Tailgaters! What Can Be Legally Used To Dissuade The Morons ? Discuss

Featured Replies

After numerous attempts to tell the woman behind me she was up my ****, (Brake testing, going over the speed limit to get away from her, 40 in a 30, gesturing for her to overtake me which she blindly ignored) I went round a roundabout and she was about touching my bumper, so I went ahead, checked there wasn't much traffic, slowed to a stop and stuck the hazards on.

When I got out the car she looked at me as if I was an alien, I asked why she was so close to me and why she didn't get the message, she through her hands up in the air and said "I don't know"...

A white van driver behind was shouting the usual abuse... but at her..

Either way she still followed me but stayed a good 10 metres away.

The thing that ticked me off is that she did this for 10 minutes... When I sped up she did aswell, she closed any gap that I made and then she said she didn't know why?!?!?!

They call that flirting mate ;) :D :D haha

I had a honda boy racer up my rear end the other week. Its a narrow road with cars either side, so no way to overtake.

I could actually see the yellows of his teeth in my rear view mirror he was so close. I literally just slowed down to 5mph until he backed right off. He seemed to get the message.

If there was space for him to overtake I probably would have pulled over. I always prefer the nutters infront rather than behind.

Then theres the good old........pull up, walk around to the rear of your car, remembering not to stand between the idiots car and your own [so the rest of the drivers behind the idiot can see what comes next]

Lift the tailgate with one hand and gesture with your other hand towards the inside of your boot. At the same time mouthing with exaggeration but silently the words .............................is this were you want to be?

Of course there will be blank amazement on the idiots face. At this point you shrug your shoulders mouth the words NO... OK, boot lid down get back in car and drive off.

nice one Ian,

but then you would get the morons amoungst us who would know doubt cut you up and have it programmed with a two finger salute.

Trouble is we are dealing with idiots or just plain stupid people in most cases, and the use of message boards would be [in their eyes] that you are questioning their driving prowess .

Now the reality is technology is avaliable today to to produce an onboard safety system that would measure the speed of the car it is installed in and the distance it is sitting off the rear of the car it is following. Obviously you would have to factor in how long a given situation is in progress. And a base speed where the safety system kicks in [becomes live] or disingages, to allow for situations where vehicles are queueing in slow moving traffic and such.

When the circumstances confirm the car is tailgating it would activate a warning message in the offending vehicle . And if the warning its ignored, the cars is put into safe mode untill the on board data confims a safe distance is being maintained.

Bit like training a dog really, reward them with a treat, in this case the driver getting control of their car back when they start driving responsibily. Safe breaking applications using the type of in car monitoring that I outline above, are in use to today in many cars. An example being the new Volvo V40, in regard to people detected in front of the vehicle, or safe auto braking when a low speed collision situation is recognised. [i believe they have got systems that can activate at speeds of upto 30mph in some applications]

Just driven from Worcester to Evesham (in the rain) and had some !Removed! tailgating me. As I wear glasses, the glare was unbearable. The only thing I could really do was slow right down and wait for the inevitable overtake.

I had shaniqua johnson tailgating me today as I was coming back from the supermarket. I knew she would be trouble when she tried to turn in front of me on a main road without indicating, driving her estate agent issued mini cooper. Guessing she was late for an appointment. Narrow roads, cars either side so no real way to overtake. Im doing 25-30mph, she wants to do 40mph. Flashing lights, honking, revving engine. I slow down to 10mph, wind the window down, turn up the music and tap my hand on the roof.

This went on for about 2mins, till she got the idea.

Fun fun fun

I was being tailgated by a Volvo as I'd slowed down for a new speed limit through one of the villages (from 60 to 40). The !Removed! overtook me and then slowed right down resulting in the Insignia behind me overtaking and rolling down his window to shout abuse at the Volvo driver XD

I'm saying now't in case Ian throws his rattle out off his pram  again

I'm saying now't in case Ian throws his rattle out off his pram  again

'Of'...

In a different thread, I just said your reply was rather rude. Read into that how you want.

I assume this forum has a huge amount of free speech; but typically speaking, I can't imagine bringing topics or words from one thread to another is the most 'mature' thing you could do. Either way I'm not holding onto any of this, but if you want to then go ahead, my pram has high sides.

Keep it civil please Gents.

We can all have an opinion, and we won't always agree but play nice. 8)

No worries Clive

Now in reply to Ian,

You may or may not have noticed Clive had finished his post on that thread with the words

End of Chat!

Now I took it that he wanted the thread ending there.

So I "ribbed" you on this thread a thread incidently I started! And incidently attracting 547 views and 37 replies

By the way I'd have thought a discussion about "in car dash cam recordings" was relevant on a Car Forum. So you telling me to take it else where, well I'm sorry but I don't need you telling me were I should post thank you.

And yes your right there is free speech, but there is also the freedom not to partake in a thread. I don't take my ball home if people disagree with my view. Debating is about people putting up debate and seeing what comes of it. Now if your offended by the fact somebody does not agree with your view, dont partake in said debate, it's that simple..

I started a thread Fog Lamps As Led DRL Substiutes, Discuss Initially the consensus was to do so was breaking the law, I didn't sulk and go home, I offered up reasoned logic and you know what ........... I've converted my Fog Lamp housings to accommodate legally conformng DRL's had them in since early April cost me circa £27 and had no trouble with the Police,

I started a thread on Water In Plug Ports Issue which has to date attracted just short off 27,000 hits, incidently generating alot of hits for and hence helping to raise this forums web profile.

Threads I or anybody else put up and are seen by members of this forum to be an irrelvence in their eyes, well they wont attract input and as a concequence they wither and die.......Thats how forums work, and big boys live with it.

So think on Ian, to be safe your best sticking to "Fluffy" threads with content such as ...was that you I saw on the

A361 going West near South Molton ;)

Disagreeing points of view are great, it's what makes the world advance and what keeps us all from turning into a conformist North Korean nation. However having the ability to act like a reasonable person is also advantageous.

I would suggest that it appears you're the one getting all a little worked up about this...

"this is my thread, I've attracted xyz views/posts etc" ...wonderful...

I never mentioned irrelevance to the topic at hand, I mentioned the fact that you're dragging one disagreement across to another thread... Remaining on topic is not always the easiest thing on a forum - one person asks about headlights, another replies with headlight AND foglight answers, the third person asks the second about foglight info... now the thread's initial direction is changed and further posts could be 'off topic'... It's not a big deal..

Bringing one dispute over one topic - which was not actually a big a dispute as you have now appeared to make it, isn't exactly a mature step, which is quite rich considering you're mentioning rattles being thrown and balls being taken home, dare I mention location digs? Whether you've had a blurred moment and have slipped from your usual charismatic self or whether you've just found I've rubbed you the wrong way, I don't know.

As I've said, I have no particular problem with yourself, hence why I view certain interesting threads you've written. It does appear that you have a problem with me which is why you cannot resist continuing what was a minor differing of views. I suggest instead of continuing this petty dispute and cluttering up your thread you either let it go; as I'd thought it already was, or continue it in a private message.

Gentlemen, I suggest this ends now before any toys get broken.

Debate is fine, goading is not.

Please shake hands and call a truce. 8)

no i think theres plenty of mileage in it yet.lol.

You got my half of the truce..

I just had an unmarked BMW up my rear on the motorway for 15 miles, I feel I should upload the rear cam footage to YouTube or something >_>

I ain't got a problem with you Ian, and incidently I never looked on it as a dispute, but you obviously did, mentioned it three times I see in your last post.

And yet again telling me where to post what to post. Look I back my input up with facts, CPS definitions regards traffic violations, statistical data regards cost to the economay, costs in pain and death. And I mentioned a few of threads I started and what traffic they had generated. It would appear facts seem to get you all rattled, have you ever thought? Hang on I think I'm possibly alergic to facts

Well like I said if you offer up opinions on public forums about what somebody else opined, they are more than likely going to come back at you with an opinion in regard to your opinion of their opinion, thats how it works kiddo.

Now I didn't think I was being rude, it was not my intention to allienate you, maybe I've just been exposed to a more masculine enviroment than you have.

Now I could only sign up to a Truce Ian if I had been involved in a war, which I havent been. I'm possibly guilty of getting the better of you in a debate. I'm possilby guilty, no definately guilty of pulling your leg, winding you up.....it's a bloke thing

I wont be PM ing you, but if you want to have a "final spleen venting" at my expence then go a head, I'll offer up no retort.

Oh I've just had another idea for a general disscusion topic, should be plenty of participation I reckon, so keep your eyes peeled, hope you join in, or you could put it on ignore [along with me] up to you really.

Theme will be: Whats your Barmy Health and Safety Experience. In the personal experience that I'll start the thread off with, I'm at my usual irritating best [ you'll love it Ian ] when confronting those I perceive to have totally lost the plot.

Anyway no more off topic posts on this thread, sorry lads keep those Tailgating stories coming.

Go one dave, lets see it, "Jeebo" James gave me access to a You Tube channel [ no data on you appears] . Don't feel I can pass access on to somebody else without his consent. but you send him a PM mate.

Post the Video up, TROLL the Police, make their lives a misery, if it was you they'd have a bit of fun with you, do unto others n all.

OT, best way to learn them, on single carriage way in each direction, what I do is slow down a little....when they go to overtake drop it into 2nd and gun it and keep them next to you in the other lane, when oncoming traffic gets that bit closer they'll go into a right panic lol works every time and watching the hand gestures going on behind you is pretty lulz worthy, unsure if OT because it mentions legally, unsure if Illegal if staying within speed limit, but all in good fun,

Plus if they crash it's lesson learned, the other drives gets compo + the possibility of being rid of a car they might dislike ( possibly a lot of pain too )

Note to self, don't try and overtake Mattew, hang on a sec.....ST2, tear note up it ain't going to happen.

Haha yeah it's fine catch share the details on pm without issue I just don't want to publicise them on the open Web, I have no objections to sharing them otherwise.

As for the debate it's been lively,! But for the purposes of peace amongst all men, let's leave it there and return to the topic at hand of tailgaters and the sufference we can cause them :-D

Gentlemen, I suggest this ends now before any toys get broken.

Debate is fine, goading is not.

Please shake hands and call a truce. 8)

theres only 1 way to settle this............................................................

FIGHT. :innocent:

I was gonna suggest handbags at dawn...
