Washer Fluid Warning

Featured Replies

Is low washer fluid light the orange one on the left of the computer display? When I turn ignition on this light is on for just a moment. Does it mean that my car has this feature? Up to now I never had a chance to check it :)

HI. There are 2 lights, one each side of the computer display.... An amber one, and an red one. The amber lights up for warnings, and these warnings are shown by the display. Red is for danger, again to supplant the diagnostic message. I have only ever had 1 amber light warning, that was a steering assist failure, caused by the power steering pump failing. Glad it was still under warranty for this.......

Ran mine right down and hey presto warning came on nice to know its there but i regularly top up anyway so unlikely il see it again

Seems hit and miss if a Focus has it. Seems to be poointed to it been enabled via ECU or whatever

I e-mailed ford about this a few days ago. They have just got back to me. Reply a little odd, detailed below, however they state the Zetec Climates should have this feature. Maybe its just faulty.....

In regards to your query I have spoken with the brand management team for the Focus, who have advised on your particular model you will have the warning sign for the low washer level.

To explain, when your washer level is low, you will see an 'I' sign between the temperature gauge and the fuel gauge. The scroll of the left hand side of the stalk you can scroll down to 'messages' which will then display what the 'I' is referring too.

I've been trying to find out about this for a few months now.

I've got a 57 plate titanium which was advertised as having the feature but doesn't appear to. Is it a case of getting Ford to hook it up to their machine and enable it and maybe fit a new bottle with sensor?

Really annoying.

sure i read some where in the manual that it's only fitted to cars with headlamp washers ..either way my 07 climate doesnt have it :(

Well guys, I got a response from Ford, albeing confusing.... After they confused my car with a Mk2.5, even though they had the VIN number, they have now said that the MK2s dont have this feature?!?!? Can understand this at all, as the manual states its there.

Ford dont even know whats on their cars nowadays.

Will just have to check each week

Hi

My 55 plate 1.6 zetec climate has this feature, I'm annoyed as it comes on so often. Perhaps they stopped fitting it after 2005?

Something that was standard is now not.

As i have said before.

1982 mk1 ford sierra GL and Ghia had Washer Bottle Level Sensors as standard.

They also had brake pad wear warning lights.

They also had a low oil warning light not a no oil light like we have these days.

That was back in 1982 !!!

Ford Need to get there heads out of there asses

Jamie

My 2005 Titanium has the low washer fluid feature... The warning light glows orange, and the computer display is taken over with "LOW WASHER FLUID" warning... I'll take a piccy of the display the next time i run out ;)

I wish there was a retrofit how-to guide for this.

I wish there was a retrofit how-to guide for this.

this type of install would require the computer in the car (the GEM) to be activated to comunicate with the sensor in the washer bottle mate, so regardless of how much the sensor costs and fitting a new washer bottle, all that wouldnt be a problem but the down side of it is ford will charge £60 diagnostic fee. to activate the sensor for you.

so i wouldnt bother personally.

they have now said that the MK2s dont have this feature?!?!?

shoiws how much ford know when my cars an 06 on a 55 plate a zetec climate and i have it very strange that ford dont have a clue and if that was the case why advertise all of the specs as having it

its in the haynes focus mk2 & mk2.5 manual on the wiring diagram's

That realy is poor from ford that they cant get the basics right or maybe they cocked up and didnt fit it to cars that should have it id phone them up and tell them youre a member and to point out what was said just to see what they say

When I originally asked ford the question their reply was as follows....

I hope this information has helped. If you do have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

I replied to this stating I did not have this kind of Dash, and I suspected they were referring to the facelift model, even though I had given them my reg no!! I also sent them a photo of my Dash, so they knew it was a MK2. The final reply was as follows

Thanks for taking the time to show us this image. I have spoken again with the product specialist who has advised, that yes you do have the model before the facelift.

Therefore you will not have a warning light when the fluid washer level is low, and we are unable to retrofit this. Also just to confirm we are aware this is not integral to the washer pump. If you have any further queries about this just let us know.

This I read as the Mk2 model does not have this feature, or should I have read it as the MK2 Zetec Climate does not have this feature. I am in no doubt that ford have no idea to what model it is fitted to, and I think they seriously need to smell the coffee, when it comes to fitted features, and what models they are fitted to. There are other posts reagrds other 'features' that some cars have and some dont, that seems pretty random. I also asked if it was integral to the washer pump, they say no, in contradiction to another poster here, that confirms it is. Words fail me.........

No it isn't integral to the washer pump, the pump is on its own and the sensor is on the other side of the bottle like this one

My Focus mk2 has this feature by the way.

Sorry mate, I think I misread your previous post

Words still fail me regards ford knowledge. I shall pull the resovoir when its better weather and see if I actually have a sensor.

sure i read some where in the manual that it's only fitted to cars with headlamp washers ..either way my 07 climate doesnt have it :(

Just found this in my handbook. The Mk2.5 only has this feature if you have headlamp washers. Its still likely all the washer bottles have the sensor though as Ford do like to use the same parts on as many variants as possible.

My Zetec S doesnt have this... however wonder if playing with IDS can enable it....

heres the proof ford dont know what they are talking about ive let it run down instead of my usual weekly top up post-8800-0-76609400-1331055273_thumb.jp

!Removed! knew it.... What spec is your focus artscot?? Mine is a late 56 plate (End Dec 2006), 1.8TDCi zetec climate.

Will need to pull the fluid bottle, its not beyond the imagination that the sensor may be duff. Will short out the wiring (if its there) and see if the dash shows anything. If not, I may go to ford, and demand its activated. getting pretty tired of Ford apathy in the cars specs.

Mine definitely has no low washer warning.

It ran out yesterday and nothing.

1.6 ti-vct zetec climate built 29.09.2005 regitered 16.01.2006

i left it to run low just to show that ford dont have a clue
