Adding a reversing camera to a brand new St-line X?

Featured Replies

I ordered a new 2025 st-line X back at the start of May from a ford dealer. I specifically ordered it with the parking pack, including the reversing camera. This week the dealer said the car had arrived. it's not the colour I ordered, the seats are cloth not sensico leather and there is no parking pack. I literally went into the dealership already mad about the seats and colour to look at the car and the minute I look at the back of the car, I'm like "where the hell is the reversing camera?" and it's suddenly news to the salesman that the parking pack isn't on it. I'd have told him to give me my deposit back immediately but there seems to be no ST line X's left in Ireland and the order book is closed so I can't get one somewhere else so he's given me the weekend to think about it. the salesman is trying to fob me off by saying I can get an aftermarket camera installed by a third party [at my expense] but I don't want a camera that doesn't have the exact same dynamic guidelines, including the centre line etc, and functionality as a factory fitted model [I currently have a 2023 St-line X with the camera] nor am I happy about having to rip out most of the front dash on a brand new car. Can anyone advise me if getting one fitted to OEM standard is even possible? or is it most likely going to be inferior to what I have on my current car? I feel at this point the salesman is trying to take me for a fool and will say anything to get the sale and I don't trust anything he says about an aftermarket camera after the mess up he's made so I'm trying to do my own research.

What's happening to your old car?  If the same salesman is taking it in part ex tell him you'll be removing the camera before they get it.

Or just reject the car and buy something without a Ford badge.  I wouldn't go through with the sale if the spec had changed so much since placing the order.

Hi Dee, welcome.

People have done it but it's not straightforward as you can see from this thread:

https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/142783-focus-mk4-camera-install/

Speaking purely personally, after the dealers performance and the fact that you're not getting what you ordered in several ways, I'd be very much inclined to cancel and either hang on to your existing car, if you're happy with it, or look elsewhere altogether.

At the very least I would have expected they should be offering something to sweeten the deal as compensation for their multiple omissions, not suggesting you get an aftermarket camera at your expense!

Personally, I'd get the deposit back and shop elsewhere for something else. You will never be happy with that car after the appalling start in life it's had with you. Can't imagine how angry you are, I'd be livid! I'd be just curious if the dealer just screwed up the order, or did Ford get the 'parking pack' order but just couldn't be *rsed fulfilling it...

At this stage in the Focus runout, it's probably a bit of both, but you might have expected some communication with the customer!

Just had a look at the UK Focus price list and the only models now left on it are Active X Edition, ST-Line and ST-Line X Edition.

There are quite a few ST-Lines and ST-Line X available from stock on the Ford website (again, UK) including the odd one with parking pack and camera. Don't know if they could be configured for ROI spec though, the measurement unit is easy enough to change from mph to km/h in settings on an X with digital instrument cluster.

Actually it's not "your car" !!!  🙁

It's simply the closest thing they could find and are trying to fob you off.

Technically there are specialists who could add (and possibly integrate) a Ford type reversing camera, and the front and rear parking sensors if they are also missing. Of course this change to the vehicles electrics would most definitely invalidate the Ford warranty. Also lets not forget that you would have to declare to the insurance company that the vehicle had been modified and was no longer factory standard.

If I was so keen to accept the car, I'd want a minimum of £1500 compensation, which is what you could end up spending getting the missing parts added, and possibly an insurance premium increase.

Thanks everyone. @TomsFocus my current car was going in against the new one as a trade in. the salesman was literally about to put plates on it and I was like 'no way I have to see the colour and new seats before i even consider it'. So no mention of the parking pack problem. Not until I walked into the showroom and saw it wasn't on the car.

@Eric Bloodaxe thanks and yikes, that does look complicated. I was trying to look up about the cameras on this forum and it does seem like a lot of work. My current car is going fine - I learned the Focus was finishing up and said I'd get an St-line X in the same spec I had because new ones wouldn't be available when my pcp finishes up. the salesman said Ford would give me back 1000 on the purchase price due to the different seats but that was coming from Ford not the garage. no mention anything to sweeten the deal at all. in fact, even when i was giving out that the car in the showroom was a downgrade to the one I had parked outside, he offered to order in an st-line with a camera, with none of the X's specs. I'm very much thinking of just hanging onto my current car at this point.

@StephenFord thanks. oh i was livid! the salesman is blaming Ford but also admitted he couldn't get the colour i originally wanted back in May, swapped it out for another colour and never told me. If i had known at the time of the original order that I couldn't get what i wanted, there were actually some cars in stock in other colours in other garages that I could have gone for, even if they wouldn't have been my first choice in colour.

@unofixomg it invalidates the warranty AND you have to report it to insurance?! as in the 5 year warranty wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on?! I did not know that and it was never mentioned.

Plenty of other manufacturers offer a rear view camera.

Most offer it for free, unlike Ford.

I'd tell them to stick it and buy something else

They're just trying to fob you off with a stock car

Speaking of which, just had a quick look at the Ford Ireland site (https://www.ford.ie/shop/next-steps/inventory/showroom).

There are 135 Focuses shown in stock on there, various models, colours, specs, some of which have parking pack.

E.g. even the "base model"  Toyota Corolla Icon has front/rear sensors and camera as standard.

And all the Ocados (or whatever) Jaecoos (or whatevers) and BYDs etc too and they're less than £30k

That's why Ford cant sell Explorers and Crapis

The dealership is diabolical changing the colour and not telling gives you and idea of their ethics.

Get your money back walk away and find another dealer who will try and get a car spec closer to what you want.

Do salespeople have ethics?

Fair dos - in my many years of car buying I have encountered a few who did. Same in business generally, and it does cut both ways of course - I'm sure there'll be a few ex-sales people asking do buyers have ethics?😀

Hi.

If you have any issues with insurance at all for a fitment of a camera then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

Thanks. will have to ring some other dealers as there's very few St-line X's.

The wrong color, cloth seats instead of leather and the missing reverse camera would each on their own be more than enough reason for me to reject the car.

It is just not the car you ordered and when you accept it you will always regret the decision.

The £1000 compensation discount is a laugh. Retrofitting the original reverse camera (including the original wiring harnesses that are probably also missing) and the leather interior including labor will easily cost £4000.

It's the not the car that you paid for, certainly not the St Line X model that you ordered and should be specified in your purchase contract/agreement. The dealer & Ford have failed! As others have indicated you should reject it and get your money back.
