Track Rod End Lock Nuts

Hello all,

I'm, new to the club and I wish I had found it ages ago, although those problems have been solved. Pehaps I may be able to help others who have similar issues to those that I have fixed.

But now I need your help.

I am attempting to change a track rod end on my mk3 mondy. I have the new one, but I cannot undo the locknut. I have tried banging the spanner after soaking in wd40, no movement. So I undid the joint end at the hub end thinking I could turn it off but of course the track rod turns too doesn't it!! It's hanging down now so that the WD40 can run inside, hopefully that will help.

Does anybody have any other suggestions.

Right I put brain in gear, used heat, borrowed neighbour's blowtorch, 30 secs of heatand the nut turned. 20 minutes later the job was complete.

Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.

I was about to suggest heat :- ) an extra tip though is to apply heat around the area that needs loosening not on the nut it self and don't overheat it will deform the track rod. Done this before

heat is sometimes the only answer to tricky track rod ends. I have done a few tricky ones where the oxy propane has been needed (I dont have acetylene)

the lack of flats on the track rods doesn't help though. sometimes its hard to grip them
