I've heard some make you keep run flat tyres for "safey" and if you changed to a normal tyre, and had a crash - they wont pay out. Not sure how true this is mind..

Not sure that is true. We can't *make* you use a specific sort of Tyre. Again, we cannot refuse to insure you - So we can't say that you have to use them. Seems a very strange clause to have in a policy booket!
