Seat Retrim....i Can Has!!!

Featured Replies

Not sure really its hard to give a figure as this is the first fiesta seats i have done, and so far i have been working on them all in for about 5 hours. That includes me removing the rear seats and stripping them down and recovering the base.

Your probably looking at 2 hides of leather to do the seats front and back, and decent hides on average are about 250 so thats 500 already. I reckon 1000 area but it really depends on what you choose fabric wise.

If you went for a faux leather (vinyl) then you could easier half the fabric costs.

Its not something we do where i work very often as i recover furniture like settees and chairs, but its all the same logic just its a car interior not a settee.

Liking your work... :)

As I understand it (from reading the sites of companies that sell the leather, so maybe biased) automotive leather is treated so it can handle the wider temperature variation and sunlight damage you get in a car compared to a sofa. So are you using anything special, or just a good quality sofa leather?

Also, are you planning to cover the door cards? I have the leather pack on mine, but I think the cards would benefit hugely from being covered/padded (doesn't need to be real leather - maybe vinyl on the dark bits and fake suede on the lighter central part). I've seen some great examples around the web, though not yet on the mk7.

The leather i am using it from a company called spinnybeck leathers, and it is a really decent quality leather. Where i work we had kept all the off cuts from a big job we did and i am using them to trim my seats. Its not actually a automotive leather but its a very nice leather to use on car seats.

Yes i am thinking about the door cards but then i would need to do the dash if possible and thats a big job.

Here's the marks on my seats as per request

Its got scratched at some point, maybe see if you can colour it in with the same colour pen. It happens with leather just annoying when it does

Thank you for the good comments.

Thinking about getting heating elements for the fronts as leather is too cold!!!!

The red leather and design reminds me of the Rover 200 BRM's interior/

Little update on the fiesta. Just added black below the grill as its getting scratched coming out of my new driveway so until i sort something this will do. Thinking i may even go down the h&r springs instead of the coilovers but undecided yet.

Hmm id say add some boards to run the tyres along as you drive up and down the way?

:P But yeah looks good, i can imagine the mk7 st/rs having a front bumper like that ;)

Yea thats a good idea but i am not the only one using the drive as its the only access for behind where i live.So would have to out the wood down every time i go in and out which will suck, so gonna raise it a tad and see if it clears it. If not i am gonna get springs and sell the coilovers.

That looks awesome... I'm afraid the seats were the one thing i didnt like when I test drove my car yesterday...

i still bought it and doing something like this would certainly improve the interior...maybe in 2013 when i can afford it though!!

great job - make sure you add some pics when its done...

great job can't wait to see the finished artical.
