.

The remote key none of the buttons work now, I took it to timpsons and they said only the unlock was working on it and it cost over 200 pound for a circuit board on the key.  Now nothing works on it.

I've tried the ignition 4 times switch in 6 seconds and I get the bleep but then the 3 button remote key doesn't send anything back to program it.

Oh God !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙁

I'm sure that @StephenFord bought a remote key online for not much money.

I have 2 keys, one 3 button remote key not working and 1 manual key.

I have called a independent locksmith and they said 150 for a new key or 90 for a repair.

That sounds about right.

Ford dealers charge about £199+VAT for a genuine key including programming.

I've lost count of the times on this forum I have advised folk NOT to go to Timpsons! They're OK if you need a front door Yale key cut, but otherwise...

I also wondered why on earth your 'independent' locksmith would charge so much, then I saw you lived in London LOL Normal folk like me have access to a locksmith that can supply & program a remote key for about £70...

Or a new heel on your stilettos.

Actually, your car is of a vintage that ForScan may work - @unofix should be back shortly to advise...

Yes, FORScan works for vehicle key programming on most Fords before 2013.

Help guys.

I brought cheap key off the net only cost like 20 quid, I thought about just swapping over the circuit boards or just the lower key blade half.  I got the 3 button unlock feature to work using ignition switch on/off 4 times trick but won't start the car.....

How can I solve this.

Thanks guys for the help

You need to swap the immobiliser chip from the old case to the new.  It's a tiny piece of black plastic.  Easy to miss...or drop...

As said before, without all the original keys, you will not be able to program your new fob to deactivate the PAT (immobiliser) system. Your only real solution is to seek the service of a local independent auto locksmith who will have the equipment/software to get it up &running. The downside is that many won't be interested of doing it to a 3rd party fob that they have not supplied.

I personally am unsure if ForScan can do it, someone proper should be along soon...

I have the original remote key(buttons not working) and the manual key. Only 2 keys are programmed with the vehicle I found that out on forscan.

U can programme the remote buttons easy but the the immobilizer.

I may just keep the new fob key for the buttons just keep the top bit without the blade and my other remote key with knackered buttons to start car.

This is the procedure to program an additional key if you have original keyes. If it doesn't work, Tom's solution is sound...

So am I reading this correctly u can programme the immobilizer with a new key fob if you got the 2 original keys by going through the ignition thru key 1, then key 2, then the new key.  You can't go from original key remote one, skip manual key 2 and onto new fob 3.

Does it work on MK2 05 focus. Yeah getting a on bit the car.

Sorry guys I do appreciate your help all of you been brill.

Awesome guys success

Forscan let me program a key to my car now I have 3 keys stored, my original 3 button non working one, my manual key, and my new key.

The new key I brought online I just swapped over the key blade as same shape 3 buttons style and reprogrammed and paired up with immobilizer.

So I got new 3 button top half and a my original lower key blade half.

It's all running.

Like to say big thank you to all that's helped me in this forum post, cheers guys

That's great news. If you want to leave a legacy, you should jot down a few notes on how you got ForScan to program, & post it here. So the next guy looking the same info can benefit... 👍

Something gone wrong as soon as I switched the car engine off from inside it locks itself before I got out.

What's happened.

That's a very odd behaviour. On twisting the key fob to 'off' when in the ignition, is it possible that the new lock button is so sensitive that you accidentally pressed it at the same time? Other than that, that issue is way above my pay grade...
