Problems With Bluetooth Audio

Featured Replies

Hi iNath

Thanks again for your response regarding the Ford software update. I had my first chance to check out the multimedia system after updating the software last night and I have a couple of issues which I'm hoping you or any other forum members can assist me with?

Ok, the first issue is with regard to the phone 'signal strength' icon that disappeared with the update to iOS5. To be honest I remember seeing it there prior to updating but did not notice it had gone afterwards. I used my iPhone in the car today and don't remember seeing the signal strength in the display. At what point during the initiation of the call does the 'signal strength' icon appear and whereabouts in the display is it shown? I.e. top left/right or bottom left/right.

Second issue is also with using the phone and whilst the system was dialling, I noticed the letters "DSP" in the top right hand corner. I've had the car for just over a year and prior to updating the Ford software via USB, I had never seen DSP when making a call. The user manual seems to suggest that DSP is related to audio so why is it appearing when making a call?

The last issue is with playing music from my iPhone through the multimedia system. I had read in this topic that after members updated the software using the downloadable file from the Ford website, they were able to play their music over Bluetooth without connecting the "Y" cable or choosing "AUX". I tried this today and my iPhone was already connected via bluetooth so I started the music playing but heard nothing from the car speakers until I pressed "AUX". I've obviously got it wrong and think that we must connect to the cars USB jack using the USB data cable that came with the phone?

All help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards, BHeart

With regards to the issue highlighted in bold, although your iPhone is connected to bluetooth you still have to switch to the correct AUX setting for it to play.

IIRC it goes in this order: Press AUX

USB

Bluetooth Streaming

Line Out (Cable)

Or it could be Line Out then Bluetooth Streaming - You'll know when its bluetooth because your music will start playing (assuming you've already pressed play) and I believe the symbol is similar to the 'wifi' signal on the iPhone.

  • Does this have to be done by the dealer, or can it be downloaded and updated via USB?

  • Just to let everyone know Ford have now posted the update for Bluetooth on their Connectivity website. Installed the update just now, takes around 20 minutes and everything is working, bluetooth audio

I'm not sure - I'll let someone with an iPhone answer this

Can't explain it but totally normal - mine displays a DSP light during calls as well.

Correct - to hear music played via Bluetooth you must press the AUX button, just as if you want a CD you press CD or RADIO for radio. AUX button is also used for USB & line-in audio.

Can't say I've noticed the signal bar...I'll have a look tonight when I'm out, try making a call and let you know if it's disappeared or not.

As for DSP that's definitely to do with Audio...It's a more advanced form of "graphic equaliser" that's supposed to improve the acoustic properties of a certain room or space. Now if my memory serves me correctly, I have always had this in the car and it displays to the right of the screen just under TP and is illuminated orange. Perhaps Ford want to make our calls more acoustically pleasant to listen to and have enabled DSP on phone calls.

As jmbrown91 has said, streaming music over Bluetooth is accessed by pressing aux until the wifi looking symbol appears. As for only needing the dock cable, this refers to the fact that to use the iPod feature in the stereo (i.e have artist and song information) you used to have to connect the iPhone to the USB port and the 3.5mm aux connector. The dock cable provided the song information and the aux cable provided the sound, now both can be sent down the USB port eliminating the need to connect the 3.5mm aux cable.

Did update over week ago. Started getting problems again. 'Cannot read' and missing the data as to whats playing. possibly update not upto scratch?

Top left mate, but not in the very corner, its just to the right of the time, which is displayed whilst making a call IIRC.

Sorry dupe.

Hi

Thanks for your response "OTS". :)

I noticed the signal strength whilst making a call on the way home from work this afternoon but I'm sure the symbol was at the top and to the right of centre? I'Ii check again tomorrow though.

One thing I did think was absent since updating the software was the 'adaptive volume' which I had set to 6 and worked quite well. Today the volume did not seem to increase with the speed of the car?

I posted this elsewhere but figure I may as well try here too. After applying the October 2011 update is anyone able to get their iPhone to output audio via the AUX In port while it is connected via USB. Previously if I opened Music app on the phone I could change the output from Ford Audio to Dock Connector which in turn allowed me to use the AUX IN. The ability to select the Dock Connector no longer exists from what I could see.

The reason I want to do this is I would often use GPS on the phone and liked to use the AUX In as it was a good way to prevent music playback, only the GPS unit would output.

Has anyone got a suggestion that would either get the AUX IN functional again for a docked handset or at least provide some way to output audio from a phone application without music also playing in the background. I can undock the phone but then it no longer will charge unless I plug it into a lighter port, and there are times when I would swap back into the iPod menu which was a lot more seamless than before.

On the plus side bluetooth now shows track info unlike before, but the loss of Aux In is a bit of a bummer currently.

edit: To clarify, where I said AUX In above I mean the Line In option.

Hi there....newbie in need of help!!! Picked up my brand new 2011 fiesta on 31 december 2011!!!! Iphone initially worked fine via bluetooth. Picked up songs and played etc no problems.

Connected iphone to computer last night to sync some more songs and i am presuming my iphone was updated with software version 5.0.1.

Now when i get in the car my iphone is picked up via bluetooth however when i plays the songs, they look as though they are playing however there is no sound whatsoever. When connected via the usb with the normal ipod cable it works fine and picks it up as an ipod player. I am a bit lazy and really would like my songs to play via bluetooth rather than through a cable.

I downloaded the latest version of the Ford update as recommended in this thread, however it kept on saying "no files on this usb" or something similar - have tried two different memory sticks but to no avail.

HELP! will be ring the ford dealer tomorrow, but just thought someone maybe able to help in the meantime.......THANKS!!!

I downloaded the latest version of the Ford update as recommended in this thread, however it kept on saying "no files on this usb" or something similar - have tried two different memory sticks but to no avail.

Make sure the USB stick is formated in Fat32 format before adding the files. I tried with NTFS originally and it didn't pick it up. In "My Computer" right click the drive, select format and change the selection of format if need be to FAT32.

Also make sure that you extract it to the highest directory possible i.e E:/ or F:/ not in any folders

And make sure to turn the key to position 2 i.e one turn before starting the actual car.

I've been reading this thread with some interest because I have been having problems with the bluetooth and ipod since owning the car. (4 months)

Basically I connect my ipod to the jack (no USB) and it plays for a minute or so before it cuts out. The Aux/In line display disapears and it switches back to the radio. No amount of pressing the Aux button will change it back. After 10 mins or so, it will re-connect before doing the same thing again. I go through this about 4/5 times before it will play the ipod properly.

Also - the bluetooth is permanently switched on and i cannot uncheck it. I rarely use my nokia phone in the car and it is debonded anyway. There are times when the blue icon doesn't come on, but when it does, it stays on and will not switch off. I wondered if the bluetooth was interfering with the ipod at all and is making is cut out?

Car went into Ford dealer last week - they said it was a common problem, they disconnected the battery and said it should now work fine. Only it doesn't and it made no difference!

Car is going back in again tomorrow morning....

Any thoughts please? I can't do the update myself as I don't have USB...

Does the car Bluetooth support A2DP (Bluetooth stereo)?

If it does why not just connect your pod via that?

Sorry i assumed you've a Ipod Touch if it's a standard ipod then not bluetooth?

Sorry, its a standard ipod, about 4 years old so no bluetooth on it. My nokia phone is a work one and I really wouldn't want to drain the battery using the buetooth as it does get used ALOT in my job!

I don't know if the car has A2DP? I only know it does have bluetooth which I have used/bonded on occasion with my work phone but it is that unreliable I gave up using it.

Does anybody know if you are able to turn the bluetooth off - mine is now permanently switched on and it won't untick on the phone menu?

Afraid i don't know about fiesta bluetooth settings.

To get around the bluetooth cutting out your aux connection you could bypass it totally and do like i do and use a radio transmirrer unit instead.

The plug in charger part has play/pause/fwd/rev buttons on it too.

I have a Parrot bluetooth fitted but it doesn't support A2DP so this suits me fine.

Just an idea.

Ive changed the format of my usb to fat32 and everything extracted to E something but despite this my car STILL says no files on device :(

Problem seems to be totally fixed - Ford did the update for me (free) this morning and the difference is amazing. I have to say the dealer was really good about it - no quibbles or arguments....totally hassle free.

Phone connects instantly, ipod plays - no cut outs...I'm a happy bunny. :D

In addition, USB was also retro fitted this afternoon by iNath and its all working perfectly - so all in all, a good day for me!

  • 2 years later...

Guys, really sorry that this is an old thread but it's the top answer when I google my problem.

I've checked and I can't find it previously covered in here, I apologise if it has.

I've got a 60 plate Fiesta Zetec and had no problems with the audio and Bluetooth until a few days ago.

I listen the the music on my phone (iPhone 5) through the Bluetooth function but recently the icon on the car has decided to not come on any longer. I've checked my manual and can't find a section for turning it back on. I've checked online and through all the menus on the car and still can't find it.

I checked on my phone that Bluetooth is definitely on and do the usual search, ford audio can no longer be found, it simply states not connected (when it was paired). When I select it it tries for a bit and tells me to make sure ford audio is on and within range, I know it's not on though because the icon isn't lit up in the cars display.

I've tried going into the phone menu on the car to see if there is anything in there too but to no avail. It says on, but clearly isn't.

I then tried debonding incase it was having a bit of a moment, and restarting my phone, then searched again and still nothing.

Anyone any ideas? I've got my fingers crossed that it's something really simple that I've completely missed! All help is extremely appreciated :-)

Find the bluetooth module (I believe it's behind the glovebox) and disconnect the main connector for 10-20 minutes to reset it.

Thank you for your help :-)

I took the car to ford today (before I had seen these posts) and they did the reset and have said I possibly need a new box that will cost £200. I'm more than annoyed :-(

They're £50ish used on eBay ;)

Typical Ford.

I'm surprised they didn't try selling you a new module there and then.

I told him under no circumstances would I be paying that, not for something so simple (after watching the vid above, I realised it actually is). I've let them book the car in so they can pretend to try and fix it and then I'm taking it elsewhere for the work when they tell me that it does need it. I'm anticipating that they will seeing as they car is now out of warranty..
