that's interesting, my EGR cooler seems to have a whole bunch of things attached to it via a plastic fitting which obscures the nut to loosen it off so that sounds handy, I whipped out the fuel filter but found it extremely difficult to move, the pipes holding it back, I really don't fancy disconnecting it, so any idea how much play you can safely apply to these pipes? I don't want to screw it up by pushing it out the way too much but its a big bugger right in my way. Plate arrived today so planning to go for it Thursday / Friday, ill send you a donation if the pics aren't up tomorrow.

thanks guys, once again you lot are legends, whole process was straightforward an dead easy,

on the guide you mention taking the wipers of being tricky an bent them upwards? (youtube link doesn't work) I found it dead easy to pop the nut and washer off, then push down on the spring joint towards the window whilst lifting up the joint around the bolt at the same time, just slips right off.

I moved the fuel filter without disconnecting it and took off the filter bracket for good measure, didn't need to play about with the EGR cooler at all. had more than enough room for a small party after that, regarding the bolts on the EGR valve its self, after having nightmares of bits dropping off from previous comments I loosened them off then undid them with my fingers a wee bit at a time, felt more confidant I wasn't going too far doing it that way.

one thing though

Does it matter which way it goes in? looking at the valve the top part is the shortest so I assumed that was the right way to put it in, but there is apart sticking out the side still..., please excuse my ignorance, this is pretty much the first time ive got my hands dirty with an engine!

id say:

Despite the large size and shape of the EGR valve blanking plate and flange: the actual main hole in question is smaller in the centre,

So i reckon fitted in either direction will still provide "Total Eclipse" on the line.

Done, went for an hour long high speed run and all is good, it feels like it has shed loads more available power at higher speeds too, much smoother. doesn't sound quite as noisy at any point, I think I can see why some folk think they are getting lower mpg, ive not had the car that long and haven't got used to it so I instantly noticed I needed less right foot to get a move on anywhere.

So far, definitely worth it, next up, the DPF removal!

nice one :)

Ensure thats DPF internal removal,

Then make sure you dont put petrol in the tank because it will drive just like one after dpf removal performance is great.

Nope, didn't take wipers etc off.....just the engine cover. Been a hydraulic hose fitter for 10 years years, so used to working blind. :D

Dropped the plate on the gearbox twice, third time just dropped in place. Shone the torch through between block and diesel filter and could see the gasket was between engine block and plate. Then fitted the K&N, all done and tools away. :)

Did all the "boy racer" footage found on your dash camera after your last service in garage give you some ideas ?

lol.....nope not in my way, just need to have it painted. Then put it back together, tax, test and drive! :D

Just been for a 30 mile blast, better at pulling away, smoother acceleration, and mpg seems a bit better. And mid range is even better too. :D

best advise is take your time and follow the guide,

Mechanic would charge you 1-2 hours labour for this job, save your self that money and give it a go,

Best to blank it before TeraClean or soon after to help maintain a clean engine.
