2012 Focus Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping for some advice. I have a 2012 Focus 1.0 ecoBoost, the oil light came on and went straight in to limp mode, no warning of anything wrong, just happened. Does anyone know why this may have happened, oil level is fine and car was driving fine before this happened. TIA

Experts, is this a standard wet belt failure clogging up oil pick up?
Check the multiple other posts e.g:

Quick update, needed to move car this morning, it doesn't want to go past 2000rpm, the system says there are no faults. No engine light, just oil light but oil level is fine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be. TIA

The warning light is for low oil pressure.  It is not checking the level.

Do you know if the wetbelts have been replaced?

It's possible that the oil pressure sensor is faulty.  But on this engine the warning almost always is correct and due to the oil pump clogging up with bits of degrading wetbelt.

just oil light

On these vehicles that light comes on to tell you when it's time to fit a new engine 🙁

Even I am getting the hang of this one now!!! 😬

my only advice, STOP using the car, dont even start it.

if you stand any chance of saving the engine, get it recovered to whichever garage you choose, and get the belts, strainer and all associated gubbins done asap.

the fact the engine runs, meant the belt hasnt broken any teeth off (yet) lets keep it that way.
