What I do is on a motorway tap the breaks if that doesn't work I'll find a car on the inside lane match there speed and let them suffer until I or they have to get off

I just slow down to 5MPH below the limit and take my time. If you get to a junction pull away nice and slow and hope they are going your way :D.

I find i upset people on the motorway cause i trundle along at 65 and only move into the middle to overtake lorries but when doing this you get the people speeding along get right up your behind before moving lane. i'm not speeding up as fuel cost way too much to just to make someone happy by getting out of thier way.

Last night a vauxhall corsa came right up on my backside. As I was approaching a mini round about, I started braking he slammed on because he was so close. He then switched his high beams on as if I done him wrong I laughed. Wish I had my rear cam

have you another cam on order Kurt ?

Not yet mate i will shortly. Need to do my research on mounting it like others have done first before I order so I can get everything one time

Anyone else slow down a bit () more than necessary when turning off of a road with a tailgater behind you when they're carrying on? The higher the road speed the better :D.

The best way to deal with a tailgater is to change lanes and let the idiot go.

The more you sit in front of them the angrier you and the other driver get and a bigger chance of someone doing something even more dangerous.

Difuse the situation in your own mind and pray the prat finds the wrong side of a hedge where he can sit and ponder his misfortune.

Your actions affect his behaviour and this feeds back to you and affects your behaviour.

Remove yourself from the equation, simple.

(And then hope for a Traffic Officer on the next junction ;))

i agree but in Ireland they are literally never around when there is an offence such as tailgating going on, the only time I have seen the Gardai on more than 1 road i was driving I mean on the same trip is during big weekends when there is a bank holiday or theres a concert but thats it if its raining there is more or less 99% chance you won't see any, don't get me wrong I seen one squad car today and must admit i was doing 100kilometers per hour in an 80 zone he never turned around to stop me. so to some it up they are never around or even bother too stop the tailgaters.

Edit: I know Clive is now going to come to Ireland and sit around a corner and some how catch me and give me a ticket for said offence up there :P

Not my jurisdiction Fella.

Tbh you have to admit that the Gardai are a bit behind the times.

I'm in Belfast next week for an NCA/PSNI seminar so may take a trip down just to scare you ;)

Bring that 4 legged set of teeth with you too, that ought to do the trick!

I will be waiting yeah they are behind the time alright as far as I know any squad car I have seen the inside whilst walking by they don't have a computer or camera system by the looks of it maybe the traffic corps do but the normal squad car doesnt... His four legged friend doesn't scare me I was pulled over once by the armed response unit cause I had something dangerous hanging off my car.

Unfortunately the hairy crew is going on holiday for 3 days at a nice kennel in Cornwall.

Plenty of fields to run in and rabbits to terrorise.

Armed response unit is one thing, a set of indiscriminate merciless teeth is another... Although you'd only find out if you ran... Which I doubt would be the case :)

And there in lies the problem Mark, 99.9999% [a guess] :D of the time the police are not there, nor could possibly be expected to be there. And so it goes on because of that very fact, million to one chance of getting pulled for tailgating [anyone notice I've up the percentage of probability] Yer I'll take them odds..............get a move on why don't you I've places to go w@nker

Basically a law that is in the most part, in real world circumstances unable in prosecute the vast majority of transgressors, is worth less than the paper it was written on. On top of that, again in the real world most coppers would give it a low priority and deem it not worth the paperwork, due to pressure of work load / force priorities

Obviously, if such drivers by their driving style go onto cause death or serious injury, then it will merit the paper work. But that is after the event policing, not a dig at the police just highlighting the reality of the real world.

Also not all tailgating takes place on a road where the person being tailgated has options to pull into another lane, like on the vast majority of the roads in the UK, moving over is not an option.

Yeah armed response is one thing alright got to hope he hasn't got an itchy trigger finger the dog I will take my chances with as he will only bite me big deal I have been bitten before

A good bite from ANY large breed will tear flesh, break bone and generally be rather unpleasant for the recipient.

Being able to give an accurate pressure rating is tricky as it depends on jaw size, muzzle length, dog size, muscle density in the jaws and where the bite is administered.

A dog's teeth are designed to cut muscle and crush bones, my Willow bites through beef rib bones like twigs and they are bigger than 90% of bones in a human body.

I have been nipped and bitten a few times in my life and still bear the scars, plus potential infections being a risk.

Put it this way, the Malinois has a nickname in the U.S - 'Maligator'.

look stoney i get where your coming from I am just saying I'd rather face a police dog than an armed police officer with an itchy trigger finger.

I know dogs are fully capable of doing damage my friend has a japanese akita despite its rep his one is fairly friendly but is well capable of inflicting serious damage and or death. If I am lucky enough and close enough to my car and a dog was to chase me i could get into my car and the dog wont be able to get at me.

were on the other hand if i was facing a thug with a gun he could just shoot me no way could i out run a bullet. same goes for if im in a car he can just shoot through the glass.

look I have the greatest respect for the K-9 units infact if i was successful on getting into the Gardai when i tried I would be applying for that unit

I think I may have to get myself one of these!

If someones tailgating me depending on my mood and the traffic, I will either floor it and dare them to keep up with me or start braking unexpectedly.

Heff

I see marks point, taking on a dog or trying to outrun one is always guaranteed to stand a slight better chance of escape than a marksman with a bullet :-P

The problem with that is a bullet doesn't follow you around corners, dogs do.
