''We no longer accept cash card payments only''

My local Chinese takeaway only accepts 'cash' no card payments. Funny they only want cash 🤣

On a serious note (possible pun) if businesses are allowed to refuse cash then logically the next move for them would be to invent their own methods of payment. Either insisting on payment in pork sausages or other equally bizarre units of payment.

I'm surprised that Tesco haven't invented the 'Tessy' and that you can convert £1.50 pounds sterling for one Tessy at one of their hole in the wall machines, after all "every little helps" 😉

  • Cash is expensive and risky to handle, store, and transport. The 'cash is king' chant is typically associated with right wing conspiracy nutjobs.

  • Well maybe, if we could go back to the barter system. I'll swap you two chickens for a tank of diesel  👍 I guess the VAT on that would be a couple of eggs 🤣

Can I assume that is payment into your PayPal account? As a buyer, when I use PayPal, the money is sucked out of my bank account in seconds...

No, that was for outgoing payments.  Mainly eBay.  Maybe they've changed it now though.

They're not far off with their Clubcard pricing. I needed to replace my electric toothbrush the other day and Clubcard price was half the non-card price.

I'm old enough to remember when, if there was a power failure, petrol pumps could be operated by a crank handle. This was obviously when we still had pump attendants (who would also clean your windscreen).

I'm sure I've told this story before but ..

When I started driving aged 17 I was living out on one of the islands.

The petrol pumps were operated by a 'back and forth' pendulum type hand operated pump. Usually the older woman who ran the shop would come down and pump the fuel after you'd paid for it. She would stand there pumping petrol for however long it took, while maintaining a dialogue of conversation.

On one occasion, due to ill health of the shopkeeper I think, I was asked if I could get my own petrol. No problem I said! Let me tell you this, minding on I was 17/18 IE in the prime of my health, I was absolutely knackered after a couple of minutes! Yet, the 'older lady ' would happily walk up and down the road and pump petrol while keeping up a chat at the same time. Needless to say my respect for her raised immediately! 😀
