I'm sure they will - "coupe"  versions of SUVs seem to be quite popular for reasons which escape me.

From what I've seen so far, the Explorer on which it's based (and which is itself based on the VW ID4) is quite a decent electric SUV for those who want such a thing, though the market is quite crowded already.

A farmer friend had an Explorer some years back, and that was a big 4x4, so using the Explorer name for an SUV is not too bad, I suppose, but Capri for this?

The 1969 - 86 version which most of us remember was not the first to use the name of course:

 🤢 🤢  🤮 🤮

I'm not the only one then who thinks what I'm thinking, was similar when ford did the 'new' escort, nothing like the older Escorts, it never really made it over here and i even looked upon on a few years back, shameful infact.

Is that the Chinese market car that was based on the Focus saloon?

You could now get your name down for the real thing:

Yep Chinese crappadappa of a thing, saw a bronze/brown one in a ford dealership in lincolnshire, never laughed so much in my life.

Heard about the Boreham escort but no doubt it'll be a full blown rally car, I'd like to see something like a four door 1300e ford door myself.

Yes, I imagine it'll be something like the MST version, at a similar price......

They did the same with the Mustang, yuk, that's not a Capri.

cant be any worse that the 3.0 litre capri i had back in the day, am sure its name was christine and wanted to kill me. Had to put my lifting weights in the boot to calm down its tail happiness.

But at the end of the day it was still a ''Capri'' and not this mess of a 4x4 - SUV - Off roading looking piece of 💩 that they've decided to call it a Capri 🙄

Years ago I knew of a guy who had a white Tickford Capri, thought it looked awesome then one day saw it on a trailer bent in half and the owner saying that nearly killed him.

There was one in Belfast years ago, done in 'brooklands' green on a 2.8i version. Looked the doggies - never saw it again...

Do you know who stole it?😀

Just to go back to Ian's original post, if that is an actual image, I don't think it's a bad looking car for anyone who wants that sort of thing (not us, obviously!)

It just seems a bit odd to re-use a name from the past on a completely different sort of vehicle, particularly as Ford seem to be trying to bin the past (Fiesta, Focus, etc) as fast as possible and relaunch themselves as an electric only brand, at least in Europe.

I thought Ford were going to build a Capri that looked a lot like one, where has that gone now?

It does. I walked past one of those the other day and had to do a double take as I'd read it's "small" which it wasn't imo, though again, not a bad looking thing if that's your cup of (Chinese) tea.

I was peering in at the much criticised "controls" (everything on a touchscreen, basically) and hope Ford make a better stab at that.

Sadiq Khan said No !!

and Sir Flip Flop said OK I'll ban it 👍

Caught these 2 at a classic car show couple of years back. The light green one had some sort of history linking it to Aston Martin

I totally agree, Vauxhall bought out a new Viva, it looked nothing like a Viva, don't be lazy and give them a new name, at least the petrol Mustang does resemble the original.

Yep, that's a Capri.

That is not a Capri. Would be better named Crappie like the version in GTA: London.

Are ford really trying to ruin their name and go bust with all these SUV/crossover type vehicles?
The only standard looking vehicle they make now is the Focus (the Mach-e doesn't count).
How can they use such an iconic name and replace it with this piece of plop?

Not for much longer, less than 12 months left building those now.  Then the whole line-up will be 'futuristic'.  Though in fairness, I remember people complaining about such a large change in design for Mk7 Fiesta and Mk3 Focus.  Ford have often heavily redesigned models throughout the years though, unlike VW who keep theirs looking pretty similar each time (until recently!).

Yes I remember when the much loved Cortina Mk5 was replaced by the Sierra. That went very well for them 🤣
