Reverse polarity jump start

Featured Replies

Hi everyone again

I have bought myself a runaround Car and am still trying to fix this problem.

Someone had suggested that the PATS system may be at fault preventing the Car from starting, he mentioned his mates Car had a similar problem which was a broken wire for the pats system that caused the non start.

Does anyone know where this pats unit is located and which wires to check please ?

He also mentioned a red light that should show in the center of my dash console that is related to the pats system.

Thank you all again for your help with this.

  • Do as John says and clear all the DTC's and see what comes back. The starter motor can not be at fault due to trying to reverse polarity jump start the car. The starter solenoid would not have operate

  • Yes FORScan can run a full self test on the BCM. 👍

  • This seems to step you through CAN  issues if the starter appears sound (first need to test that solenoid is getting a signal, or bypass the small lead?):

Be careful that you don't go down a rabbit hole! If your car worked fine BEFORE you wrongly connected the battery booster, then it's hardly likely to suddenly be a broken wire. If you type into Google 'Ford pats system' then there's some good info about it. I don't know about your car, but my '02 Mondeo pats immobilizer is active when a red led mounted on the clock face flashes. When I insert the key, (without turning it)  the flashing led goes out.
