Hey guys.  Thought I'd share some good news with you all. I finally had time today to remove the cluster and take it apart. Fortunately the cowboy who had it before me decided to cover the E

On hopefully a good note, the mechanic just called and the CAT seems to have fixed the emissions.

Re-test No.3 to come. Thankfully the garage didn't log the second retest.

Yeah it's the 1.0L eco boost engine.

How can the mechanic say that then? He didn't take the engine apart.

Sounds like he's a billy b*llshitter tbh.  Motor trade is full of them unfortunately.

He seems like a decent chap but I do think your right. After the first set of works he said it's just passing the emissions now. When it failed, I said to him it needs to be 20. He says well it was 28, so it concerns me a little.

Also when I left the car there, I said does the bus go to a certain destination, he said yes, it didn't! 😂

I'm beginning to wonder if he was my best recommendation.

A former colleague of mine used to have special business cards to hand to such people. On the reverse it read "I'm a bit of a b*llshitter myself, but it's a pleasure to meet a real expert."

how long have you had the car ?   if your bought within last three months from the trade - do they not have to offer a 3 month warranty whether they like it or not ? and if the EML has been disabled he's a crook

if so he won't help - but small claims court will... and you could get everything back and buy one without that engine

Bought it from one of these pop up garages, you know the ones. I had three months warranty, had some work done but he is definitely a crook but not much I can do now sadly.

Had it 6 months.

I didn't even realise about the EML or other issues, they never occurred to me at the time of looking.

Tell me more about the small claims court? Should I contact the guy at the garage and rough him up lol.

Looks like the old CAT was in a bit of a mess!!!

Another £500 on top of the £350 I paid previously 😞

Test readings now (not from the MOT, that's tomorrow)

30 minutes labour?

Now for the wet belts👍

0.0 CO and only 5 HC seems very suspect.  Looks like they forgot to put the probe in!  Unless you really do have the cleanest 1.0 EcoBoost ever.

Either way, doesn't matter as long as it passes now.

30 mins labour is probably a standard minimum labour rate.  It does take some time to get cars in & out and set up the equipment of course.

Is it a 1.0 Ecoboost?

If so, then search the forum for Ecoboost timing belt problems, and you will see (or, Google Ford ecoboom)!

Cambelt and oil pump belt run in oil therefore "wet". They should have been changed at 10 years maximum.

Mines not been changed and its a Feb '14 car. Something I will have to look at when I get over the £850 I have just spent so far to get it through (hopefully) the MOT.

Don't take too long to look at it. They have a very nasty habit of failing and turning the engine in to a pile of scrap metal. Yours is living on borrowed time 🙁

I was going to let him get over the first bill - before any more scary stories

hope it passes & hope you get around to the wet belts before anything unpleasant happens

as they say - keeps you off the streets

Well I still got 3 tyres to get so the wet belt is gonna have to wait!

No wonder the guy/girl got rid of it.

Maybe I will do my homework better next time. This is costing me a small fortune!

If the belt is inside the engine, how is it possible to tell how long it has left and if it has ever been changed?

Simple answer is you can't.

Correction, Superman with his X-Ray vision could at least see it, but I doubt he could tell you how long it will last.

I could cry with all this expense. 🥹 It's making me feel quite sick!

Now 3 tyres and a timing belt to get.

I was hoping to get it through a cheap MOT and then part X it.

Will any of this extra expense (inc the timing belt) hold any extra value when passing it on???

---

Oh and I have contacted the guy that sold me the car back in Aug last year. See if he's got any B@@locks (crook)

So angry 😡

I am getting really concerned/worried now about the wet timing belt. Professionals are saying that when the belt wears it can send bits into the engine. Also the CORRECT OIL should always be used to maintain not only the engine but the belt also.

I'm dieing inside!
